Germany's largest campsite even has its own memorial site
Surrounded by the arms of the Lower Rhine lies Germany's largest family campsite: two thousand caravans populate the greenery of Grav Island. Groundsman Klaus Bresser looks after the thirty-five kilometres of paths, two hundred kilometres of hedges and the 9,000 permanent campers who have settled there. These campers are a close-knit society - even beyond death. All deceased Grav islanders are commemorated on plaques.
