There was another quote I’ve heard of, but I don’t know who quoted it: “To the world, you are one person. To one person, you are the world.” Carlo was the whole world to Geppetto, & the world ended for him when his beloved son died. 😭

What I absolutely love/hate about this shot is it’s not just a 3rd person camera shot of the moment before the bomb exploding in the church. It’s also the EXACT last thing Carlo would of seen. The cross, and a blue light suddenly engolfing the room. He wouldn’t even have time to register there was an explosion or noise, just a flash of light before he died. When it cuts to Jepatto, we just witnessed in his eyes the final milliseconds of life. That was it. You can hear faintly a breath/whisper as if death herself embraced Carlo right when it went off. Haunting as shit.
You mean to tell me that the kid died because these fools were too damn lazy to take their bombs home?!
@TheJabbate1
Жыл бұрын
Warplanes would often release “unnecessary weight” to get home if their fuel is low. First their unused payload then their guns and ammo. It’s a practice still used even today though it’s a last resort and they are supposed to be careful where they are releasing their payload and the bombs would be unarmed so it should just fall without detonating.

This very seen hits ESPECIALLY if you are a parent. You even notice the older teenager/young adult when he’s hammering the gravestone his eyes are closed in sympathy and empathy for the grieving father, probably thinking how could a little kid die like this. 1:36 Edit: someone in the comments told me that’s the Podesta!!! Although he helped with Carlo’s funeral, he didn’t show any sympathy for Geppetto AT ALL! If he was more like his future self at the time, the future Podesta probably would’ve given Geppetto the cold shoulder & agressivsly ordered him to stop crying at his son’s funeral, because real men don’t cry. I really don’t like that future monster! 😢

I was broken by the last thing Carlo saw. Like the blue light illuminating the crucifix wasn’t death coming down on him - it was a light to take him up 😢 (fyi I’m not of faith, but that imagery is haunting me)
@RoyJNg

Yeah, that's what the light and Christ was symbolizing at that sadly Christ would take him to Heaven. What is ironic was Christ said the same thing to the one of the people crucified too.
I remember an essay written by the late, great Maurice Sendak about seeing Disney's Pinocchio in 1940 - "If remembering that day is tinged with a confusing guilt that has something to do with the inappropriateness of feeling cheerful when a world war was hanging over our heads, then that, too, is part of the precious memory of Pinocchio. I was only a child, but I knew something dreadful was happening in the world, and that my parents were worried to death. And it seems to me that something of the quality of that terrible, anxious time is reflected in the very color and dramatic power of Pinocchio."
Can't get enough of this part 2:10 - 2:21

I am surprised that Geppetto, being an older man, was able to have a child, since it is rare that an older person like him can still have children. Because when people get older, they can no longer progress and have children.

Actually men can still father children their entire lives. It’s only women who eventually reach an age where (in the vast majority of cases) they can no longer have children. It’s just very rare, but not impossible at all.

there's also an interpretation that this is a recounting of Sebastian J Cricket of what happened based on what Geppetto has told him and since he did not know what Geppetto would have looked when he was younger, Geppetto appears that way. Also in the IRL version, they couldn't afford to make a new Geppetto puppet that would only appear for a few scenes.

It's surprising that in the Ukrainian dub they didn't censor that scene, knowing about what's happening now with the war.
