Your prom story reminded me of my prom story; I had a huge crush on this girl for YEARS and it never went anywhere because she didn’t feel the same way, but she’d tell me I was pretty so that’s how I managed to keep liking her. Well, junior year she asks me to prom a week beforehand, so I scramble to get a dress and watch a million makeup tutorials, and while at prom, she clicks with this guy I was on the archery team with and didn’t like. He was one of the “devil’s advocate” types who argued for the sake of arguing. So the next day I’m bummed because of it, and it’s Mother’s Day. My mom died when I was a kid so that day has always been hard. She comes over and cheers me up, but right as she’s leaving she asks me to get his number from the archery coach for her. Totally devastated, but the crush ended instantly!

*"I guess we're doing that now!"* Yup. That was my highschool friend group. We were all kinda kooky to begin with, but somehow I got roped into their definitely not semi-serious plan for World Domination. They had a political party pamphlet and everything. I did a photoshoot for them where they shook hands like politicians and such, as the founding moment of their empire. Aside from that, it was uneventful. Day-to-day life was not exactly rosy, as a "pretty much antisocial", religious, demisexual, "teacher's pet"-like student. I had two very good friends (the "world domination" guys mentioned above), three good friends, and a handful of acquaintances. The rest ignored me, and I was all too happy to ignore them back. I had more positive interaction with the year below me than with my own peers. Which btw includes, a canoe tour, an impromptu barbershop quartet rendition of "Barbara Ann" on the schoolyard, and some other weird crazy stories. There was this one gay dude who got it into his head that since I was religious I automatically had to hate gays as well (which is false, but hey, who cares?) and spent quite a while harassing me and trying to make me uncomfortable because of my faith. That was a bad year. Or two. It kinda flows together after a while. It was kind of ironic - and very telling of my entire school life I guess - that the most success in a social setting I ever had in school was on stage at our graduation party, and it was a 10 minute math skit. To be fair, it was very funny, and I got all of the couple hundred people in the room laughing their asses off. One guy in my graduation class I had spoken to less than a handful of times for the past three years prior was so blown away that he came up to me afterwards and told me, his mother had connections to the industry, if I wanted to become a comedian she could make it happen. It was kinda flattering, but at the same time it felt kind of like a, "I never knew you could be funny!" Yeah. Highschool. Good times :D

I was a computer geek back then, with a happy D&D group and the like, dating wasn't something that happened till WELL after school but, for some bizarre reason I had friends who kept coming to soundboard off me for relationship advice... never was sure why)

If it makes any high schoolers feel any better, when I was asked to prom it took me about three literal seconds to figure out that was what she had said. Then I half-fainted against the bank of lockers I was leaning on and sank to the ground. She, being trained in first-aid, panicked and calmed me down as I sat in a daze on the floor. I'd like to think I'd handle it better now after five years of university ... but I'm genuinely not sure.

High school is literally, in the formal definition of the word literally, nothing. You really are still just a child at the time, and so much of who you are isn't there yet. I didn't really become "me" until I turned 20, and that was the night I was working at my third job as a DSS respite worker, half way through college, I found myself holding an abandoned 3 year old in a children's shelter and I, a scrawny nerd from a country town, was singing lullabies to him to get him to sleep. That was when I really started living.

I wore this denim vest and chains on my pants, and walked around like I was 6'5 even though I weighed 80-90 lbs xD For some odd reason, though it made people think I was really.... Tough? Unapproachable, I guess, but I was actually really outgoing and got along with everyone.

I was homeschooled K-12 and most of it was great and I was involved in tons of activities. But then my last couple years of high school we had moved to the edge of nowhere too, and then my mom got really sick. I didn’t have my drivers license. Bad combination of events. So I had to basically teach myself alone, and then I got sick too with a different chronic illness than my mom had. (We have the worst genes.) So yeah, last couple of years weren’t great but nothing anyone could have done about it. Glad I was there all the time to help take care of my mom. Now she takes care of me, since she’s gotten better and I’ve gotten worse....

I also wanted to thank you for showing me how to apply body paint quickly and easily! Every video I've seen uses beauty blenders or airbrushing. I don't have an airbrush so I used beauty blenders for the longest time and it took FOREVER!! After watching your video yesterday, I sat my husband down to do some paint and makeup testing and it took less than 5 minutes to get a very opaque layer of body paint on his skin. It would normally take me like 20 minutes to do that with a beauty blender. 😭 So I wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping me improve my skills!!

