I had gd for two of my pregnancy’s and the first was diet control the second time I had to use insulin at night my numbers were high in the morning and with the insulin once at bedtime I had good numbers in the morning, I was so sad to use insulin no matter what I ate I couldn’t get good numbers, but after using it it helped me and that’s all that matters. I did learn how to eat healthier, I lost like 30 pounds in my pregnancy! That was the good part I was eating super healthy, my baby is now 6 months and he is perfectly healthy and I’m so blessed to have him❤️ it’s not easy to have gd wile pregnant you can’t eat cake and cookies like before but it’s all for the baby I did everything with him in mind, I took my glucose test and it went away, I’m trying to loose more weight to be healthier. I remember watching your video you had wile I was pregnant. I know this will help a mom to be going through this now, Listen to your doctor and follow the diet it will be fine.

When I had GD (diagnosed at 30 weeks). The most helpful advice I received was to accompany carbs with protein and fat. Also, I found that I was MUCH more sensitive to carbs that came from wheat and rice. My glucose was higher than normal for much longer than it is with other carbs. If I avoided wheat and rice I was able to have a lot of carb wiggle room. As long as I avoided wheat and rice I could have a small dessert ( a piece of chocolate or flan!) a few times a week with no problem. Having GD was a blessing in disguise because it taught me portion control and how to make healthier choices. It’s so interesting how guidelines differ, I was told to check my blood sugar 2 hours after my meal ends Also, you go girl for having csection number 5; I had c section 2 in April and I was unbelievably MISERABLE and in so so SO much pain. But... I’ll do it again for another baby lol 🥰

Your past videos about GD helped me the most with my diagnosis. It was my first pregnancy and the notice shocked me, I was overwelmed, a lot of emotions came at that moment and your videos gave encouragement to go through my pregnancy and GD. You explain very simple but at the same time, give a lot of information. Thanks Heather for this videos.

Thank you so much Heather for this informative video and more than that, thank you for doing your research and identifying the different types; type1, type2 and gestational. They are all COMPLETELY different conditions and as a parent of a type1 child, it really helps us when people don’t group type1 and type2 together. I gave a little cheer when you said type2 and not just “diabetes.” People wouldn’t believe the problems that come about from people not understanding the difference. I am keeping you and baby in my prayers and my heart goes out to you, especially with the carb counting, it’s tough (although I’m now a carb counting robot, I can literally eyeball the carbs on a plate now.) Keep strong and keep this informative content coming especially for new mums who, are generally experiencing this all for the first time. God bless and stay safe 💙🙏 xxx

Thanks for sharing. I couldn't do this without videos like yours. I feel overwhelmed but also angry. 7th pregnancy and never been diagnosed before. My diet over the years has changed to way healthier, less sugar and carbs and all whole grains. I feel like I couldn't handle the glucose drink because I'm not used to that much sugar anymore. Yet my doctor automatically accused me of being a junk food junkie. And I barely failed the test. My numbers are good, back down to the 100s after an hour. It's the stupid morning number that are screwing my up, always around 95+.

The log sheets I was given by the hospital only track carbs, so I will definitely be getting your chart so I can easily see what works best for me as far as keeping my numbers low. Thanks for the video it was very helpful!

If you are having trouble with your numbers I suggest checking out the book Real Food with Gestational Diabetes by Lily Nichols. I can't eat anywhere near the amount of carbs in this video and the high numbers some OBs suggest aren't necessary. The most helpful advice I've received is eat to the meter and focus on nutrient density.

Hello! Thank you for sharing your life and your journey with gestational diabetes. My daughter-in-law was diagnosed with gestational diabetes a couple weeks ago and the week after being diagnosed and before her appointment with the nutritionist she really concentrated on keeping her carbs around 30 and most of them coming from non starchy veggies. She felt and looked great. However after meeting with her nutritionist she was told she needed to increase her carbs and that the non starchy ones don’t really count as part of the over all number. Her numbers are not as even and she’s not feeling as good. Sometimes she’s eating even when she’s not super hungry in order to stay on the plan. To top things off her cousin who had it was told differently from her nutritionist which I know you said that was the case with all your experiences. She’s stressed and worried about not consuming enough carbs for the development of a healthy baby. Any suggestions?! Thanks!

This is my experience too. This is my second pregnancy with GD and while it was difficult last time, not nearly as hard as this time. Following the 45 carbs per meal and 30 at snack is wrecking my numbers. I'm in my 2nd trimester and already on insulin because I can't keep my numbers down eating 45 carbs a meal. On top of that, I have definitely eaten while not hungry or eaten more than I needed in order to stay on plan. I see my doc tomorrow and hope to discuss this with him. I hope your DIL finds her balance.

Hi, my question is are we screwed from the beginningof the day If our waking fasting numbers are high? Does that throw off the rest of the day even if you're eating right with your carbs? I'm failing miserably on day 3 of dieting I am following the carb count recommendations to a tee but I am feeling like a. I am eating way too many carbs b. My numbers are always out of range c. My dietician will be contacting me shortly but I'm so worried about my high numbers in the mean time. I am supposed to get 45-60g of carb for lunch and dinner.

Although my morning blood sugar is not that high, around 99, if I can't get it under 90 when I wake up, they will put me on meds. I am now trying the Premier shake, half of it before I sleep and I have gotten my morning sugar to 95. Just keep logging your numbers and what you eat and talk to the doctors. Hopefully they can help you. Its been 4 weeks since I was diagnosed, and I am still testing things out on what to do and eat before bedtime. Congratulations on your pregnancy. WE CAN DO IT!!!! ❤

Im asian and we eat rice 3x a day 😅. Im at 25 weeks +, recent urine test jad glucose in it so im planned for a glucose test next week. I hope i dont have gdm. I do have risk factors ie family history, advanced maternal age. I used to excercise regularly before and during the 1st trimester so didnt habe any issues w weight. Unfortunately as i entered the 2nd trimester, i developed a rare condition ie anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome on the right side of my abdomen from an abdominal surgery 10 yrs ago. The pain can be excruciaring and whn its not, there is a constant dull ache. Ive gone for nerve block and glucose hydrodissection but the pain controp is not very good. Due to the pain, ive not been able to do my usual walk and yoga. Im.mosly sitting ot in bed because movement makes it worse. I take sweet things to nake me feel better and with the inactivity, im worried that my body will develop gdm. So now im trying to cut down on carbs in my main meal and snack on jicama. Still wondering how i can do some workout with all this pain.

Please also check your vitamin D3 level. This is WAY more important than any nutritional choices you make. (unless of course you drink Coca Cola and eat junk food all day, which I do not assume) If you are deficient in D3 and you get gestational diabetes, it also means your baby won't get enough D3 either and has a much higher risk of becoming a diabetic, among other potential risks.

Please make sure you supplement vitamin D3. Only by looking at your profile picture, I can already guarantee you, you are deficient. Your body basically reduces melanin production to brighten your skin colour, exactly when it's D3 deficient. Normally, you get D3 from the sun, with UV-B radiation on your skin. If your skin looks pale, it's a clear sign your body needs more D3.

We have no real peace here in this world, but we can have peace, it comes from Jesus and accepting his free gift of salvation. In Mark 16:15 he commands us too "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature". John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Please call upon Jesus today.

Now that I'm on the insulin I wake up every morning feeling good and I've notice when my fasting numbers are good it's easier to manage the rest of the day. I tried avoiding carbs and eating only a 1/4 of carbs recommended it still did not work and I felt like a failure which is why I don't like comments that say "just reduce your carbs" or "eat more protein."
