This came out about 87 and was huge, everybody loved it then as we do now!! George was in his prime and this was when Aretha was making a big comeback. Dont forget Aretha does a great duet with Annie Lennox.

Aretha had lots of hits throughout 80s, including #1 R&B hit produced by Luther V “Get it Right” before this, this duet was big hit, but hardly her comeback in decade. Freeway of Live, Who’s Zoomin Who, Jimmy Lee, Jumpin Jack Flash, Jumo to it, all hits, in addition to her being in top movie in 80 for Blues Brothers and song Freedom

George dueted with the big ones. Mary J Blige, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson to name just a few. His "duet" with Queen at Freddie Mercury's Tribute Concert is the mecca. There's also a great story behind this song. Aretha showed up for recording with a whole mess of wings, ribs something like that. George was still relatively new, this fell in between his solo career and Wham!. He impressed the hell out of Aretha.

Asia is correct. George Michael IS a soul singer. He never tried to be something he was not. He just sang from his soul. Facts behind this song: Clive Davis and Aretha's people pursued George Michael for this duet. NOT the other way around. In 1985, George Michael sang at the Apollo during the Motown Returns To The Apollo celebration. He was one of only 3 "Caucasian" singers invited to sing on stage. Upon the organizers asking GM who he would like to sing/duet with. He expressed his dream to sing with Stevie Wonder and requested to duet Stevie's song "Love's In Need of Love Today". Which he did and slayed! he also sang a duet with Smoky Robinson to Careless Whisper. Sorry, but he out sang Smoky and everyone noticed. From here on - Motown and other black artists/musicians really took notice to GM's incredible vocals, songwriting and producing abilities. Anyway, George declined 3 times out of nervousness singing with Aretha for he has listened and admired Aretha from when he was very young. Finally, he agreed. He was asked to write and produce the song, but he was not confident enough (at that time) to take on that task for Aretha! Anyway - this song won the Best R&B Duo or Group Grammy award in 1987 and gave Aretha her first number one after 20 years at that time. MORE GEORGE MICHAEL "soul singer" facts. 1) Did you know GM was the first "white" male to win the American Music Award for Favorite R&B Male AND Favorite R&B Album for his album FAITH in 1989? kzread.info/dash/bejne/hp1ryNZulN2eaJs.html 2) George was invited and sang a 3-song set in 1988 for the Nelson Mandela Birthday celebration concert (Free Nelson Mandela concert). He refused to sing his own songs as he stated that this concert was not about him but a very important issue that needs to end. (apartheid). So, he sang 3 songs by some of his favorite black artists. He did Stevie Wonder's "Village Ghetto Land", Gladys Knight's "If I Was Your Woman" (which he changed to If You Were My Woman), and Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6KWmq-OZNW0dKw.html 3) Stevie Wonder was blown away by George's incredible voice and range. He gave open permission for George Michael to cover ANY of his songs. Which George did! 4) Speaking of Stevie Wonder covers: Did you know George Michael did a duet with Mary J Blige to Stevie's "As"? Please react to it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZYprlJiYeLbOqbw.html 5) If I may recommend 3 songs. George Michael's cover of Stevie Wonder's "They Won't Go When I Go". Just George, one piano and a couple of back up singers. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oZWow4-ko9Demso.html George Michael's song "Kissing A Fool" - jazzy and soulful. He wrote, produced, arranged and composed it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mpyhzJiAnZCcdNI.html AND George Michael's "One More Try" live. He sang this in a more gospel arrangement than the original single. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y5aE2rumo9mTfcY.html I can go on and on. lol Please let me know if you would like more suggestions. of what I think you two would like. Enjoy! 😊

He passed away on Christmas 2016, and was famous by the song "Last Christmas". By the way, he and a colleague from the group Wham rewrote all the copyrights from the sale of that single to hungry children from Ethiopia. He didn't earn much at that time, and the single sold several million copies. He was considered the new singer of the group "Queen", after his performance at the concert held in honor of Freddie. Numerous stars performed on that occasion, but everyone agreed that no one sang Quinn's songs like him. He modestly refused to be the singer of the group, believing that there is no substitute for Freddie. George Michael has left millions of dollars to humanitarian organizations that help children and people suffering from cancer and AIDS. He was also one of the producers of the original band single from 1984, thanks to which more than 20 million dollars were collected for hungry Ethiopians. During his life, George Michael secretly committed great humanitarian deeds non-stop: 1. He donated $ 18,000 for in vitro fertilization to a complete stranger Deal Or No Deal TV host Richard Osman hosted a woman who wanted to raise $ 18,000 for in vitro fertilization. By chance, Michael watched the show and secretly paid her money the next day. 2. He founded an organization that fights for the rights of children with disabilities He founded the "Trust", which offers grants to people with disabilities and children with special needs. 3. He worked in a shelter for the homeless He volunteered in shelters for the homeless and asked the employees of those institutions not to tell anyone about his deeds. 4. He gave millions of dollars to the Childline service The founder of the Childline telephone service, which is available to British children 24 hours a day and can be contacted by anyone under 19 who has any life problem, revealed that Michael gave all the money earned from the hit "Jesus To A Child" to organization. "He gave us millions of dollars and we planned to do a big concert in his honor on the 30th anniversary of its founding and thank him on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of children he helped," said Esther Rancen. 5. He gave hundreds of free tickets to hospital staff in Austria Michael sent 1,000 free concert tickets to employees of the hospital in Vienna where he was treated for pneumonia in 2011. "I would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who saved my life and all my fans for their love and support," he said at the time. 6. He donated the proceeds from "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" to a children's humanitarian organization and the AIDS Foundation

