What is Gastroesophageal reflux and disease
Acid reflux happens when content from your stomach move back up Into your esophagus. This action is also called acid regurgitation or gastroesophageal reflux. And having this once in a while is common; but if you are experiencing this more than twice a week/ very often then you might have GERD
Symptoms of GERD
GERD symptoms
The main symptom of GERD is acid reflux. Acid reflux can cause an uncomfortable burning feeling in your chest, which can move up into your neck and throat. This feeling is often known as heartburn.
So If you have acid reflux, you might develop a sour or bitter taste at the back of your mouth. It might also cause the regurgitation of food or liquid from your stomach into your mouth.
Some other symptoms of GERD are:
nausea
chest pain
pain when swallowing
difficulty swallowing
chronic cough
a hoarse voice
bad breath
GERD treatment:
To manage and reduce the symptoms of GERD, your doctor might advise you to make certain lifestyle changes, like:
-maintaining a moderate weight
-quitting smoking,
-avoiding big, heavy meals in the evening
-waiting a few hours after eating to lie down
-Keeping the head elevated during the sleep and not lying down immediately after meal
Medicines to treat acid reflux:
1. Antacids
Antacids have been used for centuries in the treatment of patients with dyspepsia and acid reflux disease. It is typically used for occasional and mild symptoms of acid reflux and GERD.
The principal function of antacid is to reduce gastric acidity. A single dose of antacid taken 1 hour after a meal can effectively neutralise gastric acid for upto 2 hrs.
2. H2 receptor blockers
H2 blockers like cimetidine, ranitidine, famotidine and nizatidine suppress acid secretion.
If you are experiencing heartburn or dyspepsia fewer than 3 times per week , then you can take antacids or H2 blockers. H2 blockers are best for night time acid secretion. And they are extremely safe medicines.
3. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)
PPIs like Omeprazole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole, rabeprazole also lower the amount of acid your stomach makes. The best time to take PPIs is approximately 1 hour before meal. Normal recommended dose is once daily. It relieves GERD related symptoms in 85-90% of the patients. In some people twice daily dose might be needed.
4. Prokinetic Agents:
Prokinetics help to strengthen the lower oesophageal sphincter and prevent acid reflux. The most widely studied agents include bethanechol, metoclopramide, domperidone and cisapride.
It is used as a single agent or in combination therapy
5. Foam barriers
Foam barriers are tablets that are composed of an antacid and a foaming agent. As soon as the tablet reaches to the stomach it disintegrates and turns into foam that floats on top of the liquid contents of the stomach. It is a kind of physical barrier which prevents the reflux of liquid.
The tablets are best taken after meals.
Surgery for GERD:
Doctor might recommend surgeries like:
Fundoplication (during which the top of your stomach is sewn around your esophagus), and
Bariatric surgery (usually recommended when a doctor has concluded that your GERD may be exacerbated by too much excess weight).

Here are the tips that are helping me from 2 months; 1. Don't take antacids as they give you relief temporarily, but the problem persists. Remember you have to make your stomach acid strong, so it closes the valve and acid reflux stops. You can take 1 spoon of Apple cider vinegar in water or you can do this through intermittent fasting. (If you are having reflux, it's because of low stomach acid, which keeps LES open, so reflux occurs. There are so many causes of it, mainly including H. Pylori). 2. If you are feeling sore throat, gargle with salt water once for three days .... 3. If you are feeling lump in throat, or kind of food stuck in throat after eating, it's 90 percent of anxiety caused by stomach issues. So, try to manage stress and anxiety. 4. If you are facing esophagitis and gastritis due to H. Pylori then, eat spiceless foods. Add more leafy green vegetables like cucumber and cabbage etc. in your diet. Take more probiotics (yogurt) as these all things naturally eradicate and fight with bacteria. 5. Avoid tea with caffeine.. you can take green tea and it's good for your gut healing. 6. Must do 20 minutes walk after eating. (If you are facing symptoms of GERD) Remember you are not alone, we can fight through this. ✨

The most common cause of acid reflux is food that's acidic or high in fat-like citrus fruits, tomatoes, onions, chocolate, coffee, cheese, and peppermint. Spicy foods or large meals can also be the root of distress. Other sources of heartburn include aspirin or ibuprofen, as well as some sedatives and blood pressure medications.

It might be a mechanical reason. What’s the reason why that sphincter isn’t closing? The esophagus passes through the respiratory diaphragm. That diaphragm is attached to the ribs. If those ribs are stuck and putting some line of force on that diaphragm the force can also be put on the sphincter. Not allowing it to close.

Very good presentation. ❤️ But GERD is because of low acid in stomach which causes opening of esophageal sphincter. Low acid is strong enough to burn the esophagus. So no need to try to lower the acid with medicines that she says here. Rather increasing acid content of stomach by apple cider vinegar & lemon & control of infection if any will help. Higher acid will prevent the esophagus sphincter from opening on lying position. All other information is correct. Thanks

This does nothing to address the shortness of breath. Acid reflux sounds fairly benign but the symptoms are horrific. Elevation of BP, the struggle to breathe, the feeling that you have a Giant tumor in your chest squeezing your heart and vital organs. Health professionals do not take this disease seriously enough.