That's a really sad story about highschool crushes. I kinda relate. I had one girlfriend in highschool, she was... mean to say the least. I'm not gonna bore everyone with the stories, but she made me feel like I needed her to be "acceptable" in highschool, and I caught her cheating on me. The worst thing that happened to me in highschool was I got into an accident where I broke my ankle and fractured my leg. I got addicted to my pain medication and then went through rehab for pain meds. Then went to physical therapy so I could walk again. Apart from those, I had a pretty mundane highschool life. Wasn't a stellar student, but I tried, and passed.

I can soo relate to your high school experience and it breaks my heart all over again to see someone so amazing such as yourself have such an experience as I had. One of my buddies girlfriends did however dance with me at prom but I think that just ended up being more awkward than it was worth looking back on it. At least now you're only blue on the outside? 💙💙

This WAS an enjoyable video! Something relaxing and, for lack of a better term, "comfy" about watching you put on your makeup/costume and listen to you talk about stuff. Definitely think you should do this style of video again. Here's my high school story: Mid 90's group of video game playing nerds, socially ostracized and ridiculed by our classmates. Some kids on the football team started calling us the "Goof Troop". They tried to physically harass us, but, uh, it didn't work out quite they way they had hoped. So then they just stuck to verbal abuse. We would get to school early in the morning and play MtG in the cafeteria. Most of us did get involved with the school's drama club, but as stage crew rather than performers. Those weren't the best times, but there are some good memories mixed in there. Unfortunately, as we grew up outside of school and had chances to learn more about ourselves and have different experiences, we no longer had much in common and parted ways. It's weird when your best friend all throughout your years of school turns out to have vastly different morals than you, but I'm sure most adults have similar experiences and can relate. Anyway, thanks for this.

I dont know what I just watched. I expected cute peppy happy go lucky artist go through the process of goth jester make up, instead I got Ginny opening up her soul about highschool, atractiveness, and talking shit about teachers... I feel this is an art piece and it made it all the more enjoying.

I'm a 50 year old woman, I mean this kind of in a maternal, wish I could hug your teenage self and give her a "boost" -- but so glad you've blossomed in your young womanhood with your confidence. You really ARE lovely inside and OUT, too!! I'm twice your age, but relate 😂

Hardcore relate to the high school story. I was definitely in a similar boat. Hey but it helped lead us in directions that could make us happy in ways that we couldn't be happy back then. Life can be infuriating like that.

"rehearsing" I totally get that XD I have never been musically inclined, and thus never had a band, but when I'm trying to get something done, either I have to do it on my own (at which point I can actually be very productive), or there has to be someone there forcing me to work on it cause whenever there are people around I get so excited that all I want to do is interact with them because I grew up with the assumption that no one liked me, so knowing someone likes me, even now, is just mind-blowing

Even the bit about the high school reunion, I was nodding along like yeah girl, same. Definitely feel like we would have been in the same circles xD Also, good job on the Jester look! My school days were not as bad as most. I was never bullied in high school (I actually was one of the larger/more powerful (physically) in my school) when I walked down a hallway, people would actually move aside.. but this caused some issues. I was dreadfully shy, and the girls were sort of intimidated (a girl confessed this years later..after she was married of course) by me. Despite the fact I would not hurt a fly.. I have two stories..both very similar. I had two older brothers (both popular especially with the girls). I finally got enough courage I was going to ask my crush out .. my first older brother got to the first one first..knew i was interested AND was going to ask them out.. but asked them out anyhow..same happened with the second person I had found the courage to approach...this time by my other older brother. Both had dated dozens of girls.. I am now 45 and have had THREE ((all of which approached me)) 'girlfriends'.. So.. not as bad as some of the horror stories I've heard.

Looks great. My H.S. story was about me being grounded for every special event. Oh when I was 13 yrs old, I started to hang out with my older sister after school with her drama class. In fact I gotten to do the stage hand, changing the sets, & props.. When I got to H.S. I stayed away from drama class & club.. Silly me. Though I believe that breaking up with an 18 yr old kinda kept me from starting drama class my freshman year. The Drama got to me.

I transferred to a completely different high school for my freshman year because the kids I had gone to school with from kindergarten to 6th grade were horrible and I was relentlessly bullied. So I made the smart (lol) decision to transfer to a new district where I knew no one and had no friends. I eventually made friends with the "weird" kids and one of my friends introduced me to a boy she knew. I developed a huge crush on him and found out she also had a crush on him. We got into a huge fight and our friendship ended and she turned all of the people I had made friends with against me. The boy and I talked for a bit but we eventually lost touch, sadly. I transferred back to my old district for 10th and 11th grade, then back to my freshman year school for half of my senior year and then back to home district. The girl and I made up and became super close for a long time and it was great! I eventually got into contact with the boy again in 2011 and we started dating a few months later and now we're getting married in 15 days! So while high school was literal hell, I met my future husband because of it so it wasn't all that bad I guess!
