George Thorogood 1979 live broadcast EXCELLENT!
Музыка
The George/WEBN tape has been carefully preserved all these years, almost like I knew one day there'd be all this. With such amazing audio quality and intimacy, it may very well be the best early-ish George live recording. After recommending the band seek a commercial release, and then waiting years not seeing anybody beat me to uploading it, I finally had to share. Forced to piracy by these dire circumstances! It's possible the masters burned up in the Big Four Building fire of 1987..... but, 38 years ago in Cincinnati, Lonesome George let it fly! January 23, 1979. Brilliant from all sides-- the band's hot, a stellar setlist, the DJ's pro, the production's snappy, and the crowd is LOVING IT. Thank you George, Destroyers, WEBN 102.7, and 5th Floor Studio.

Living in Cincinnati for the last 15 years, this is a great find. George is a true blues rocker and fantastic to hear his early work. Great quality.
George at his at absolute best, simply amazing sound. That version of Manhattan Slide is to die for,
Thanks for posting. What a great snapshot in time. Pisses me off when people give him the short shrift. He was keeping this kind of music alive while the Stones were doing Emotional Rescue. He kept the flame of Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker alive, back when the others that were influenced by them forgot about them. Keeping it simple isn't always the easiest thing to do over the course of 40+ years. GT never strayed from the flame and proudly kept the flame alive. I listen to them first couple Rounder records and his live shows whenever I get the blues. Listen to the live Boston '82 show. Tell me what band would want to follow them after that show? If George made a penny off each beer that was drunk during one of his shows he'd be a billionaire. If this music doesn't make you wanna pop an oat soda, what would?

@@thewhiteelephant I’m sure that there’s stuff out there, but I haven’t heard anything good from the Still Life tour. The album, the audio from Let’s Spend The Night Together. That film was my intro to the Stones and I wasn’t impressed. It took a friend from college and his copy of Hot Rocks to set things straight.

Yes I recorded it as well..only to have someone borrow it and never return it :( THEN to have ALL those reel to reel masters from those 5th Floor Concerts burn up in the fire in 1987...depressing!! There were soo many : George Thorogood 1979 , Dixie Dregs 1978, Robin Trower 1974, Loggins And Messina 1972, Shooting Star 1981, NightRanger 1983, Rick Derringer 1984. Those are the few I remember

Ditto. I was 14 when I recorded this directly off the radio, onto cassette. Stolen from my car around 1983. My son was playing GT in my car last weekend and I told him about this concert. Glad I found it.
Saw him at Hollywood Casino in Ohio about two years ago, and he was just as excellent all these years later as he is in this recording. Best show they ever had there!!
there's only one lonesome George!!!!!! 🔥👍😎👏
I saw them in 1981 (?) on their "50 states in 50 days" tour and the energy of George and the band was fantastic. What a great concert.
Lonesome George, been his fan since the start. Thanks for posting! 👍🔥
Wow! Just found this posting. Pretty sure I engineered this session. What a flashback!

I mixed 3 of Georges shows at Toads Place for WPLR-FM 99.1 What a great performer, I think it was the 50/50 tour he did 3 sets, we only broadcast the 3rd so he ran a dance contest during the the 2nd set, he was great. I'll give you a url to a 1980 show here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qGh-tbWMeMLSpKg.html&start_radio=1
incredible quality, thank you so much for uploading this !! :)
Just started listening to the show and fantastic so far... there is a track 22 minutes in that he plays during Madison Blues in the early 80's.... That is the best .. thank you for sharing. Cheers

Great show! The 5th floor radio concert series was awesome. Does anyone happen to have Taj Mahal's concert? Mine was stolen years ago and I'd give anything to hear it again.
Hola jefe,me complace escucharlo,gracias.Saludos.
This is a great live recordng.I have this on a cassette that I recorded off the air when the concert was broadcast live. I came across it about ten years ago and the quality was still good so transferred it to CD. I was trying to pin down the year. Thanks!

This is probably the best recording of George and the Destroyers you will hear...unless you saw them from the start. George is right, he preforms on a 125, and nobody does it better then he does. Not everyone can be 6"3 and hit the ball 500 feet out of the ball park....c'est la vie..
