I thought it was an okay show that just got canceled after one season I didn't know it had a second season years later

As a kid, I loved this show. As an adult...I think you know how this goes.

I forgot this existed, and I wish it stayed that way.

the 2007 reboot of George Of The Jungle was my introduction to the series when I was younger, and I didn’t know that it was originally a cartoon from the 60’s until my mom showed me years later

Something I find weird about Season 2 is that some of the plots can get pretty disturbing. Like the episode where Magnolia (named Ursula in Season 1) eats a bunch of sentient worm creatures.

The strange thing about this mess is its fractured identity. Becouse the original and the reboot were so distant a whole slew of kids grew up with the 2007 as their first ( and likely only ) experience with the franchise. Then when the "2nd season" came out ( which really should've use an altered title to indicate a diffrent continuity ) the kids who grew up with 2007 saw THAT one as the "altered" version despite it being more faithfull to the original. All and all this mess has been a very entertaining learning experiance. i doubt this franchise will ever get a version that can please *everyone* now. This is why accurate reboots are important people. It can permanently muddle its identity.

The main point of the original show's joke was that George was the strong imposing man, but was also an idiot. This new show misses the joke by making him look like an idiot while also being an idiot. So fo course, this new version wasn't gonna be any good.

If the show was called Jungle Pete and all the characters' names were changed, people would see the pet elephant acting like a dog as a reference to George of the Jungle and possibly find it a little endearing. "This show was clearly inspired by George of the Jungle, but I'm glad they didn't give it the same name because none of the characters act like the original and the tone is way off."

According to an old article that I read awhile back, they made the reboot this way because they thought aging down the characters and making the humor less sophisticated would appeal more to todays kids. You know what’s even harder for me to swallow? The fact that Jay Ward’s daughter approved of these changes.

I’m not joking at all. She’s actually credited as an executive producer and according to the article I got this information from, she was perfectly okay with this in-name only remake.

I remember I used to like this show as a kid but thinking about it now, it’s nothing like the original George of the jungle show, you can change any of the characters and even the setting in this thing and nothing would change and good god the second season tried way too hard to emulate on how the original show was done.

One of the funniest things about the original George as a character is he can't even recognize the love of his life if he encounters her in a place where he's not expecting her (outside the home, basically) and thinks he's talking to a completely different person, whom he presumes to be male and refers to as "Fella" - hence "Fella and Ursula stay in step" in the theme song when he's suffering from double vision after some acute blunt trauma. Adding Magnolia to the cast is a severe case of missing the joke. That and parodies like George of the Jungle only work if the original they're riffing off of (Tarzan, in this case) is culturally relevant at the time. Which as of about twenty years ago, Tarzan very much isn't.

Just noticed this channel a few days ago. It's cool that you're making more reviews, since I watched your content since 2014. Nice perspective on this show. I used to watch the first season as a kid, and while I didn't get into Season 2, I will give it credit for their attempt to be more like the original series. Keep up the new content, man.

My issue with the rebooted season within the reboot, is that it got rid of the established tone of the previous season and made it feel inconsistent on purpose. As someone who watched the George of the Jungle Movie (the one with Brendan Fraser, not the botched sequel), and was somewhat interested in the first season of the reboot, with apathy towards the two segments from the original that were unnecessary, given the original show's short life-span, the second season got rid of everything that was established in the previous season. George has Muscles (which I wouldn't mind if they did that to begin with) Ursula's dad is now the bad guy, and now the Jungle Girl (Magnolia) and Explorer Girl (Ursula) got their names switched. I was too attached to the Explorer Girl being Ursula because of the movie showing that, given that George of the Jungle is suppose to be a parody of Tarzan; So I never understand why people were peeved over it. I mean, yes, Magnolia was suppose to be filling in for Fella from the original, given that the original purposefully made it confusing as to who Fella or Ursula is, by using the same design. And yes, I'm well aware of Ape's personality from the previous two iterations, and I can understand the frustration on it. But again, the rebooted season didn't help, because of how much of a major shift it tone they made it. Anyways, I wouldn't mind if the show had half and half; one story about living life, and the other involving saving the world... it's too bad the Second Season botched it. And by the way, MM, two people dislike your video for saying "Season 2 is better", and I'm one of them!

