Get a GRIP! Add TEXTURE to 3D models in SculptGL

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I demonstrate a method of adding textures to 3D models using SculptGL. Added texture can help take your models to the next level, especially for 3D prints. Although wireframe modelling like SculptGL can be tricky at first, once you get the hang of it, you can quickly customise simple models in a way that would not be possible with solid CAD modelling.

Excellent video, thanks! Random texture in Fusion360 is basically impossible and slicer "fuzzy skin" doesn't allow enough control. So this is just what I need. 👍🏼

Great video! This is something that I have wondered about for ages, knowing how to sculpt a little bit in Blender, but not in such a clean and orderly fashion. Thanks for sharing!

Hmm. I wonder if I can do this to add "grip" tape to aircraft wings.

Awesome. Thanks for the bulge hack to increase mesh density in only one area.

HI threre. thanks for the info. i have a very newbie question. can i import a model into SculptGL and edit it? if i get something on Thingiverse, can i make changes to it in SculptGL? so not just adding texture, but change the shape of it?

You certainly can! That said, I have noticed on a few occasions a loss of detail when importing files in sculptGL. If this does happen to your upload, it might be worth reducing the size of the file first in Meshmixer (I have a separate video on how to do this).

How can I do this in blender, Sculpt GL doesn't work

  • @Kotaztrafee

Gonna give SculptGL a try. So far looks like will work better than the likes of Blender to texture. Let's find out. So I made it as far as masking when my masking went over the line. I can't figure out how to erase...? Also, now I see that as I mask my half pipe/U shaped model, the masking goes through the model to the inside. Will this be a problem? I do not want the same texture on the inside. OH no my model looks like swiss cheese now. LOL

Yes give it a go, much shallower learning curve! I haven’t used it for a while so can’t remember the commands off the top of my head, imagine holding shift while dragging will unmask sections.

@@CallumColes Nope, tried that and tried holding control. But the big problem is my very curvy object turns to swiss cheese when I increase the resolution and it doesn't come back by lowering the resolution.
