@Alptraum He just had common sense. Anyone with an education will know that widespread use of untested medicine will lead to all sorts of horrors. Sadly, what wasn't understood was the effect of these hormone drugs circulating in the water systems and how it would collapse the fertility and birth rates on the long run. If this could have been imagined in advance, the pill would probably have never been released for the public.

The Dick Cavett Show was the best of all talk shows that have ever been or ever will be on TV. For many years now all talk show hosts are owned by either the left or the right and are completely biased. Back in the day a host as polished, clever and witty as Cavett could have an open dialog with his guests and discuss any subject. He allowed them to speak openly and did not interrupt them if they carried the conversation in an unpredictable way. This is exactly what America needs today more than ever.

Nah, Dick Cavett specifically was a really forward thinking guy. He had Hunter Thompson and invited all sorts of wild people, including Mohamad Ali etc. Dick had his own issues of course, like one time he asked Richard Pryor if white people could say the N word. Then again I think he did this in the 80's, and it was probably good on national television to have Pryor smack him down verbally for being casual about things he didn't understand. May even have set there interview up with Pryor, given all the rough racial issues in the 80's. Dick's shows weren't emblematic of normal tv though sadly, most tv channels were like less angry versions of ABC news leading up through the 80's. Sorta moderate but 100% shilling.

Yup. He was in Omaha the weekend I was supposed to be doing some big-assed report on something or other, I can't remember, Jesus it was 50 years ago. He did his finger-popping joke and I was in heaven. I remember at one point thinking, "I'm going to fail class for not doing that report." I did. I can't remember the class, but I remember George.
