Well, done. But language is not the real obstacle. (Even though everyone tells you so). The real obstacle is HR's tendency to evaluate you NOT on your contribution to the company - but on how well you fit into an imaginary "ISO-norm". If you are "different", then the standard application process is your enemy.

Chris Pyak Yes I understand the different concept. I’m not a big fan of online applications as they leave too much room for judgement on HR’s part. Once I apply, I have to try and connect with an employee at a company as Naveen did so, correct? Do you have a webinar coming up where you discuss any tips? I’ll look at your website too. Regarding learning German, I also wanted to pursue it so I could experience the culture. Its fun and challenging to learn. Vielen Danke!!

Hi Chris. I am little bit in peculiar situation. I've came to Germany to pursue an English taught Master of eng degree in IT. I graduated from my home country in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. During my bachelor study I found love in embedded system. From then it became my hobby. But after graduation I got a job in a captive power plant as an electrical maintenance engineer and worked there for 3.5 years. The plant based on gas burned generator. After coming here in Germany, I've found that my experience is obsolete. Besides my classmates who are from software background getting job easily without knowing a single German word. Even they got working student job within two months after coming here. That makes me frustrated. Now I am about to start my thesis and I don't know in which domain I should go. Once my senior told me that, go towards the domain in which Germans are not expert like software development. In my master course I covered some topics as follows: Switching & Routing, ML and Robotics. Should I change my career to ML, Robotics? or stick to my passion embedded system. And what about industrial automation sector? Can I get a job there without German? Please advice!!

Dear Suaib, Thank you for sharing your story. There is no short answer to your question. This is something that we should discuss in more detail. If you like - book a coaching session here: holvi.com/shop/chrispyak/section/coaching/ One thought: Demand changes quickly. If I would be in your situation I would go with an area that I enjoy and see myself working in for a long time. Then I would look which parts of this area are the most marketable. There is more to it - but it needs more explaining than I can do on KZread.

Hello Chris, I recently graduated from university with a marketing degree but specifically interested in digital marketing. I know that you said that the marketing field is almost impossible to find a job in Germany, but does digital marketing help at all. What advice do you have to someone in marketing looking to find a job in Germany? What other fields can I look at? I met my boyfriend in college and he happened to be German, so we are planning to move in together, so I'd like to make my job search a bit quicker.

Hello Prajakta, finding a job in consulting is very difficult if you don't speak C1 level German. I argue about this for years with German consultancies. They all insist that their clients are Mittelstand and "don't speak English". A bullshit claim in my opinion since half of them live from export. My advice: Focus on internal positions where you work with colleagues, but not external clients. I’m a bilingual professional (English and Spanish) with a masters degree in International Marketing Management from a university in the UK. As you mentioned, landing a job in Marketing with no German language skills is tough if not unfeasible. But, what if the candidate speaks English and Spanish to a fluent/native level? Shall I consider switching my career path? Please further advice will be appreciated. Note: I’m willing to take super intensive German language courses if needed but just want to explore my options.

I’m a UK citizen, 24 years old, graduated in late 2019 with a BSc in Automotive Technology and Management but have no industry experience in engineering and haven’t found anything due to the latest recession in the U.K. manufacturing industry. I have actually lived in Germany for 9 months in 2017/2018, thanks to erasmus, and I would love to live and work there permanently. I really got along well with the people there and I’m still in contact with my german buddies 3 years on! How likely do you think this is for me? I’d love to hear back from you :)

Meaning: Most HR will throw you out without reading your CV. But you HAVE something valuable to offer to employers. If you are willing to invest time, empathy and analytical skills for about 6 months: Then you can find a job in Germany by reaching out to the hiring managers directly. Dear Ava, It is great that you dare to move to a foreign country, even a foreign continent. This shows how brave you are. If you want to find a good job in Germany, then you need to find a combination of different skills that make you unique. English alone will not get you there, especially as a teacher. You would compete with thousands of British people who live in Germany. Also: To be a teacher in school, you need to be certified by the German state that you live in. Even German teachers cannot simply move from one German state to another and work as teachers, unfortunately. So, my advice for you is this: Find a combination of valuable abilities that make you unique. Then look for employers who need exactly this combination of skills. I wish you all the best. Chris

Hello Mah, education is highly regulated by German states. It's near impossible to work as a teacher in the regular schoolsystem. You could look to become a tutor in the corporate world, teaching business English. But you face huge competiton from lots of British people doing the same.

@@samuelankome5999 I would recommend you shift into areas where you work more as an consultant etc. Because there are very few jobs that require international law and the competition there is very high. You need to find a market niche where you can apply for at least 5 jobs per week for a period of up to six months. (So, roughly 100 jobs in total). Because you need a certain amount of feedback in order to understand where your market niche is. I can help with that and also introduce you to hiring managers behind jobs that YOU have chosen - but my next round of coaching starts literally tomorrow (1. February) - and there is only one seat left: www.immigrantspirit.com/miracle

Do you already know if your University degree is recognised "as of equal value" in Germany? You can check that in the Anabin database. More infos here: www.jobseekervisagermany.de I think you have good chances to work in Germany, if you avoid HR and talk to the managers directly. I was in a foreign languages class, I studied English, French, and Spanish besides to other subject materials. I opted for English as a major in my bachelor's and in master's I chose applied linguistics and went to Poland as an Erasmus trainee. Now I'm learning German I want to work in Germany and I also want to volunteer in schools. I want to teach English to kids and learn German there. I'm also interested in finding English speaking jobs in Germany until I reach the wanted level in German and maybe I will apply for Ausbildung. I hope you read my comment and give me your opinion about what can I work there? Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely yours,

Dear Berghout, Thank you for reaching out to me. English language alone is not enough to find a job in Germany. We have plenty of people who speak English. My advice: You need to find something that only you can provide. Because only then will employers be willing to take up the trouble of the visa process. I am sorry I don't have more positive news for you.
