    I don't track camera footage very much. I mainly work on tv and movies, and there is not much shooting done on phones for that kind of thing. Have you tried googling for that info for your phone model? I've done that in the past for old GoPro models and once or twice for an old phone.

  • @dannybcreative

    @dannybcreative

    I track cell phone footage all the time. Google the phone you're using and which lens. Look up the FL for that lens and the sensor size for the phone you're using. I know my iPhone specs for example. Once you have this info, you can enter it into the camera tracker in Nuke, Fusion Studio and even Blender for example and you're good to go.

    Great video Sean. Thanks. I quickly tried it myself and ran into some issues where the geometry would jump away on some frames. Did you also experience this? could be the motion in the video that caused it. Didnt check yet if you can maybe select a motion model or something.

  • @seankennedy6076

    @seankennedy6076

    11 ай бұрын

    Yeah, if it jumps away like that, it's probably a tracking problem. Hopefully it's fixable with a few manually placed keyframes. I didn't see any different motion models in the options, but maybe it's buried somewhere I didn't look yet. Were you using the same footage I used?

  • @luclenders

    @luclenders

    I did use my own footage but its pretty minimal and stable footage. I did do some manual realigning and it helped.The object I tracked also has a slight slope to it. so that that brought on some new issues as well. @@seankennedy6076

    As long as the model is accurate and scaled properly, I'm sure it would work great! As for sophisticated, I'm not too sure. I don't think it would be useful for crazy and fast handheld shots.

    Nice to see a new video from you Sean ! I am not sure in your example what's make it better than a 3d track, but maybe I miss the point... Do you have a clue for that or other usecases ? BTW : It is not a criticism, I love KeenTools, and they do a wonderfull job, I am just wondering !

    It's just a different way of doing it. No point tracking. Just place some geometry, refine its position on another frame if needed, and done. Pretty simple solution, but obviously won't work on every kind of shot. It won't replace traditional matchmoving yet, it's just another option, and a very simple one.

    Good question, I haven't tried it with that kind of shot. My first reactions to using it this way was that it would be limited in the types of shots you could use it on, and that's a perfect example. Then again, maybe it's possible? Not sure.

  • @imagesh1

    Looks like a great tool and appreciate your walk-through, but there's a fundamental issue with starting from your arbitrarily scaled "wall" object that isn't based on accurate set measurements or more importantly, real world proportions; the motion track itself will be distorted to accommodate the random values you started with. This is because GeoTracker is forcing the perspective to match the geometry (not the geometry to match the perspective) and that geometry is 100% guaranteed distorted in scale compared to the actual wall. In some simple use cases this wouldn't be an issue, but in most cases it would. For instance, if there was a perfect cube shaped object in the video scene, and you attempted to model to fit the cube after the track, the cube model wouldn't be a perfect cube, it would be stretched in two dimensions to match the distorted solve.

  • @seankennedy6076

    @seankennedy6076

    11 ай бұрын

    I agree 100%. The only way around that would be to take precise measurements of the set and model it first from that information, or to use a LIDAR scan or something. There may be some ways to improve the quality of this track using more of the KeenTools options, but it's certainly no replacement for a proper camera track, at least not yet.

However, while GeoTracker is in free beta, the tracking functionality of the Core Library doesn't require a subscription. Once free beta is over, you can use it without a subscription for 15 days after the first launch with no restrictions or limitations. After that you'll need to subscribe."
