    If I don't send any money to India, but I have my investment already in India from my earlier job, in that case also do I need an NRE Or NRO account. We are already in UK for 4 years. I don't have any NRE account but we file our tax as an NRI, they never asked for any NRE account. So I am confused. Neither I am bringing any money nor I m sending till now in my case

    Correction@3:45 kzread.info/dash/bejne/an2isJN-ZsvVh8o.htmlsi=yN35uZhknWly7-AV&t=225 : You have to pay tax on India income including NRE FD interest earning in the same tax year under foreign income even if the money is NEVER repatriated back to the UK. You can claim double taxation relaxation (sparing tax credit) capping the income tax to 15% for the first 10 years even if you a higher rate 40/45% upper tax brackets. If you don't you risk heavy income tax penalties in future (which you may want to avoid. FD in india @ 7% is not attractive in the current scenario with UK banks offering 5% interest on easy access saving accounts (eg. Tandem), and year on year depreciation of INR of 3-4% vs GBP and USD... this is not certain but you also lose 2% on sending money back and forth from UK to India.

    Hey, You didn't mention NPS. How is NPS as an option for long term investment?

  • @HumTumInEngland

    @HumTumInEngland

    Жыл бұрын

    With NPS National Pension Scheme, Money in this account is locked until retirement. If you retire before the age of 60 you may take 20% of the investment as cash (tax-free). The remaining 80% is invested into an annuity (an investment that pays you a fixed yearly amount). If retiring after 60, then a minimum of 40% must be annuitized and the balance can be withdrawn lump sum (tax-free).
