San Diego, California - I had the incredible honor and opportunity to spend a day in the life at the World's Best Zoo in San Diego, California.
The San Diego Zoo (@SanDiegoZoo) is located in the vibrant city of San Diego, California, is a world-renowned destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Spread across 100 acres of lush, meticulously designed landscapes, this iconic zoo is home to over 3,500 animals representing more than 650 species.
With its unwavering commitment to conservation and education, the San Diego Zoo offers visitors a unique opportunity to observe and learn about diverse creatures from around the globe. From majestic elephants and playful pandas to elusive big cats and colorful birds, the zoo provides a captivating experience for all ages. With its innovative exhibits, state-of-the-art facilities, and expert staff, the San Diego Zoo continues to inspire awe, foster appreciation for wildlife, and ignite a passion for the natural world.
I had the opportunity to spend the most of my time in my "day in the life" with the amazing polar bears, elephants, hummingbirds, and giant tortoises. What a day!

    @@kingsharkoon Please name a single species that DOESN'T need conservation. Even animals of least concern are at risk due to fragmentation of their environments, which lead to quick decline in genetic diversity of populations. And THOUSANDS of animals are released into the wild every year from zoos. The problem is that people don't care about these animals. People only think of elephants and lions and tigers, but what about all the birds, reptiles, insects, amphibians, less interesting mammals and fish that are being released? Just off the top of my head I can think of the Guam rail, California condor, black-footed ferrets, Panamanian golden frogs, bongos, Galapagos tortoises, all animals that have been bred by zoos and helped reintroduce their populations and add genetic diversity to wild populations! And these are just ones I can think of! Zoos (accredited ones!) do more for conservation that any industry, company, or person in the world!!

    there are some zoos that have exhibits and areas set up like this. However, it isn't possible for all animals to be viewed in a "safari" type setup. Lions and tigers would be some of those because they are incredibly dangerous. It isn't something widely advertised but a lot of african safaris have guides with rifles for a reason.

    Watching polar bears is great for me, they are my spirit animal. They love the cold, just like me :) I'm from the Midwest and im surprised that we don't keep polar bears there because for 4-6 months out of the year, its basically a frozen tundra.

    Just imagine how many species could be saved, if you would just ditch the idea of Zoos, and invest all the Lobby’s money in conserving the actual wild habitats.

    I’ve been to the San Diego zoo and it was huge , beautiful and I enjoyed it. I wish more zoos were large like sanctuaries so the animals could stretch out and not feel trapped The big cats at Sam Diego were pacing when I went, which means stress 😢

    The sad reality is that every single living creature on this planet including us are all competing for the same resources since time began. Zoos, whether you hate them or not are going to be the only places to see some animals that once existed, and they do play a part in ensuring that the wildlife have chance to live. Cool video 👍

  • @robinweyand5327

    @robinweyand5327

    Two points about that: 1) Does the possible or even certain extinction of a species as a hole (which cannot suffer) justify the obviously appearent suffering of individual animals (which are proven to can suffer)? 2) The part Zoos play in the preservation of animal species is minimal at best. In Germany our parliament was asked this by one of the opposing parties. The ratio of animals set free to animals captured (not rescued) was 150 to over 800 and I highly doubt these numbers to be better outside of europe.

    @@robinweyand5327 Would you rather the animals just die then? Most of them can't be released back into the wild where they'll die. If they aren't born in the wild and taught by mom, they aren't going to survive in the wild. The wild is a deadly unforgiving place. It's not peaceful or safe. Would you rather the two polar bear siblings who lost their mother at 3 months old have also died not long after their mother did? They wouldn't have died peacefully either. An adult male polar bear would've eaten them alive. You'd rather that happen? Is a 3 month old life cut short by being eaten a more fulfilling life than a 20 year life in a zoo where they'll die of old age?

  • @Shoazo

    @@sirus804 I think you don't understand how horrible the life inside captivity is for the animal. A cub beating eaten by an adult, as gruesome as it sounds, is nature. A 20 year life in a prison is nothing an animal would ever want if they had a choice. And yes the zoos try to entertain the animals, but you can tell simply by watching the animals behaviour, that they are mentally ill because of the zoos.

    @@robinweyand5327 well , zoos have come a long way in keeping animals, when I was a kid the zoo near me had tigers and lions in concrete enclosures, now it’s more natural. The truth is , whenever animals and humans interact, there is always a change in behaviour by both, sometimes good and sometimes not. Some wildlife have adapted very well to human activity, you should see the bush turkeys here in Sydney, they are all over the shop as for breeding, zoos are places that are able to breed animals that are at risk at extinction. Even if the percentage is low, but it’s better than nothing. Do wildlife belong in the wild , absolutely they do, no matter how one looks at it, there are no easy solutions or quick fixes, in most countries there are a whole host of issues which impact wildlife by humans in a negative way. There things being done to combat the poaching and other environmental problems, but it’s a battle that is a constant one

    they litelarly said their mother died when they were young so the scientists tracking here saved the cubs and they had to be raised in captivity which means they cant go to the wild because they dont have the knowledge of survival, also they said that the bears can live easily in san diego even though its hotter by adjusting diet and making them build up less fat which heats them in the wild also they have cooling systems for water and enclosure
