Interesting. I would have loved to have been able to do something like this here at the Baltimore Aquarium. My condolences on your losses.

Those big tube things with the brown look like protein skimmers, ie spin the water and separate/remove the poop. Those shrimp look like mantis shrimp who have been known to break fish tanks with their claws. Hard to see exactly from my phone so correct me if wrong.
