George Osborne: A profile of the man behind the Budget - BBC Newsnight

For some people George Osborne represents everything that's unhealthy about modern politics. He's rich, privileged and never had a proper job outside Westminster. He's also, say his critics, overly fond of minutely strategising the political embarrassment of his enemies. But to his fans he's responsible for many of this government's proudest achievements and masterminded the Conservatives' election winning strategy. On Wednesday 16th March he will deliver his eighth budget, which if the EU referendum goes against him could prove to be his last. So what do we know about George Osborne? David Grossman has this assessment.

Please acknowledge that the fulfilment of his own personal success comes at the expense of the standard of living for the working and lower middle classes. You must agree it is jarring to celebrate someone's private political achievements when the result of those achievements include food banks, fewer disability benefits, an obsession with economic growth that will one day extinguish our ecosystem. There is almost no indication in this video that any decision he has made has been in the interest of someone else.

''...an obsession with economic growth that will one day extinguish our ecosystem.'' This. And on and on it continues with the Tories still in power.

Am I the only one who thinks George Osbourne is a very cleaver man! ? I love HS2! Keynesian Economics! Investing in the infrastructure of our nation. Most of our railways were built by the Victorians! While Japan and China have bullet trains we still have Northern Rickerty Trains! Very clever man and an admirer of Thatcher! But knew that Thatchersism and Monetarism was no over!
