7:35 This section here is what's missing from the Modern Nymphing DVD. George does a great job explaining how to use the sighter for all sorts of helpful info.

You fly guys make everything so difficult. Been fishing for 70 years and have to laugh, every time I see someone who just spent a couple thousand at Cabellas. Fishing ain't that hard.😋

James D. Swanson, Please stop calling yourself "ole timer" let alone calling him "son" We get it... you're old and he is younger. I am a firm believer in respecting your elders but you're just being rude and disrespectful. The beauty of fly fishing is that there is ALWAYS room for learning and improvement. The minute you think you know it all and that your technique is the best is the minute you plateaued. (which seems like a long time ago) One thing you said that was correct is that you are "no pro." He is a world champion class fly fisherman that has fished with some of the best fisherman in the world! By the age of 21 he was fishing with fisherman like Joe Humphreys! Was on the US fly fishing team for 7 years and was a back to back winner of the US National Championship. Coached the US youth team for 2 years. Placed top 5 in the World Championship. On top of being a successful guide on some of the best water on the east coast. His book "Dynamic Nymphing" is also a best seller. Needless to say people pay him to speak about his techniques and his experiences. Give the man the respect that he deserves and stop with your passive aggressive attitude. You think your explanations in your comments were clear and understood? Let alone you think people are gonna listen to you over George? You think George is gonna learn something he doesn't know from you? Besides... can't you see that this isn't even George's KZread account and that he will never see your comment? If all you wanted was for him to speak slower and more clearly that could of easily been said without your rant. Seem to me more like you want people to think that his technique is wrong and you have a better understanding of fly fishing and a better technique. How many times would you like to tell us that you been fishing for 60 years? or 59? or 30? Just because you have been doing something for a long period of time does not make you a expert or in a position to disrespect someone. He never said that he only uses tight line fishing. That's the whole point of his techniques "Dynamic Nymphing" Dynamic: adj - (of a process or system) characterized by constant change, activity, or progress. If you actually listened to what he had to say he clearly says that all techniques have their time and place. I think everyone else can hear him fine. You just didn't want to listen to what he had to say....

Put the split shot at the end and there won't be any slack. Problem solved. You'll also have less hangups, the nymph will be right in the trout's face, you'll know where bottom is and casting will be easier.

George D. Swanson, "the old can learn from the young." Have you heard of that phrase? What you have done for the past 30 yrs should not be an obstacle to learn new approaches from the youn'uns!

How can one detect movement in the sighter if its above the water?

The sighter will have a slight bend to it, but when a fish takes that creates tension and the line will straighten out. The whole system works because there is no floating indicator acting as an anchor.
