Get 2 Know former pro wrestler Lex Luger

It's time to Get 2 Know former pro wrestler Lex Luger.
Scott Levin sits down with wrestling legend Lex Luger.
Even though the title of our series is “Get 2 Know” this is more of a “catching up with” conversation, because let’s face it, millions of people know Lex Luger! At 61 years old, Lex Luger reminisces about growing up in WNY, his love of sports, his professional wrestling career, having a “full-life but an empty heart,” finding a higher power and his love of Buffalo!

    Putting aside his own physical challenges to come back home and take care of his mom shows how tough Lex Luger is in real life.

    I remember when I worked at a carwash in the Atlanta area in 91-92. Lex came in and I ended up the one cleaning his vehicle. He got a lot of attention from everyone who were wrestling fans, but he pretty much stays down to earth. I said, "How's it going Lex Total Package?" He he said he was well and asked the same then reached out to shake my hand. Not a whole lot of celebs reach to shake your hand first, and that's if they even say hello back. Hes a great guy and I'm glad to see he's doing good in his retirement.

    Edgar Garcia in 2013 I blew 2 discs within 2 millimeters from severing my spinal cord in 2 different places the c5c6 and c6c7 vertabre’s somehow it didn’t seem to faze me at the time I actually waited for 3 weeks before I went to the emergency room because of the constant pain in my neck and right arm. I was only allowed to see a nurse practitioner who looked at my X-ray and there was nothing wrong and I was just getting old and I was just a couple of months shy of my 41st birthday. I had to wait several more weeks before I could see a primary doctor who grabbed my trap muscles like Dr Spoke from Star Trek did and she told me that I have a severe neck injury and set me up for mri. I asked her how she could tell and she said that she could feel the constant spasms and said it was noropathy, saying that I had a severe injury and my body was trying to take control and circumvent and take pressure off the major injury by putting pressure on body parts that were not injured. After seeing the mri she said I need a double neck fusion surgery and I asked if that was the only thing that would help and if I could avoid it and she said yes but I would lose the use of both arms within 8 years. I had the surgery set up for 3 months later at Barnes Jewish hospital in St Louis but my surgeon moved and it took another Year before I actually had it meanwhile doing more and more damage to my neck. The head surgeon who I met for the first time the morning of the surgery did it and less than 24 hours later I was released and sent home with no neck brace, I was supposed to be in a hard brace for 4 to 6 months. The day after I had to go to the local hospital because I had pneumonia. 2 weeks later I rolled over in bed and it sounded like a .22 going off in my head so I called Barnes every day for 3 weeks straight before someone would talk to me and said that I needed to go to the hospital ASAP and I said no I should have went 3 weeks ago. They did a cat scan and the head er dc who was in his late 60’s or early 70’a came in dam near in tears telling me he didn’t know how to tell me that he knew I just had double fusion surgery and I blew out another disc and needed another surgery. Of course Barnes denied that I blew out another disc even though the hospital, my primary dr and my pain management specialist all said I did. I went through 3 months of physical therapy and the first day the lady said my back muscles were as tight as a 90 or 95 year old mans. I did 3 months of that torture before they canceled it saying that it was only hurting me and not helping. But by the grace of GOD I can still walk drive play with my dogs and nieces and nephews and only deal with pain that I manage with prescription meds. But by all means I should be a paraplegic with my injuries and I live a somewhat normal life and I owe that to the good lord because I am nothing without him. Thank you for your support and GOD BLESS

Lex was my favorite wrestler growing up and he had a spinal injury at the c-6 level in 2008...in 2013 I broke my neck blowing out my c5c6 and c6c7 discs almost all the way through my spinal cord and was within 2 centimeters in 2 places of being paralyzed but luckily and by the grace of GOD I am able to walk and drive around, I’m still in pain but I’m on meds that help me through it. I was lucky enough to shake Lex’s hand on the way to the ring and would love to be able to contact him. God bless you Lex and God bless the world with this covid-19 pandemic going on. @@blizzrd6578 The problem with that is the Bible is real, the Gospel is real and its the only salvation for you, me, him and everyone on earth. In fact as someone who has studied many different religions the Bible is the only one that is NOT based on 100% blind faith. Why do I say that? Because of Bible prophecy. The entire changeover from a Jewish religion to Christianity was laid out centuries before Jesus was ever born in the OT. The change from its being a most NON Jewish religion for 2000 years, the total destruction of Israel by Rome in 70 AD, the almost 2000 year Jewish Diaspora into all nations, even the rebirth of Modern Israel in 1948 was all foretold in massive detail centuries before Jesus was born or any of it happened.

  • @Orange6921

    @Orange6921

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@blizzrd6578 There was a time when the Bible could not be proven any more than any other religion because the oldest copies we had were only about 900 years old. But when the dead Sea scrolls and other finds of the OT happened, it confirmed the words and books were written long before Jesus or Christianity or the events surrounding Israel ever came to pass. We now have full copies of the OT that are well over 2000 years old, some around 2500 years old. We know now the words were not written AFTER those historical events, they were written centuries before they ever came to pass. So if you are interested in the truth and FACTS, this is incredibly important. I was a non believer for almost 40 years, I was shocked to learn all these facts.

    My all-time favorite wrestler. I was so disappointed Flair never droppef the title to him but Hogan made up for that by giving him the title on the 100th nitro in one of my favorite night ever as a sports fan. I know Lex had the nerve impingement that paralyzed him over 10 years ago but I thought he made a great comeback from that. Now to see him in this wheelchair deteriorating unable to use his right hand from what I can tell is mind-blowing. All the best to Lex I'm glad he has a great attitude and found. All of our faith is being tested now with this unbelievable pandemic.

    Great redemptive story. It sounds like it all happened too quickly for Lex. Sometimes, when you don't feel like you've earned the success, or the journey is an automatic one; you can make bad decisions because it's difficult to appreciate the success. You can have what most people only dream of, but if you haven't developed the ability to appreciate what you have, then you could develop self-destructive tendencies because sub-consciously (or consciously) you feel like you don't deserve it... that's what Lex Luger story sounds like.
