Georgia protests: violent clashes ahead of ‘Russia bill’ vote
Crowds of protestors have gathered again in the Georgian capital Tbilisi after police broke up a demonstration outside the parliament building.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
-------
The protests have brought tens of thousands of people onto the streets in an attempt to stop MPs passing a controversial 'foreign agents' law, which they say mirrors a law used by Russia's President Putin to crack down on opponents and stifle freedom of speech.

Exactly, it makes no sense. "If the Georgian people knew how much and to who the EU is giving money, they'd become critical of the EU! So this bill must be blocked to not make the Georgian people pro Russia by becoming anti EU!" What?!
The law forces organisations who get most of their money from foreign sources to register, this is the same as laws in the US and across the EU. What is the problem? The only people who would be against it would be those who want to conceal the source of their funding so that they can influence Georgian politics covertly. @@sforza209 LOL!!..The similarity is the term, "foreign agent" and our law went into effect in 1938- refers to lobbyists, primarily. Plus, it's *not* been challenged by the People, as here. Russia's Amended Foreign Agent Law started putting people away in 2021 without Trials (!!), etc., & has impaired Free Speech & Journalism!!- (I admit I'm shocked by the Russian law & all of its minutia of disclosure requirements! For example, you have to report in Russia even if you only accept 1 gift from a foreign family member? & they Never remove you from The List-?!!).. The worst thing is that it keeps getting harsher & more chilling on Freedoms!-🙁 Go Georgia!!- ❤
2024 is looking very ugly for America.
If the EU can't stomach a country passing a law like this, I cannot help but wonder how much sovereignty the EU intends to take away from any country that joins it. While there's a good number of benefits that may accrue with EU membership, it seems overly naive to ignore the forceful attempts by the EU to push its member states to adopt a very narrow, politically correct stance on a broad array of issues.

I honestly don't understand this. "If the Georgian people knew how much money the EU is giving and to which companies/organizations/NGO's, they could become anti EU! This bill needs to be blocked because Georgian citizens would become more critical of the EU if they knew how much and to who the EU is giving money? But.. the EU are the good guys right...?