@@robbiewalker2831 Okay, so the major critisism is that...it's inconsistent with the thing that was originally inconsistent? I get that it should have been labled as its own show instead of as "Season 2", but that is what is it - an issue with how it is labled. If someone tells me they are going to give me a pizza and then I get a hamburger, then I'm going to be mad at the person, but I am not going to say the hamburger is objectively garbage.

Wow you learned something every I thought this 2007 cartoon was based off the Brendan Fraiser movie and second I didn’t even knew it was a reboot of the cartoon

I remember when Cartoon Network amped THE HELL out of this show A LOT I was sick of hearing that theme song whenever Cartoon Network promotes this show And I know that Cartoon Network does this a lot because they did the exact same thing with the cartoon movie firebreather (does anyone remember that?)

Ah yes, the Fried Dynamite era of Cartoon Network. They also had a weird way of killing cartoon by airing them during school hours (10:00am - 2:30pm). The only reason I know Sidekicks and Grojband existed is because I was home sick one day and saw them in the menus bar.

What's even worse was that the show aired right after fucking chowder of all shows like cmon!! And then flapjack would come on right after. So you were literally forced to watch a piece of shit in order to get to the rest of the good stuff. It's like if someone made a really good tasty burger but then decided to ruin it by putting a piece of goat shit in the middle of it...

2:06 hold it right there! I’m willing to call GOTJ 2007 a guilty pleasure of my childhood but the SMBSS is a beloved Mario gem and so is “The Mario!”

My favorite Jay Ward creation is Dudley Do-Right, which also got a live action adaptation with Brendan Frasier. Highly recommend that movie, it's so bad it's good.

I found the movie overall disappointing and generic, not even worthy of a so bad it's good. It was supposedly made because someone said "Hey! The narrator of Dudley Do-Right sounds like the narrator of George of the Jungle." I don't know if that's true or not, but the Dudley Do-Right movie tries WAAAAAY too hard to be like the GOTJ movie, right down to having a former Python in the cast. Brendan did the best he could, and Alfred Molina was the only one in the cast who knew what the cartoons were about. Though I still find the line "A grown man with an extensive Pokemon collection," the only real laugh in the movie. And remember, that came out in 1999, so that line actually became prophetic.

@@mightyfilm to each their own. I have never seen George of the Jungle and I genuinely enjoy the Dudley Do-Right movie. It's objectively terrible, don't get me wrong, but it's very self aware and actually has some interesting commentary on heroes and villains have changed in media.

I could see not seeing the GOTJ movies giving you a better appreciation for Dudley's film. Dudley tries so hard to be George. It wants to be George. It Single White Females George really hard. And that's the problem with the movie. It tries too hard to be another movie rather than being its own. It's obviously a thing because Universal wanted a Jay Ward Cinematic universe that they'd never be able to achieve. Now, I don't entirely dislike the movie, I just think they should have pushed it more like a Naked Gun film. Which is what the actual WORST Rocky and Bullwinkle film did. Do NOT subject yourself to the horrors of "Boris and Natasha." I caught half of it on "Laff TV" (digital TV channel, if you wonder) and it was...painful. The humor was nonexistent, the June Foray cameo felt forced and pathetic instead of cute, and ...oh... Rocky and Bullwinkle ARE in the movie... as humans. Because budget.

Fun fact: George is played by Lee Tockar aka Qubee from the good sports gang

I am happy this video exists. I hate hate HATE this show with a passion. Whenever someone whined about how the PPG 2016 was the worst reboot ever, I scoffed in their faces and said "George of the Jungle '07." You essentially took the words I had back then out of my mouth. What is the point of name recognition when the closest reference the target audience would get is the theatrically released and DTV movies? And even then, Tarzan wasn't the beloved classic it once was, and the target audience would only know it from the Disney movie. Everything they could get wrong in the cartoon they got REALLY wrong. The movie basically reinvented the premise, sure, but they kept the charm, humor, and spirit of the original cartoons. Oh. And the showrunners did NOT take criticism. Sure, artists can be defensive. Every project is someone's baby. But their response was essentially "of course it's for kids, you freaking neck bearded man children! Get a life!" WOW! That said, hearing the second season features a villain named "Dr. Chicago" perked this Jay Ward fanboy's ears up. Dr. Chicago being a recurring villain (though he only recurred twice) from the original cartoon.

