I was in high school when he was hot, I was still a Sanborn, Kenny, Charlie, and John guy but had NO idea we lost George Howard so long ago until yesterday. I can listen to this song and visualize road trips with mom, Dad getting ready for a barbecue, family reunion card games. Never be alone!

I first became aware of George Howard in the very early 80's and was totally blown away !!! If you think about it, he was a true pioneer in the Smooth Jazz field ... utilizing many RnB songs and smoothing them out like we had never experienced before that on a regular basis also employing vocals which today we would label Neo-Jazz. Yes, we MUST applaud his foresight into the newly created genre of the time which was (and still is) what we embrace to this very day. R.I.P. George, you are missed

Gallys: I surely agree with you! I love this song from his "Nice Place to Be" album...so playful sonically yet with heartfelt lyrics! Saxophone titan Walter Beasley does a wonderful rendition of it on his latest offering "Going Home." I know that it sounds cliché but we know that no one sounded like George Howard--not then and not today! He really created and maintained his own sonic lane on soprano saxophone. It's truly heartbreaking that Art Porter (1996); underrated guitarist Zachary Breaux (1997); George Howard (1998), and Grover Washington Jr.(1999), each passed away in consecutive years--as aforementioned! Each was still quite young (Porter, 35 years old); Breaux (36 yrs.old); Howard (41 yrs old); and Washington (56 yrs old). Grover Washington Jr. and George Howard left a wealth of melodic musical material, while Porter and Breaux each did four great albums apiece. Though grateful for each wonderful musician's tremendous accomplishments, We can't help but wonder how their careers would be today as the industry (with social media, etc) has shifted musical gears significantly! I'm sure that George Howard and his peers and predecessors still would be thriving! It's just fascinating to me how the industry was different while they were here--as if they were in a time capsule. I'm happy that we still have their music. I just hope that their legacy always will be remembered and maintained as they were priceless architects of the genre specifically, and in music generally! Thank you and God bless! They all mean a lot to us all! 🎼🎵🎶

I was in the eight grade when I fell in LOVE with the sax. When I heard George or Grover I was mesmerized! I was saddened to hear that he passed. He and Grover both left us to soon but they both left the world great treasures. RIP you're truly missed but your music will LIVE forever!

Wow! I was just thinking back to 1986 or 87 and driving to work listening to KJLH and I loved listening to this smoothie groove! Now, it’s on my playlist. Still moves me.
