Georgia protests: violent clashes ahead of ‘Russia bill’ vote

Crowds of protestors have gathered again in the Georgian capital Tbilisi after police broke up a demonstration outside the parliament building.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
-------
The protests have brought tens of thousands of people onto the streets in an attempt to stop MPs passing a controversial 'foreign agents' law, which they say mirrors a law used by Russia's President Putin to crack down on opponents and stifle freedom of speech.

And more to the point, in what historical universe is Georgia a part of Western Europe??? We are being fed uncritical pablum here.

The law forces organisations who get most of their money from foreign sources to register, this is the same as laws in the US and across the EU. What is the problem? The only people who would be against it would be those who want to conceal the source of their funding so that they can influence Georgian politics covertly. To say this is somehow anti-democratic is absurd, it is against those who are undermining democracy.

A law that exposes foreign funding, including (Russian - how ironic) influence is being protested against and called a "Russian bill". I know Channel 4 is pretty low IQ stuff normally but this is insane level propaganda. Sadly a lot of comments seems to reflect that low IQ brainwashing.

You aren't wrong that being said, Russia wants this bill based because they can shut other influences out and keep on influencing Georgia from behind the scenes, so it's just two different flavors of imperialism