Early on in George’s career, he totally laid out the fact that he was very influenced by American soldier music. He considered himself a soul singer. If you dive into his entire catalog, R&B and soul jumps out in your face. He was just a beautiful singer. No matter who he sang with, Aretha, Mary, J, Whitney, Stevie, Smokey, Ray Charles, his voice never Faltered and never sounded fake. Because he truly had soul .

Well a ton of people loved this song because it did go to number one in the country and you’re absolutely right they meant for it to have a throwback feel and you have to watch the video because first of all you can tell they’re having a blast making the song together but they show old clips of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell and some other Motown error people so you could tell they were trying to get that throwback feel

I love when people react to amazing uncommon songs. I could put this song in the search box for a reaction and I promise I might find like 2 or 3. This is what I'm talking about!!!

This is an uplifting, hopeful song that has stood the test of time, just as inspiring as the day they recorded it. Wham! was a fun group & you can see George's talent & potential with it. But that's nothing compared to the songs he did on his own, particularly the ballads. You'll get plenty of requests for Careless Whisper, Kissing A Fool, One More Try & Freedom 90. But I've never seen anyone react to Soul Free, which is an underrated, soulful song that should get more appreciation.

You say what you want about how female vocalists sing today and yesterday, But damn, Aretha Franklin... NOBODY will ever be able to touch her. She was the best! And with my boy George Michael, this was easily the greatest duet ever.

I love this it was a big thing when it happened these two coming together. Checkout George with Mary j blige doing Stevie wonder as the video is different. Aretha and Annie Lennox doing sisters are doing it for themselves and George doing somebody to love at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.there's rehearsal footage of David Bowie watching George rehearse the song.

Like a few in the 80s I saw him as a bit cheesy etc (although that did inc careless whisper) but his solo career he wrote and sang along with the best. And Aretha was the best. He died at 53 on Christmas day , his sister died in Xmas day a few years later. It also came out he was a great secret giver to charity. Class

This is the story, George wanted to do this song with Aretha, However, for some reason she was reluctant. Once she was in, This was the first hit she had in 20 Yrs. She commented later what It was like working with George? She said he was very professional, "You know I like that" Yet he's was wonderful & fun. She also asked him to write her some of his songs. Well, he said very graciously, He was sorry but he hadn't even written enough for himself. As some of your watchers said George did a lot of collaborations with the Best Of The Bests. I have heard a contradictory comment about George, EVER! That's because he never deserved It. However, let's say the SUITS that wanted to blacklist him, "because he wouldn't play their game" ( all they wanted was the money he made them. ( off the charts ) So he left the States after the FAITH album, & continued to perform in 68 counties abroad in the first 25 yrs. & went on for a total of 30+ yrs, before his passing. What a gift this man in his totality! Inside & out I'd never to have heard or have known a man through his music that was literally Beautiful inside & out. Very Human, But a Blessing to 100,s of thousands of people who love him Profoundly! Quite Literally! George lives on in our lives & in our hearts Forever Till The End Of Time. I do hope that the two of taking the time to experience George, You won't be sorry!🎶💖🕯😇🎶 TILL THE END OF TIME!

George has some amazing duets. Check out his duet with Whitney Houston "If I Told You That" and you must do the video version because it is the best. Is duet with Mary J. Blige singing Stevie Wonder's song "As" is great too. George Michael loved Stevie Wonder and Stevie loved George too. George was asked to perform his song Careless Whisper with Smokie Robinson at the Apollo Theater early in his career. George said he would love to but he only had one request - could he also perform with Stevie Wonder. Check out their live duet of Stevie's "Love Is In Need Of Love Today". George is so young and you can tell he is nervous but yeah man, it was amazing. Years later they teamed up again to do "Living For The City". I tell you right now, they brought the house down with that performance and Stevie was in rare form. George was the only artist I really thought was better live than his recording. His performance of Somebody To Love at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert is legendary. It should be on everybody's bucket list of songs to hear/see.
