Thank goodness these "great" shows are still available to watch! If it wasn't for KZread, I'd have nothing to watch. I don't watch TV anymore...it's all gone to hell. This is when TV was great and actors and entertainers were respectable, truly talented people! Love always to Carol and Lucy! They were never repeated or outdone.

I loved everything about this episode. That woman must have been in heaven when Carol sang her song. Imagine telling all your friends that Carol Burnett performed your song, wow! That's the first time I have ever seen George Carlin in his youth. I barely recognized him.

Carol had George on as a guest in both phases of his career - this one while he was 'straight', the other (S11E22, with James Garner) in the final season after he'd grown his hair and a beard. The season before this, Carlin did a guest spot on "The Jackie Gleason Show" wherein he parodied FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover - which sparked an investigation by the bureau (and Gleason was a huge supporter of the FBI). That routine was once on KZread but not anymore. I think it was on one of Carlin's DVD's as a bonus, though.

What a great job she did on that woman's song & her name & the costumes.♥️♥️

I grew up seeing the syndicated shows they called "Carol Burnett & Friends" where they cut them down to just the comedy sketches. Now I realize how much was left out. The show should always be seen in its full form. It's a shame there are no shows like this on television anymore.

All of the first five seasons were left out from the syndicated "Carol Burnett and Friends" because of those early shows (such as this edition) being co-owned with Bob Banner. In short, for legal reasons. The last (1977-78) season too, but that was only because 1977 was when it was first syndicated.

Oh Carol so thrilled you’re having Lucy on this show Lucy is another actor singer dancing comedian I absolutely grew up on & just HILARIOUS to the point I was bending over belly-laughing and couldn’t stop if I tried. A great person with a big joyful heart for her fans, family and friends. I’m sooo happy I can watch her reruns. Love you Lucy.

I would have loved to grow up during this time. Im grateful for being born in the early '80s; I just think that people born in the '40's abd '50's have lived through so much amazing inventions, technology and wonderful family shows and phanominal music. ♡

What a remarkably kind thing to do. Most celebs would never even entertain the idea of meeting someone who wrote a song for them, let alone make a full number out of it and sing it. Carol is just that awesome. This was one of the nicest things I've seen someone do!

I was always surprised she never created her own comedy production. I believe she never had the confidence to think she could on her own, I’m just speculating because of how often she would roast herself. Typical move get the punch line on yourself before someone else does, she must have not grown up on the popular side of the school yard if you catch my drift.

First was Burngood, Inc., in association with Bob Banner Enterprises and CBS, from the 1967 debut until 1972. Then until 1976 it was Punkin, Inc., and finally up to the end in 1978 Whacko, Inc.

That was his entire signature, he never really changed just got bolder. I do agree with Groucho Marx, he said during a 70s interview that he” never understood today’s comedy, why comedians think that being funny means you state profanity after every word, you can be funny by just letting the audience use their own imagination”. He had a great point especially looking back at his movies the brothers were genius in their time.

He ended up narrating all the original Thomas the Train shows later in life haha.

I love those giant letters! And the dance scenes were good. Harvey played a rather convincing Cuban. I like Lucy as a blond better than a redhead. ☺️

I always enjoy watching these "new to me" episodes. I enjoyed Carol & Lucy's bitchy banter in the stewardess sketch, plus Lucy's wry observation about accents...! The dancing segment is of course dated style wise, but a lot of fun when you consider how very contemporary it was when originally shot. And I was surprised to see Lyle and Vicki perform a song & dance number for real, no punchline needed. Vicki was always obviously very talented, but these older episodes reveal that Lyle was way more versatile than I ever realized, especially whenever he's given a chance to be funny. And I did not recognize George Carlin at all by his appearance, though clearly his vocal delivery was instantly identifiable. All in all a terrific show!

I seem to remember as the show progressed, by the fifth season Vicki was Carol's rival in the stewardess sketches, how far she had come from the beginning (and that was before "The Family" and her as Mama). As for Carlin, Carol would have him on again in the final season (S11E22) after he'd grown his hair and a beard. One of his segments from that later show is on here.

Harvey can play so many characters. So funny spitting out the Cigar when they tightened his seatbelt. They all were so good. And they had the funniest writers. Dry off Carol and the Band, we need to shoot this again the lighting was all wrong.

I didn't see the shows that Harvey was in , before Carol's : recently found out that he did equally good work on the Danny Kaye Shows.⭐ It's been great watching both those series : There are SO many of Carol's, you keep finding " new" ones, and they haven't "dated" much really. So very entertaining. Carol is a " gem" , like ⭐ Lucy⭐ Today's comedians could learn a lot from ⭐Carol's⭐ shows⭐. Love from England.😊 🇬🇧💕🇺🇲⭐💕🇬🇧😊.

This was - I think - the one and only time Carol did a number that was conceived by a member of the studio audience. And, then there was the now-famous appearance of the lady who was a dead ringer for Bea Arthur who sang "You Made Me Love You". Obviously it could not be done with any regularity. But she was able to do it just a few times over 11 years.

Loved the shower sketch! Great vocal performance and laughs.

George Carlin was one of the greatest stand-up comedians who ever lived. He is much missed. He started doing it during the day when it was still more of an art form than it is today. So many great ones then, among them Bob Newhart and Rickles and many others. Today who do we have? Jo Koy and all these other trite, self-centered idiots with their borderline X-rated material. Carol would NEVER have had some of these brainless, fast-talking people on her show - of course, they didn't exist then so it was perfect.

There were a few Carol didn't have on her show even then - Red Skelton, Danny Kaye, Milton Berle, Red Buttons, Jackie Gleason, Steve Allen . . . (in Gleason's case, he was out in Miami Beach by then, besides his own, ahem, difficult reputation - he sought, since the 1940's, to find a way NOT to work in Hollywood - "from Television City" or otherwise).

I'm a big fan of George Carlin at all stages of his career, but that "J. Edgar Hoover Show" bit was pretty weak stuff. I can see why he never brought this routine back.
