Exactly! Sure, he went all-in on cooking videos at one point, but what made them fun, beloved and watched by millions was Boris himself and his personality and skills as an entrepreneur.

Man boris is fantastic. I just finished cooking spaghetti for the first time in 3.5 years. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy cooking until I discovered LifeOfBoris. It's no overexageration to say that boris's videos have helped me through one of the hardest points in my life. The first thing I cooked during the slump (after years of not cooking anything) was one of his "how to survive on nothing" recipes. Thank you Boris.

As a foreigner who learned by doing (in this case speaking) the german language and living in Vorarlberg, Austria, the subtitles were very helpful. Hochdeutsch is hard for me :) But indeed Boris did a great job!

It's impressive that you spoke so well. As a German I can tell that it took a very long time to pronounce this well. People who live in Germany for years pronounce words much worse. Speaking like this in Germany you would be seen as an enthusiastic person. Teachers often speak like that.

I think the good pronunciation is because of the languages Boris already knows. Russian has lots of German loanwords, so does Estonian (which I presume Boris knows at least a bit of). Anecdote: recently in the comments of a channel where the British host knows Russian fairly well we tried to get him to pronounce German words correctly by spelling them out in Cyrillic.

@@Asptuber I must disagree, typically slavs havs a very destined way of talking. Basically an own tone. Boris didn't have that. Neither did he mess up the typical "r" and "ch" sound.

@@generalmisery Good point, I didn't think of that (probably because I seldom hear it). I think I have a vague idea of what you mean, but I hadn't associated it so much with Russian, more Balkan and/or Polish (though these are very different to each other). To my ears Boris' German sounded very typical of how Finns or Estonians often sound. And from my background (Finland, Swedish as first language) I have to think really hard to even know what could be messed up in "r" or "ch" - for "r" you can either use a typical aggressive Finnish type "r", or - if you have a speech impediment like me - pretend that you are emulating a more southern variety - LOL. The "ch" is a bit trickier for us, but mentally it is something like an "explosive h". Very close to what gets transcribed from Russian into English as "kh". I think the thing that made this whole comment section go nuts for the amaaazing pronunciation is prosody (roughly the melody of the sentences). Germans are probably very attuned to this. And Boris' prosody even in English often sounds vaguely German. (My German is far from fluent, but Germans usually believe that it is. I blame just hearing enough German as a child.)

As a born Austrian living in Germany, i have to say that your pronunciation is top notch. Its rare to see such good pronunciation from a non-native speaker! It's also an Indo-European language so I imagine there would be some universally recognized sounds and words in there i.e. पिता sounds like the latin Pater which in German became Vater and in English became Father
