I've known that fiddle all my life, but never the name of the man who wielded it. Thanks!
When this song came out I was working in a small bar in downtown Amarillo a young guy came in with his saddle and rigging and asked if I would put it in a little place we kept liquor in that he would be back for it. This kid hitchhiked to Amarillo for the rodeo . Nice young man. He came back and got his stuff . I always think of him when I hear this song.

The sad truth is that you are watching one of the last of his kind. True country singer. Not pop, not rock, not rap....but country! There isn't anymore real country on the radio. I think Greorge should start his own label and promote real country sounding talent. Signed, some Mexican from Texas.

What an awsome song sung by a real pro.
I don't know why, but every time I hear this song, my eyes well up in tears. I'm not a rodeo cowboy or clown, I never was one nor do I have any connection with the rodeo business . Like I said, I don't know why but maybe it's because the song and lyrics are pure and simple. It's just George's singing, a small band, back-up singers and the fiddle playing. No autotuning, computerized or synthesized gimmicks to cover up horrible singing. To me, George's singing and the fiddle is what made this song and I hope this song will las even after all of us are gone.
George's voice ages like wine.

I've always said that if you're not wearing a hat and singing with a "drawl" you ain't singing country. This is why this man epitomizes country music. All the flashy lights, feathered hair and "badonkadonks" are just not country. Those are things that Katy Perry or someone like that does. I heard a quote from Ray Charles at one point where he basically said that he liked country music because it always told a story. I think that's what's missing from a lot of todays music in general but it's really devastating to country in my opinion. The story is the very soul of a country song, and the reason why it evokes so many emotions in us as listeners.

This post and the one immediately below, about goose bumps, says it all for me; nothing more to add. (I like Terry Stafford's version well enough, but with the lonesome fiddle, George's will never, ever be equaled.)
That's why this man is the king of country music...this was recorded live, in an old wood frame honky tonk, and still sounds every bit as good as an edited studio version. He's the last of a dying breed.

@@vigierandprsrule I extremely disagree lol George strait and auto tune? That's laughable. I grew up on 80s and 90s country. I won't be able to explain the theory of relatively or figure out a calculous equation but I know my country. I got every album strait released except for his newest one he put out this year. I can tell you for a fact he has never used auto tune. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even know what auto tune is. His first album was released in 1981 before the first song with auto tune was even published and he sounds the same now as then. The only difference is he sounds older. Which is expected since his first album called Strait Country was released in 1981 when he was 29 years old. He's 67 now and still sounds the same. His live performance sounds the same as on the album if not better depending on personal taste. I would literally bet my life George strait has never used auto tune and there's a good chance he doesn't even know what that shit is. He's old fashioned, sings in an old fashioned style, and got where he is today the old fashioned way - with raw talent. Now the new country of today I can't speak for because I listen to very little of it because most of it is garbage and lacks talent but don't try to tell me one of the most talented singers of all time uses fucking auto tune. That's a fucking insult for real...

Best money I ever spent for a concert was to see George Strait(King of the Cowboys) I do hope I can see him one last time.
My GOD! He sings it better in his 60’s than he did in his 30’s. GREAT song. Go KING👍