Not so much with Inspector Gadget or Underdog. With the George of the Jungle movie, things just naturally came into place and they managed to keep the spirit and humor of the original. Of course, when it comes to this series, even if you called it "The Misadventures of Tarzan's dumber Younger Brother" it still wouldn't be that much of an improvement. I don't think the series stands on its own with such generic humor and writing. Same reason I hated My Gym Partner is a Monkey. Generic, lame overused jokes, nothing special.

The show was the very definition of trying too hard. I tried watching multiple times, but I never found anything special or compelling enough to get even a small amount of enjoyment.

Well George of the jungle had more advanced animation than Rocky and Bullwinkle because it was done in House at jay ward Productions

I think you misunderstood the original George of the Jungle The cartoon follows the same structure (albeit abridgely) as Rocky and Bullwinkle, as the show had 2 other cartoons Tom Slick (a semi-spoof of Speed Racer) and Super Chicken (Jay Ward's screeching spoof of the then campy Superhero craze started by Adam West's Batman) Each episode had 1 George story, 1 Tom Slick episode and 1 Super Chicken episode Now about Ursula (the lady in the original cartoon), the joke in the original cartoon is the lady is seen as 2 people [Fella AND Ursula] - read the original lyrics! The reboot not only failed to keep the spirit of the original alive in tone but by excluding Tom Slick and Super Chicken or make new cartoons that are added in spirit of the two - it killed the reboot outright the best Jay Ward reboot is The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show as it fleshed out the two leads While Mr. Peabody can go out of character once in a while (while performed wonderfully by SNL alumni, Chris Parnell) - The characters work well on eachother

Honestly, George worked better without the Tom Slick and Super Chicken Segments. The only reason Rocky and Bullwinkle worked with having multiple segments is that Rocky and Bullwinkle's segments are actually story arcs, leaving more room to catch your breath from the action, while enjoying other segments like Aesop and Son/Fractured Fairy Tales, Bullwinkle's Corner/Mister Know-it-All, and Dudley Do-Right/Peabody's Improbable History (I put slashes on each of the two segments, because the selection is random). George doesn't need Tom Slick and Super Chicken if it means having less variety or making 2/3 of your show look less enjoyable. Can't say the same for George's Second Season from the Reboot, which is a reboot within a reboot, and is actually worse than before in terms of consistency.

Personally I think that it was a good thing that they left out Super Chicken and Tom Slick. Not because I don't like them, quite the opposite they were always my favorite parts especially SC; I'm saying that because judging from how they handled George it looks like those 2 dodged a bullet.

I remember when I first heard about this series... it was from the live-action movie that came between the tv shows and I used that as a reference for the newer tv series. It was very confusing since a lot of stuff was different between them. Come to think of it... the live-action film narrator sounded a lot like the rocky and bullwinkle live-action movie narrator as well. And the creator made both tv series... I wonder...

Basically johnny test but in a jungle?

I think my most obscure piece of trivia for this show that I know is that in the Japanese dub (yes this show has a Japanese dub apparently) George has the same seiyuu/voice actor as Ghirahim. I'm not joking.

I found it funny how he says that fanboy and chum chum/Breadwinner's as currently airing shows even though they both ended like forever ago

I remember watching some reruns of this on Television around 2011 or 2012, and like my peers I had never heard of the Original from the 1960s. In fact, I didn't know this was a reboot of an older Cartoon until watching this very review.

I saw this when I got bored from watching Tom and Jerry on Saturdays. I was a stupid kid

Junge of the Georgle...... I can't think of organs. Did reboot George just pogged in the intro?

