If outrage over the killing of civilians in warfare is real outrage and not manufactured outrage over the Syrian incident, then where is the outrage over the civilian killings in Yemen or the killings of civilian demonstrators in Palestine. Selective morality is NO MORALITY AT ALL

Or the led contaminated water in Flint michigan and 10 000 other US communities. Just giving all Americans proper health care would save scores of tens of thousands of Americans lives so again if this was about saving lives and humanity in general that would be easiest to do first.

I have to agree with you both in Douma and the missile attacks. The OPCW have been to Douma and taken samples but surely there should have been casualties though appears not. We also haven't heard if there was any casualties in any of the areas where missile strikes took place again it appears not. (Derelict buildings pre arranged by the US with Russia so as not to start a war)I have my own theory's to both but I prefer evidence to theories. The Russian/Syrian side if you want to call it have definitely been able to show us and explain film footage shown on social media much more than the US, UK or France have been able to on either social or main stream media. I do look at the social media footage and other news groups as there isn't any other, and until now the Wests evidence isn't so good and is more so rumours, I will use the word rumours as opposed to outright fabricated lies. This isn't only a governmental war but a war between the medias and this surprises me as journalists are supposed to be loyal to each other, impartial and defend each other. I don't know if your from the UK but if so haven't you noticed an eery silence from both the government and our media on both the Skripols and Douma in recent days??? rarely a mention in nearly a week. Why haven't at least one of our main stream media broken away and shown some of the footage we can see online and let our population see there is another side to this story. Do we want another case where in 15 years we find Assad was the innocent party as far as chemical weapon attacks are concerned as we found out how we were lied to regarding, Vietnam, Iraq, Ukraine, Libya, Syria Afghanistan etc. If the OPCW come back and say there wasn't a chemical attack in Douma will the US, UK and France compensate the Syrian government for the damage they caused.

I think you are going beyond the lack of evidence Nicolq. I think at this point, the reasonable line to argue is that there is no evidence at all of a chemical attack taking place. I think that's enough to be going on with for now?

The power structure in the Middle East is this: Israel and Saudi Arabia all allies, with the backing of the West and they have been the power since they made a deal decades ago. People need to understand that it's not one or the other, it's both.

All this brings up the question of why - WHY should killing people with chemicals be considered more savage (less civilised?) than bombing and shooting them? Is it's death dealing more indiscriminate, more random, than, let us say, a missile being fired into a building that is occupied by civilians but that also might - just might, that's all - contain some of the enemy? Or is it because dying from inhaling poison gas is more painful than being blown to pieces? Perhaps this hypocrisy is introduced to make 'ordinary' warfare seem acceptable, and therefore less likely to be condemned? The same arguments were held - and are still being held - over the dropping of the atom bombs on Japan during the Second World War. Many more people were killed by the Americans dropping 'conventional' bombs on Tokyo than were killed by both the atom bombs combined, yet we rarely hear the type of outrage expressed about this that we are continually treated to regarding the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The News, and the subsequent dialogue, is being directed, my friends. Please wake up and perceive how you are being manipulated.

3:36 There is always a desire for another conflict isn't there? The USA has been at peace for less than 10% of it's existence. There is always a boogey man of some sort. In the past, the conflicts were not that dangerous to the general population. Now that is not the case.

The conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran? Dear me. I love Hitchens but as usual he has this massive blind spot when it comes to a certain Middle Eastern country driving that conflict.

  • @brianarps8756

I don't see any risk of a war between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The best evidence of this is the existence of the proxy war in Yemen. A war between Iran and Saudi Arabia would make the Yemen conflict an expensive and annoying nuisance. It would disrupt both sides from the task of winning an important war. So we can know that neither Saudi Arabia nor Iran expect a war with the other will happen. If they did they would have given Yemen a miss. There is another reason to justify my no-war stance. Such a war cannot be won. Winning would require an invasion by an occupying force. I doubt that Saudi Arabia has the means to occupy Iran even if wanted to. (It does.) I am quite sure that Iran would not be allowed to occupy Saudi Arabia, because the very thought would give the US conniption fits. Bombing practice would follow. Iran knows that. It ain't gonna happen. They may well exchange a few missiles. A sort-of war is possible. A stalemate with a bit of posturing. But a real war over territory? Nah. If they had any sense (they don't) they would sit down and sort things out. But both are trying to pull the US into a regional conflict, because that would strengthen two fairly shaky regimes. The Saudi Regime is the shakiest, so they are trying the hardest, but all Religious Governments become stale fairly quickly and Iran is well past its use-by date. Only a truly stupid US president would join such a War. So don't get your hopes up.
