He used tactics meant for a life and death situation. He's a warrior, but pulling that shit in competitions was just disgusting. Permanently blinding someone who is competing against you is just too far. I can understand if on the street and someone pulled a gun and was threatening your life, but in a competitive situation?! Fucking horrible!

@@stylesheetra9411 because everybody is vulnerable to being eye gouged, testicle ripped, bitten or kicked in the head while unconscious at some point no matter how good you are or what style you have. If you do that against the rules they are not expecting it and cannot properly defend. You agreed to not do these moves because they can kill or maim people for life, so you have no honor at all. It's like saying I hid a knife in my shorts, pulled it out and stabbed him, but that's ok because he should have seen it coming even though I agreed to no weapons and we were wrestling. But I wanted to win so I cheated. Not to mention most the fighters in the world would be blind, as it would only ever take one mistake ever in your whole career to lose your eye. This style of fighting existed at one point and became illegal because of how many people got hurt for no reason. Even the best fighters of all time still made mistakes, it is impossible to be perfect. By your logic Silva, St Pierre should be blind because they made a single mistake in a fight. And guess what they banned eye gouges and biting from their fighting competitions too. Only Sparta allowed it, and they were eventually defeated despite being highly skilled. So much for that theory. Remembering not to gouge your opponent's eyeball is not hard. It's not an accident either you have to intentionally shove your thumb in someone's eye and apply pressure. Knowing you might blind them for life. Exactly its a sport, not a war if you cannot remember not to maim someone during a sporting contest you don't belong there. You want to play in real life and death scenarios to be a real fighter join a current war and volunteer for the front lines. There are no excuses here. alot of yous are missing the point ... he stated when in a fight it's to survive... now biting , eye gouging whatever it's a means to survive. 2nd about the broken hand all he was stating was Gracie KNEW about his hand . Implying the doctor informed gracie about it .... even shamrock and other early UFC fighters and even the commentator have said the events and situations surrounding early UFC were fishy. Stipulations changed last minute, opponent change last min , gear and so on . They are all stating it was a giant fix in the sense of favoring gracie and B. jujutsu witch at that time no one ever had seen or fought against.... especially when you bring in a bunch of guys who have fought full contact in the past and they come in thinking it's a fight a stand up fight . No one saw that wrestling / submission style coming..... notice today not one gracie is dominant in the sport anymore or anywhere..... now that people know it's not the same ..... but the mission was accomplished . Gracie jujutsu was introduced...APPEARED dominant witch in WRESTLING was ...and the Gracie's made there millions ..... we were all Mark's and we all got worked in the early days

Earlier statements made herein were out of line; true.... ( Way too drunk on fine whiskey, at the time, and take that statement back altogether...) Either way, as fucked up as such actions and tactics ever being resorted to in MMA..... ( and, yeah....they Clearly are....), it Still stands that no "coward" would even ever Actually BE fighting in the first ever UFC event...Full stop...!! That was my only actual main thing actually being pointed out.... Just to get the actual and factually accurate term for what that Actually Is, in that case....but "cowardice" cannot possibly be put on someone, from the safety of one's lounge chair, by those who wouldn't even dare dream of stepping in there for the first ever UFC event, without labelling themselves as hypocrites thereby....That's a simple Fact.... ( I very much doubt that many ( if Any!!) of those commenting would have ever had the balls to step in there at all, in the first place... Look at the definition of "cowardice" from dictionary.com: " lack of courage to face danger, opposition, difficulty, pain etc.."... As we Are speaking English here, quite clearly the one who would step into the Octagon for UFC 1 has a great deal less of that quality in their character than the many people who jump to label him as such, the vast majority of whom could never truly overcome their fears, no matter what, to be stepping in there at all...Many of them would shit just considering it in Actual Reality...Fact. ( I, for one, very much doubt that I would consider Actually, Truly stepping in there for that event...) Ruthless personalities, and fucked up actions like those referred to, in the octagon or ring, are their own thing altogether....( like "Tyson vs Holyfield", for instance..) As for fighting ability, my bet is that Gerard Gordeau would, without doubt, smash seven shades of shite out of 99.90 percent of the very same people attempting to label him as not being a skilled or good fighter, also..... Otherwise, the statements/comments can have No Real accuracy, truth, validity, or reality to them whatsoever, by default...End rant.

Because judo doesn’t emphasize the ground game they emphasize throwing. The rules of the sport only allow like 10 seconds of ground game to make progress or the refs stand you up. Most judoka only have the ground game of a blue belt or purple belt in jiujitsu that’s why Royce was so dominant

150 lbs Yuki Nakai beat this 240lbs man after he permanently destroyed Yuki Nakai right eye with a thumb gouge. This Dutchman not a good fighter. He illegally gouge out a much smaller man's eye and still he lose to the little legend Yuki Nakai. He bite the smaller 170lbs Royce Gracie's ear and still he lose. His name is forgotten by all but an obscure few in this world but the name Yuki Nakai is legendary, especially among Judokas. This dutchman couldn't even defeat a smaller man even after gouging out his eye. Whom would give their hard earned money to learn fighting from such a desperate, cowardly, loser. His size & strength advantage wasn't enough. His skills also weren't enough. So he permanently thumb gouge Yuki Nakai right eye, blinding him for life, and still it wasn't enough. Yuki Nakai defeated him and went on to fight other larger, stronger, men that same night, only losing to Rickson Gracie. That night Yuki Nakai became a 150lb legend.

Tbf thumbing the eye is not enough on its own to make you blind. He did not gouge out the eye as that would imply scooping it out of the socket. What he did do was poke the eye which damaged it and led to infection. Yuki did not get his eye treated and continued with the competition, which is why he is blinded. What Gerard did was still against the rules and deliberate, but you see people do this accidentally all the time today and people don't go blind. Part of the responsibility lies with Yuki and his camp for not taking him to the hospital tbh.