To be honest, Season 2 is not my cup of tea for this show. Yeah it does try to fit in with the rest of the original George Of The Jungle, but there were a lot of episodes and scenes that were just outright “adult” even for a series aimed to kids. Highlights include the multiple times characters are eaten and that one episode where Magnolia (the civilized character) ate numerous termite-like insects thinking that it would increase her intelligence, but that backfired when she turned into one of the insects herself. I remembered seeing Season 2 back when I was in Sydney, Australia and most of the episode plots are generic or at best, outright mind-boggling. But as you mentioned, there are plots that fit in with the criteria of the original show like George changing his diet due to finding out meat is animals. What I like is that they even brought back the original recurring villains from the original Jay Ward production instead of what they do for conflict in Season 1, where it’s a typical villain of the week format. And boy howdy, Magnolia (Ursula back in Season 1), gets tortured a lot in Season 2. There’s the episodes where she was sent to survive the jungle alone and she even pretended to be an endangered species to gain sympathy from George, only to get herself encased in a giant container.

I remember watching an episode back in the 2000s & I honestly don’t remember vibing with it.

The only things I remember from this show is that it had an episode named Bathroom of the Apes and there was an episode with a switch that changed the shape of the Earth.

I'm very glad that I skipped the 2007 version, also didn't know that this was actually a remake of a George of The Jungle cartoon and that was made by the same guy who made Rocky and Bellwinkle.

I was introduced to George of The Jungle through the Brendon Fraiser films, but now after watching this I wouldn't mind checking out the original cartoon as I really did enjoy Rocky and Bellwinkle. I also wouldn't mind checking out George of The Jungle season 2 as well

The 2007 series was my reintroduction to George...my original intro was the Brendan Fraser movie. Also, it wasn't THAT cringey. Season 2, which came YEARS AFTER, was FAR WORSE.

Tbh for me this show was one of those you watched after a day of school to just relax the brain, it doesn't need to be quirky or overly complicated as in "why Magnolia has a southern accent" (mostly because in other countries this isn't even a thing). Now, "I don't know why it failed". Well, maybe because at this point the main original series is over 50 years old and no kid in the present day has heard of it. However, most of those kids grew watching the 2007 version which after the "reboot" of season 2 had nothing to do with that version and therefore was not worth watching since no one would understand why they made the changes. I semi-agree with the "why make a reboot if you're not gonna be accurate to the original" but honestly, if you want the original so much and for it to be so accurate, just go watch the original. I used to hate shows like Velma but I gave it a go and tbh it's interesting. On the other hand, I also can't stand things like Ben 10 reboots, because they all are shadows of the original for me. In the end, a reboot is a reboot, and no one will like it if it's not the same as the one they grew up to see. So you should approach reboots as whole new series, otherwise, you'll be upset and not like it.

I like this version better because it’s has some more interesting stuff then the original series and in the movie also and some of the new characters are fine too.

The fact that they made S1!Magnolia more jungle than George himself (to *ugh* / borderline feral levels) is a hard no for me. Also, they made S1!Ursula's father evil for no reason. What the hell is a "Dr. Chicago"!?

I think what I hate is that flash animation can at least have a few moments of smoothness Look at Spliced, another teletoon cartoon (that is very underrated). Sometimes the animation goes from slow to the smoothest I've ever seen. It's like that one early simpsons clip

So season 2 "Ursula" was a change I didn't like. She comes across like a completely mentally stunted barbarian... a total shift from her previous character in the previous seaon, and nothing at all like her original incarnation. It also doesn't make sense that shes so... lacking in intelligence and social grace when George who is the jungle man to her jungle girl is mostly functional as a human. I get that her character in the remake was kind of pointless but surely such a radical change to her character wasn't needed.

I'm pretty sure they took a intrest in the property bacuase of the George of the jungle movie they made, which did VERY good in the home release And that movie was pretty good from what I remember, or at least by a young child entertainment standards 😂

As a former Brony, I hate that Magnolia shares her voice with Rarity. I love Rarity.

