Definitely the best roll out there of this piece
Excellent sound!! thanks for sharing these beautiful rolls
Yep I can see someone taking that riff and making it real metal!!!! 😉
Un vero capolavoro
Thank you for playing. 👏
Burn "by" Deep Purple ......
have you heard Jack Gibbons playing this piece? its quite different but still very musical I was wondering if you could transcribe that recording as well?
Nice! What tools do you use to transcribe?

Are these rolls transcribed by hand, or is there an automated process?

I transcribe by hand.
Could you slow this down by 10 percent please? This piece sounds better when it's relaxed.

I clicked 0.75, it does sound more jazzy style feeling, more relaxed, suits me more. Different style.Still well done though, thank you for playing.

@@mingyuzhou6313 I made a video of this roll with high quality audio if you'd like to hear my favorite tempo
There is also a recording of Fred and Adele Astaire singing along with Gershnwin playing: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aHaIr5JwcpO7Zpc.html Of course the playing is not so fancy and I always wonder to what extent these rolls were edited and perfected after.... My brother played stride and always thought some of the trills were impossible..

A lot of the old piano rolls were for 4 hands and some of them were performed by people but a lot were mechanically arranged. Some were of course, as you suggest, doctored after the parts had been originally "recorded"

It is believed that nearly all Confrey rolls, except for a handful, were made from sheet music arrangements for 4 hands that he wrote out, and which were actually arranged and punched by chief editors at the roll companies (probably Max Kortlander or Victor Arden at QRS, and probably J Milton Delcamp at Ampico, as here). It was still Confrey’s arrangement and ideas, but the realization of the touch/swing and any dynamics, was up to the roll arranger .

A handful of Confrey’s rolls sound exactly like the way he played on his audio recordings, and are likely the closest thing we have on rolls to the “real” solo Confrey. These include “My Pet” and “Johnny’s in Town”.

@@KawhackitaRag Thank you. I know of TWO people who couldn't play at all, but bought players just so they could listen to rolls. That's dedication. I wish I had room for one. My brother had two.
This is such player piano music. Completely unplayable by and actual human.

Unless the pianist has abnormally large hands (Rachmaninoff-size), this piece is indeed unplayable.

@@alexistrevino9349 I was sceptical until I got to measures 130-131 and then I realized it's actually impossible. Even for Rach.
