His tribute for Freddy Mercury - Somebody to Love - is my favorite George Michael!!
Aretha was such a fan of George’s that she wanted him to write and produce an album for her. When George met Aretha he was barely 21 and was so overwhelmed because Aretha was one of his idols. This duet gave Aretha her first number one in the UK of her career. And she rose to the top after being off the charts for many many years. This was a dream team. I love this!

She did not ask George to write this. Here she is talking about how it came to be on rare MTV interview, she was complementary of George and predicted would be a hit. She had a lot of hits in the 80s, starting with her being in Blues Brother movie, #1 R&B (Get it right) written by the great Luther Vandross and then a sting of hits (Freeway of Love, Who’s Zoomin Who, Jumpin Jack Flash, Jimmy Lee) after this too. Great duet. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hoSf1aSLer23gpc.html

@L G George did NOT seek Aretha for this song! NO! Clive Davis APPROACHED George to collaborate with Aretha. Yes! They went looking for George. They asked George to write AND produce a song for this duet, but George was too nervous to b/c he admired Aretha so much. Understand that George was VERY respected in the R&B community and his talent was recognized all over at a very early time.

Never clicked so fast! This is my favourite song. No one compares to Aretha. Such a great duet, their voices together are pure bliss. You should watch her rendition of Natural Woman at the Kennedy Center in front of Obama. It's a powerhouse performance and she was in her 70s.

Aretha was always the queen, no one could touch her as far as singing. And George Michaels was so freaking talented and had a golden voice that wouldn't quit.
George always had the soul to hold his own against R&B divas. Check out his duet with Whitney Houston, "If I Told You That"; and his duet with Mary J. Blige covering Stevie Wonder's "As."
I still can't believe George Michael is gone. What an amazing talent!
Oh man, I freaking loved this song when it came out. I still do. Goosebumps.
George sang with Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige, Chaka Khan & Whitney Houston & he nailed it every time. Not many male singers could hold their own with that calibre of female vocalist.
In 1989, George Michael was the first white artist to win Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist at the American Music Awards and he was also the first white male vocalist to ever record a song with Aretha Franklin.
George was a Total Class Act! He Never upstaged or "outsang" Any Artist he collaborated with! This duet is a perfect example of that. These classic artists are genuinely missed.❤❤
This was such a good collab! Aretha's voice is so soulful! She can belt and do riffs that are superb.❤️!! George is one of my favorite vocalist and his voice is incredible!! ❤️ His voice melds so well with other's Artists. This song is just pure talent all the way!! 🙌

Still cant believe will be 5yrs on Christmas day that we lost out beloved George. I was lucky enough to see him 2 times in concert and both were at Wembley Stadium. Wembley stadium was knocked down and rebuilt and George Michael was first artist to preform in New Wembley Stadiumthe June 2007, then saw him again on his 25 tour. Still to this day in my top 3 best concerts ever been too. 🎶🎵🎤🎷

I clicked on this video SO FAST my fingers almost snapped 😄. THANK YOU for continuing to do George Michael videos. He's my favorite male pop star of all time and of course Aretha is a LEGEND. Fun fact: this single went to #1 on the Billboard chart and was released right between George leaving Wham and starting his solo career. This was the transition to his blockbuster album Faith which would be released the following year and go on to dominate the next two years on the charts. So this song always felt like one established icon (Aretha) anointing the next big pop star (George).
One of the best duet's ever recorded, IMO.
This won the Grammy in 1987 or 88 for best duet it took Aretha’s career back to the top especially in the UK. When George did his Faith tour in Detroit, she was there n they performed this live
I love this song it stays on my play list. I must say nobody does it like Aretha..but George holds his own!
Worth a listen, if you haven’t… is when Aretha sang in honour of Carole King at the Kennedy Honors. Obama cried… Carole lost it..: awesome performance as well. Check it out!

These two take you to church. I absolutely loved this duet when it came out. Canadian Grandma Lori C.
This is one of my favorite duets of all time. Such chemistry and mutual respect for one another and command of the song they both loved, made this a number one hit worldwide. I remember when it came out on MTV. You need to check out the duet between George and Ray Charles, Blame It On The Sun. It’s featured on Ray Charles album Genius in Friends much more of a recent recording. George’s voice aged like fine wine. It’s just my favorite voice of all time. I hope you can react to Blame it On The Sun, with George and Ray.
People always underestimated George's vocal chops. There's very few who would even dare to attempt a collab like this and yet they pulled it off with such ease. Most people wouldn't even try to duet with the (still and eternal) queen of soul, George did it flawlessly and you can see in the video he's in total awe of her. George was an amazing vocalist as well as song writer, he always deserved more credit. He and Aretha are both so missed, this made me tear up that they're both gone.