Never knew about the 60's cartoon. I thought this cartoon was trying to be based off the live action movies. I was confused by all the differences. All I remember about this show is that it existed.

Ngl i didnt even know there was a jorge of the jungle show made before this one until today- i feel like maybe the criticism of the second season comes from old fans of the new show as kids and they didnt know the prior show existed before either which is probably why they didnt like it. To them it was probably just they randomly decided to bring the show back and make it completely different out of the blue not knowing that it was actually following the prior shows themes. Definitely going to give the second season a shot though sense it looks pretty good!

Season 1 is hella better. Like its animation quailty and jokes.

I remember the one episodes The episode start with a zombie rhino charge at any effect anyone and become zombies? Why is there some rhino or elephant zombie that likes peanuts? I don’t know!?!?!?

I'm from Canada, so I actually remember when the first season of this was on TV. I actually recognized George of the Jungle from the live action adaptation (which I'd never actually watched, but I'd seen a few trailers of, which was enough exposure to that very memorable theme song to make it recognizable later on). Even with as little as I'd seen of what apparently wasn't even the original George of the Jungle (which is actually the first I'm hearing of, didn't know it was something the Rocky and Bullwinkle guy made), it seemed pretty obvious to me this was far from a faithful adaptation and mainly came off to me as some sort of reskinning of Dave the Barbarian. Though somehow it was on Teletoon enough at the time that that pretty clearly inferior theme song managed to be catchy and stick in my head, to the point that hearing it again after countless times is somehow on the cusp of nostalgia. Though I guess that's just my rose-coloured filter I get when recalling basically anything prior to March 2020.

The episodes are disturbing as everyone else mentioned. Is It That Cute crosses the line as being just plain messed up, but it gets worse when season 2 arrives and that is where this terrible reboot hits rock bottom. 😖

Season 1 sucked in my opinion but now that I know season 2 exists I might watch it

I Watched this back then I liked it for a bit but then seeing on Teletoon Retro and saw the OG GotJ which is the more F'd up and salt in the wound for the old fans and the kids who saw the OG cartoon and this one.

S2 kinda reminds me of A Kind Of Magic where they also added random things in S2 and BOY do i have a lot of questions for these. 1. They gave Cindy a crush named Ahmed who's literally a recolor of that one blue haired guy from S1 Ep Lovely Dragon. Tbf i'll take Cindy crushing on other boys any day because at least they last for few secs/minutes on screen and know they're never gonna hook up with her anyway. 2. They also give her a girl rival named Tamara who also crushes on Ahmed. She actually did appear in S1 but her and Cindy's relationship was never established until now. 3. Tom was also given a crush named Sophie who is a teen and also Cindy's friend and classmate. Now we all crush on people older than us but considering their age gap they will never get together so why build it up? 3. There is this magic mirror found in a the Magic Store hidden behind the curtains where it allows you to go willy-nilly into the Fairy World vice versa and NONE of the Feeriksens even question this...WHY??? 4. Appearently, only Ferocia is banned from the Fairy World because of her vile actions, but like... The Feeriksens were banished because the parents are an ogre and a fairy, right? Shouldn't the whole family be banned?

I only saw the first season I was like "what the hell?" Why are they rebooting this show? And the Brendan Fraser movie had come out a decade ago, yeah like you said it was just loud and obnoxious and the characters were annoying.

Hey! I liked the cartoon on Cartoon Network. The first season.

To be honest there are some aspects the season 2 reboot that are better than and worse than season 1 its has better grasp of the source material not entirely close but still trying

How you feel about this show is exactly how I feel about the boys show on Amazon. Literally nothing in common with the comic aside from the basic premise and the character names, and it's just a worse interpretation of the characters.

The first season: garbage. Second season: actual effort put into the show.

In season 2 of the reboot George is clearly more buff, like the original. Despite the show being animated digitally they took the time to touch up his model for the second season to make him more in line to the original version.

I remember watching an episode of the second season and being “was George always buff”??

The first season was pretty alright. But the second season was... very terrible.

I had to turn this show off every time it came on