I was actually told by several doctors (an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and a gastroenterologist) that I have Gerd, but I don’t experience a chronic cough, heartburn, or regurgitation. I burp when I eat certain foods, such as fried foods, or acidic/carbonated drinks, but other than that, I don’t have any other symptoms of acid reflux. I went into the ear, nose and throat specialist, because I had an extremely hoarse voice that got really bad after I sang. I also heard vibration coming from my throat, mostly on one side, the right side. They told me that it was acid reflux, and I don’t believe them. People have told me that they thought it was a vocal cord problem, since it got worse when I sang, and there have been times I literally lost my voice and was out of whisper for days. I also have several people that have been diagnosed with acid reflux that have told me it doesn’t sound like I have it so I would just like people thoughts on it.

@@MajesticBred just looked it up. I wouldn’t say I have “excessive mucus”per say. In fact, it depends on how much/well I sleep. I snore, so I don’t know if that has something to go with it, but the less hours I sleep, I tend to feel there is something in there only in the morning, but not really in the day unless I eat dairy (which is a food prone to cause mucus in the throat regardless of other heath conditions). In addition, I don’t really have a chronic sore throat. When I went to the throat specialist, he said, “it’s red back there.” When my doctor looked, she gave me an antibiotic. The throat pain/redness has since went away, but arose another somewhat strange symptom; I now only truly have a somewhat “cough” when sing. Almost immediately after I start, no matter if I am properly breathing or not, I will cough. I also don’t really have any symptoms of asthma or trouble breathing other than the somewhat strange cough when I sing. They also put me on omeprazole. I’ve been taking it for abt a month/month and a half and still no improvement

Dont do anything guys. First thing we all must do is measure your acidity in your stomach. If high, take PPI, if low take ACV. Secondly, reduce your meals to once per day for 2 weeks with intermittent fasting. Remember, acid jumps up when stomach is filled not when empty. Thirdly mild walk after food helps. Fourthly make sure you try a diet that suits you. Low carb and high protein one does it for me. Consider carnivore diet for a month. Try all these for a month and thank me later 😊

I hope this will help you too, you can try any other brand of enzyme tablet + pudin hara.

Medicine is not the solution . Medicine is temporary.. Once the medicine doses is over GERD/ACID REFLUX happens again. I too have this problem. I stopped taking medicines by simply changing my lifestyle . Here are the few things I follow and changed my lifestyle: Don't: 1. Avoid eating non-veg foods 2. Avoid drinking tea/cofee/fresh milk/juice/sugar/sweets 3. Avoid fast food 4. Avoid packaging food 5. Avoid drinking cold or hot water 6. Avoid cold food 7. Avoid tomato/lemon/oraganges/pineapple 8. Avoid fried foods/oil 9. Avoid srress 10. Avoid raw vegetables 11. Avoid eating chili and spicy foods 12. Don't use phones/tv/ or any electronic gadgets after 7 Pm 13. Avoid doing hard work 14. Avoid gym Do's 1. Wake up Early morning 2. Sleep between 8:00 pm -9:00 pm 3. Drink 2 cups of water in the morning ( lukewarm) 4. Dont forget to eat morning breakfast ( it could be oats boil or porridge) 5. Take your meal after 2-3 hours of breakfast ( make sure you eat only boiled vegetables which is cooked properly) 6. Drink a glass of water every 5-10 minutes before food and 5-10 minutes after food 7. Maintain diet routine weekly. 8. To get protein eat only one piece of fish in a week 9. Eat 2-3 pieces of egg in a week 10. Make sure you do light exercise like walking/ jogging after lunch or dinner 11. Read motivational books 12. I have realized I need to walk after I eat, I am avoiding types of food, eat in small portions, I am doing intermediate fast to lose weight because I have learned obesity is a good source too, and most importantly prayers help. Trigger foods Some people choose to avoid common trigger foods, such as coffee and chocolate, to alleviate GERD symptoms. However, this approach has little clinical backing, while results vary between individuals. Some common trigger foods may include: - chocolate - mint - carbonated beverages - acidic drinks, such as orange juice and coffee - caffeine - acidic foods, such as tomato sauce and citrus fruits - spicy foods - alcohol People with GERD may choose to try eliminating each food type from their diet to see if their symptoms improve. If symptoms do not improve, they can incorporate the food type back into their diet. In 2022 guidelines for diagnosing and managing GERD, the American College of Gastroenterology suggests avoiding trigger foods to help manage GERD symptoms. However, they also state that there is little evidence to support this recommendation.

You are right . I have very bad reflux issues after my hpylori treatment. For me it triggers more with fried or spicy food . But not sure . I drink tea and coffee also . I didn’t try to eliminate them . Sometimes it’s confusing. So thinking to try apple cider vinegar before meals .
