This version of this song brings back a bittersweet memory from about 1967, I was deeply in love, and she played this song for me. During the height of the Viet Nam Conflict, I was drafted. I'd hear from her now and then, but the distance to Fredrick, Maryland and her home in Iowa was just too much. It still brings tears to my eyes!!!

I resonate so much with your story, as do many others, I believe... those unfinished youth loves still bring tears to my eyes as well. It's as if they remain cristalized in our hearts and minds, evergreen, wounds that never completely heal. I hope you can get closure some day, perhaps find that girl and speak to her about your experience and nostalgia. One things is for sure, though: if she sung you this song once, I am certain that she remembers it and the man she sung it to. What a beautiful serenade it is! Be well, Richard.

But take comfort God brought us home, some never made it home. My heart hurts for those and there Families. We were rejected for many years by the American people but that too has passed. Now we receive Honor by those who thank us. God Bless you brother.

mr king of country music mr george glenn jones and i how miss him and his music

This is the song that really got me into George Jones. We played this song at my grandma's funeral and it really brought the emotional lyrics out of me. It got me into old country music. It's so much better than the cap they play on modern country radio. In 19 years old and I appreciate all of the ones before the modern singers

God Bless you and keep you safe, my condolences, I lost my younger sister to complications of Covid 19 a few days ago, and I know I will grieve for a long time, but if we have faith in the Lord we will see them again someday in a place where we will never more part again 💝👍😇

I walked thru the 70's with you George , I'll never forget meeting you at the old Edson Hotel in Toronto U may have had a few but u put on a terrific show. You will always be the very best, peace Possum.

March 01, 1980 Myself and my young beautiful wife danced our first wedding dance to this song 🎵. And 40 years later we still dance to it. Thanks! George Jones!

One of the all time greats has left this world. He is now with Tammy again, Standing by her man! I grew up listening to these old songs and watching Tammy and George on the TV miss the good old music shows.. R.I.P George!

and nobody will as there are no real country singers anymore just pop singers wearing boots and cowboy hats. Alan Jackson and Randy Travis are country but they are getting past it.

My God- this man is just amazing. If I had even one penny for every time this mans voice made my hair stand up I would be a multi-BILLIONARE. I just can't love his voice anymore than I do. I feel like when he drew in a breath of regular air his vocal chords converted the air to GOLD. I know Jones has been sick recently and is talking of retiring after next year... I sure hope he is feeling better and that he finally gets the peace he deserves. He's been through and done enough...

Tell truth I listen George Jones since was child on radio. Back 1970s still do today age 53. Have cds and box set and records. And tapes wear them out . My favorite artist country music. Though his life. God bless George up in heaven. Truly do miss him.

RIP George- you sang my life- this is my song played at my hubby n my wedding reception, in a local hole in the wall...no more hole's in the walls but 28 years later, it's still our song- wish you were still here to sing it to us- on hopefully our 30th coming up soon! SOOO miss you---
