George wrote such uplifting music!! How can you not feel something spiritual listening to this (no matter what your beliefs might be). He didn't care who/what you followed, just that you aspired to be a good person and loved your fellow humans, and the world as a whole. RIP George.

Well, yes and no. We will never know what John might have done. We had a taster on 9 October 1980, his 40th birthday. I bought it and was on cloud 9. He was back; I was ecstatic. Exactly 2 months later (4 days after my birthday) he was murdered. So up to a point yes, but we will never truly know. Breaks my heart. Oh and never, ever mention the murdering bastard's name. That's what he wanted, to have his name linked to John's forever. He's the assassin, the murdering bastard or the killer. Ok, so have a great weekend, wherever you are. x love, peace and music from East Coast of England.

I think what you’re referring to was a string instrument from India called a sitar which George learned to play and also that was a Hindu chant. “Harrison’s lyrical attempt to bridge a divide between Christianity and Hinduism was one meaning of the song.” George just wanted everyone to get along and live in peace☮️

John Lennon and Paul McCartney didn't want to record Harrison's music except when they needed more songs to finish the album. That's how the love song - Something (In The Way She Moves) was recorded written by Harrison, released by The Beatles and became a massive hit, still considered today as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Harrison by many people is considered their favorite musician from the Beatles.

There wasn't enough room on an album for John and Paul, never mind George towards the end of the Beatles. George was great, but way behind John and Paul for sheer volume of great songs. He matched them twice on Abbey Road and that's about it. Same in their solo careers, take all the greatest 15 songs from each after the break up, you'll see what I mean.

the uniqueness of this song is that he took Hindu/Krishna spiritual chant and set it to a standard Gospel chord progression. Even though the concepts were foreign to a western audience, the song became number 1. Pretty amazing. Yes, George wrote almost all his own material. And he had 1 or 2 songs on almost every Beatles album - and many absolutely great ones. All Things Must Pass is an incredibly deep album. You should check out as much of this album as you can.

The "George songs" were always a highlight when I was young going through my mother's old Beatles records - "Something," "Here Comes the Son," and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" are just a few examples. And any old clips of them live, his harmonizing is integral to the whole vibe. And when they started despite being barely 15, he was the most musically talented technically, as far as a proper guitar player. It is just part of being a Beatles fan to always root for George! In addition to the songs he did closer to the break-up, he came with some great 80's tunes like "I Got My Mind Set on You" and "When we Were Fab" then was essentially in the lead spot for the super group the Travelling Willberrys (i.e. "Handle with Care," "End of the Line," etc)and they had a great album with a few unforgettable tunes. His post-humous 3 part bio done on Showtime like 10+ years ago is a MUST WATCH, especially as it seems you are both really digging his music. Love to see ya'll giving love to George!

Such a signature sound. He came up with this song after jamming with Billy Preston during a 1969 tour with Delaney and Bonnie when they were talking about great gospel music. George and Billy were very spiritual. Clapton played with them on that tour also.

Harrison began writing “My Sweet Lord” in December 1969, when he, along with Billy Preston and Eric Clapton were in Copenhagen, Denmark playing with Delaney & Bonnie’s band. It was in the middle of a productive and spiritual period that saw George producing Preston’s “That’s the Way God Planned It” and the “Hare Krishna” mantra of London’s Radha Krishna Temple, as well as writing songs with a spiritual theme for his own planned solo record.

Yes, this is George's writing. He usually got one or two songs onto a Beatles record, but in the later Beatle years he got a few more as his writing improved substantially. Here he chants Hare Krishna and Hare Hare and other Hindu phrases. George was highly spiritual and was a uniter of people in faith and had no difficulty bridging any such gaps. The production on this song and the album All Things Must Pass was by the late Phil Spector, of "Wall of Sound" notoriety, producer of so much 1960's pop.

As most of you know Billy Preston was called "the 5th Beatle" if you haven't seen the dedication to George Harrison look for Billy doing "My Sweet Lord" with Eric Clapton, George's son Dhani, Jeff Lynne to name a few...Billy Kills it with an over the top joyous performance both vocally & on the keyboards! Made George smile from up above I'm sure. Love your reactions guy's, you really listen to every note.

so glad your are reacting to some of George Harrison's music!!!! It is definitely one of my all time favorite spiritual songs, & in this list is also, Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum, and Give Peace a Chance by John Lennon 🙏❤🙏💛🙏 🙏❤🙏💛🙏 The generation back in the 70's (referred to as the Hippie generation) were based on love, peace, & spirituality, & if you stay on this path, you will hear a lot of songs that refer to many forms of spirituality!!!

You are RIGHT!!! All the members of The Beautiful were influenced by Black music and George on this song did a Folk version of Gospel music with this song with a twist of his own religious believe which was Hinduism which the Lord of Life is Vishnu.

George Harrison does some great vocals. He also wrote "Wile My Guitar Gently Weeps" though Eric Classic played a solo in it. You may want to check out some Traveling Wilbury's videos. It's a group made up of George Harrison and some primo artists. They got together just to have fun making music.

For a real beautiful rendition of this song take a listen at the concert tribute to George Harrison. Billy Preston plays keys and does the lead vocals on this while the other great musicians on stage pick up the background vocals. Talk about taking you to church. As you may know, Billy Preston played keyboards on a lot of their songs.

George had a long court case, when the writers of “ He’s so fine “ by the Chiffons claimed My sweet Lord was too close to their song, he settled up.

For “subconscious plagiarism.” What a joke. Regardless, the whole tone of My Sweet Lord is light years away from He’s So Fine. He was attempting to write a song along the lines of “Oh Happy Day.”

Georges slide playing was like no other. He sounded more Eastern in his slide than Blues or Country. Like a good Beatle....there he goes creating something completely unique! Amazing band and amazing watching them keep growing and growing while everyone else followed behind in not only music and art but culture itself. Lucky they were all basically decent people because the world would have followed them off a cliff.😉😎

Billy Preston and George were friends, he brought Billy into the studio sessions of Let It Be and then asked Billy how to write a gospel tune, that is why it sounds a lot like Billy Preston's music. Also, he gave it to Billy to record before he released it on All Things Must Pass.

George was a slow starter in writing songs. At first it was just John and Paul, and he felt self-conscious about his songs. It wasn't until later did he start developing songs, but once he started he quickly picked up the pace and wrote a lot of songs, but because there was only a couple of songs per album. Towards then last few years of the Beatles he felt constraint by only having 2 songs per album. By the time the Beatles split up George had amassed quite a number of songs, which is why his All Things Must Pass album is so big.
