George Jones - "The Race Is On"
Музыка
Album: I Get Lonely in a Hurry
Utgitt: 1964
"The Race Is On" is a song written by Don Rollins and made a hit on the country music charts by George Jones and on the pop and easy listening charts by the unrelated Jack Jones. (This is not the Don Rollins who co-wrote It's Five O'Clock Somewhere for Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett.) George's version was the first single released from his 1965 album of the same name. Released as a single in September 1964, it peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and at number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1965. Jack's version topped Billboard's Easy Listening chart and reached number 15 on the Hot 100 the same year. The two recordings combined to reach number 12 on the Cashbox charts, which combined all covers of the same song in one listing and thus gave George Jones his only top-40 hit. The song uses thoroughbred horse racing as the metaphor for the singer's romantic relationships.

Lyrics: I feel tears wellin' up cold and deep inside Like my heart's sprung a big leak And a stab of loneliness sharp and painful That I may never shake You might say that I was taking it hard Since you wrote me off with a call But don't you wager that I'll hide in sorrow When I may lay right down and bawl Now the race is on And here comes pride in the backstretch Heartaches goin' to the inside My tears are holdin' back, they're tryin' not to fall My hearts out of the runnin' True love's scratched for another's sake The race is on and it looks like heartaches And the winner loses all One day I'd ventured in love Never once suspectin' what the final result would be And how I lived in fear of waking up each morning Thinking that you gone from me There's ache and pain in my heart For today was the one that I hated to face Somebody new came up to win her I came out in second place Well the race is on And here comes pride in the backstretch Heartaches goin' to the inside My tears are holdin' back, they're tryin' not to fall My hearts out of the runnin' True love's scratched for another's sake The race is on and it looks like heartaches And the winner loses all Låtskrivere: Don Rollins

Repent and trust in Jesus. We all deserve Hell for our sins, such as lying lusting coveting and more. We can't save ourselves, but Jesus can save us. He died on the cross to save us for our sins and rose from the grave defeating death and Hell. You must put your faith in him only. He is the only way to Heaven. Repent and trust in Jesus. Good? Hell, he's way beyond good, I did the guitar tabs on this on Ultimate Guitar, as mentioned earlier, and while I was able to figure out what he was doing, I could not play it, it is crazy, he's got the guitar tuned way down, and he's using metal finger-picks like a banjo player would, and on top of that, he and George are probably well lit, ha ha.
George was an awesome country performer
I have 85 songs and 50 allbums of George Jones
This video of George is one of my favorites. I can't help thinking that his facial expressions are a precursor to stuff we've since seen from none other than Jim Carey. It seems everyone has a twin somewhere, but each of them have carved out unbeatable careers.
Good ol' George, three sheets to the wind & could still out perform anyone of these so called country artists today!
James Hollie on bass and backing vocals!
Fantastic live sound! I like this better than the studio recording.

Well, actually, he's the definition of a "brilliant singer/artist." He's a genius and a legend. But "class"? He was a huge emotional and personal mess for the vast majority of his life. He had no "class" whatsoever, just pure ego. He let down thousands of fans when he didn't feel like showing up for shows because he was too messed up. My favorite singer, but... "class"? No.
Seen him with Conway Twitty and bird gossin in 1985 at the Chicago theater enough said

I had to ask ChatGPT on this one. Do you know the name of the guitarist who played the solo for George Jones's song "The Race is On"? Yes, the guitarist who played the solo on George Jones's song "The Race is On" is named Jimmy Capps. Addendum: Went back and asked later, it said that it was "Pete Wade", then later it said it was "Grady Martin". I am about 95% sure it was NOT Jimmy Capps, comparing photos, and Grady Martin played in Marty Robbins's band, and this guy does not look like Grady Martin . . . . . so I think it MAY be Pete Wade.

He kinda look like ben shapiro lol
George is drunk here it seems. Look at the way he looks at the camera. And a little slur in the voice. And he’d still sing circles around any idiot that says they’re country now.
