Hmmm. This ship looks very different in your hands. Played 5 games to complete the mission that came with it, and mothballed it. It steers like a brick, and needs to be played like a cruiser. Very reminiscent of the Soviet line to me. I’m not a huge fan of the original German line after T-61, but play well in them. Guess I’ll break out my Soviet play book and try again. Haven’t picked up any new French cruisers yet. Thanks for the review. Love your work!

i had not planned to bother with this line but then i got Z-31 out of a bundle and now she is my favorite ship, 25k HP on a DD at T6 is nuts and the AP absolutely crushes cruisers and BBs, 10/10 line

I love the Elbing for that very reason. Once I got the Z-31 I built it as full gun AP focus and it just shreds. Sitting at distance smacking iowas as they sail by is hilarious

Got all 4 new ships and so far after around 10 matches with each I like the z31 the most 👍

Yeah the old JG Wentworth is not bad, not bad

Got the t6 love it and yes also got the t6 french hvy i was surprised with the fun factor, with the long reload you have to to reposition( good thing) also shes fast and with the speed boost jaaaa winggg your zipping along..so ya im pleased.

25mm. Most DDs can pen 20mm.

Those things seems really nice, mmore interesting than the lesser Dunkerque we got for french cruisers (yeah i'm not a fan of those design wise, plain stupid to get the blueprint of a ship all higher in tier than said ship) but anyway i can't wait to get my hands on both these lines still The urge you got to shoot at the Atago at end was fun to see tho xD

I’ve found the HE useful. 12% fire chance is serviceable/adequate, light a couple fires, under ten km, AP time 🤷🏻‍♂️. Schultz has improved pen angles and pen, 6/7 only have angles

I been loving z31 i got over 3100 xp on my last 3 games. There very slow but the guns are spicy. And when bbs shoot they over lead because they expect u to be fast lol

In blitz you use AP until dds go stupid close, at which point you will overpen them. They aren’t really destroyers, more scout cruiser especially Elbing. Btw the German battlecruiser and alt destroyer torps move at 50 knots. Not the slowest because black is sailing 47 knot torps but still. I have no plans for this line but who knows.

I get better concealment on elbing with lutjens than with bey so I'll probably play this line like an agile cruiser

Interesting take

Derka, with respect, you and other CC are the ones making this thing a cruiser with your builds. You are the issue. I have played around with loads of builds and quite frankly the guns need zero help, yet you are all pushing up the damage/range at ref expense of concealment. I’ve settled on Blue with sims and bey, because it is a destroyer. 39knts without speed boast, 4.4s rudder 30k hp, and retaining crazy Ap, while more importantly retaining 5.6km concealment(average at the tier). Boom, a destroyer, not robbing your team of a DD slot. Can leap straight in the cap with out without support knowing you will win that fight and move off to the next cap/dd at pace. Less ego boast with slightly less range damage against BB, but win more games. Please do consider looking at my build stats above and yours and considering is it the ship or the captain wasting a DD slot.

Mahan fits me, even the odd 9 klm torps work well for me. but I cant control Black, there is something I dont get right on that DD LOL

my concern with this line, much like the soviet dd's, is that they take a dd slot yet cant do the dd role of spotting, capping contesting. Thats why I dislike the soviet dd's as they play like small cruisers. Most dont get that and will be screaming at you to cap etc. It takes a patient play style for sure.

I will say, though, that they're at least more capable of doing typical DD things than the Soviet DDs because their concealment is actually not too bad (pretty much on par with Friesland). They do have even worse manoeuvrability than the Red DDs, though. So still not ideal for it but they are kinda better in a pinch. I have Z31 myself and with my setup on Bey, I can theoretically get her detectability down to 5.2km with Swirzki as an inspiration. Not bad for a long range gunboat.

Indeed, but if you really want fun and slap run mortar. Detection range goes up to 6kms, but the damage output is amazing. Just means you’re best suited to patrolling caps rather than pushing in to them, especially if there are a lot of DD’s per side.

Still hit more torps in this compared to shiratsuyu. Shiratsuyu is the one destroyer i can never land torps on so i just play it as a gunboat

Isn't the new line the one where Elbing belongs? I like the line. Better than just playing stealth torp ship 😮‍💨

Yeah. Elbing would be the tree topper for the line. But weegee decided to make it a t8. Kinda weird tier change like somers or plymouth

Not sure I would go with your build, I don’t think the guns need any help, having played loads of back to back games with bey or blue at helm, 8 settled on blue. 5.6 concealment, 5.2s reload 39knts before boost. Thinks and animal. I one on one an amagi in it in open water

Giving up your detectability for 10ish % reload is a mistake, you’re gonna shred anything that is comparable regardless. You won’t beat anyone to cap but you’re just slow enough to get there after they’ve smoked and then you smoke them 😂 The French cruisers are actually very similar to these destroyers in the fact that if you play them as mini battleships you’ll have fun, but if you play them like a cruiser you’re going to have issues. They’re made for going after battle cruisers and they’re good at that. Don’t be a scout and don’t try to play peekaboo with islands.

I've heard the French cruisers are only good if you can flank and get broadsides and are pretty useless otherwise.

What will be the difference between Felix Schultz and Elbing? On PC Elbing is the tier X and FS is tier IX but they’re both gonna be tier VIII here

Schultz has better turret traverse, more range, faster reload, better HE, and speed boost. Elbingbong has more health, longer duration smokes, better torps, and slightly better AP performance I believe.

@@blackpriest14 I’m kinda getting them to work now, but I had to use Scharnhorst as the commander. Playing them with a destroyer commander wasn’t working for me. Even with a commander I set up just for Elbing. Scharnhorst seems to give a workable play style.
