You're right. Raising taxes on the wealthy is not the only thing that will fix the deficit. The government also needs to invest more in infrastructure, r&d, etc. to increase aggregate demand and grow the economy. When the economy grows, the tax base will grow, and that will fix the deficit. We can't cut our way to prosperity. Solely cutting spending hurts the economy.

FYI, I'm a college graduate, who majored in business. I work at a bank. Many people were turned down to file a house mortgage b/c of their poor credit score or specific income level. Whether if it was a blue or white collar occupational field in order to meet the criteria. So they could buy a home; therefore, it would help boost the US economy. Currently many people are home renters. 7.6% unemployed is flaw for '13. 10%-13% unemployed for '09-present. It'll get worst. TBC.

Actually the Bush years were the good old days...I had a much higher tax return, we had AAA credit rating, my company was able to afford to give me good health insurance, gas was under 2 dollars before he left and the military was more respected and acknowledged...NOW, my husband lost his job, I have NO health insurance, and this year I have received such a low tax return I was basically crying...the dark days are now and from what I hear we're in for another recession.

I don't agree with what he stands for and the party that he is from, but I respect his decision to not criticize our current president.

You seem to be confusing the deficit and the debt, two completely different things. Deficits and surpluses describe the federal budget, and we borrow money as debt to finance a deficit. From 1998-2001, we had budget surpluses, which Clinton used to pay down the debt. Bush turned the surplus into record deficits, thus doubling the national debt. As for the recovery, unemployment has been going down ever since the stimulus, and there would be more growth if not for the GOP blocking Obama's plans.

Well if you really knew about macroeconomics, you would know that the economy always returns to equilibrium in the long run, so it will not get worse no matter what. What proof have you that 7.6% is a flaw?

Excuse me, but Europe is suffering today because of its austerity policy, which cuts government spending drastically. It's having such a terrible effect, people are protesting on the streets. It's not socialism if a government actually spends money to help society. Govt. spending is 20% of the U.S. economy. During the 40s, 50s, 60, the good old days, that percentage was much higher. Back then, the top marginal tax rate was 90%.
