I agree a lot about the Human Tetris bit: I can't make weird tiny boxes anymore, I now have to actually think "Okay but how does a guy actually fit in there?" I can't wait to try and make one-man micro tanks while figuring out how much I can file down.

You'll be like the Soviets making the t-34. Except unless there is a future update, you won't have to worry about how fatigued your crew gets from banging around a tiny hull, bumping their elbows every time they move and overextending themselves to move around that clown car of a tank. Edit: I realized you said one-man tank. That'll make it easier. But maybe try making a 3 crew tank, and try to stuff 5 people in it. You'll have a t-34.

Creativity is the main selling point of the game, and building vehicles to fight against other vehicles that people built with basically no limits... everyone who plays it seriously will eventually be running very slight variations of the exact same optimal tank, defeating the purpose of creating unorthodox and outlandish armored vehicles. Gamers will optimize the fun out of *anything.*

@@wasdwazd the solution to this is to not implement systems of progression or exclusive benefits based on individual performance. If you do have a system of progression, it cannot be based upon performance. At least, not overly reliant on it. Adding rewards for combat performance changes the goals of the game and how you expect the player to play it. And if this approach is an ill-fit and fails for the game, some people will inevitably defend it and say "well just ignore it stop being so serious" but when you lock core progression or the ability to experiment or try new builds or strategies behind your performance, there is no way to play the game without being sweaty. It's a terrible feedback loop, you have to grind and be good on an unbalanced sweaty mess in order to engage with the core gameplay loop. It often isn't optional. Do you want it to be a competitive game, do you want people to take matches seriously, or do you want it to be creative, relaxed, and even silly? The latter is usually the best option for games that are unbalanced and hard to balance. I've seen games that try to simultaneously prioritize creativity + goofiness AND competitiveness + performance based progression, and it sucked the fun out of the entire thing. I've seen competent and fun creations take a nosedive by chasing after mainstream ideas of progression. It's annoying to buy a bad weapon and then have to grind excessively to try out a new one and hope it's better. Especially when the game tries to appeal to creativity and exploration, but you soon find out their progression system is mainstream, restrictive, tedious... You find this out after spending hours in the game. You serve the meta not because you want to be sweaty, but optimizing progression is the only way to somewhat save your time and ease the pain. You want to like it, but as competent as the devs were at making the game itself fun, they slapped on an incompatible progression system which detracts from the core experience. It promised exploration, freedom, and creativity... But the progression system contradicts that and makes any exploration cost tons of time and effort. The exploration is the best part, but it's artificially slowed down and restricted in a painfully unfun way. You have to serve the grind first, then you get little something to keep you barely satisfied. But it's all just meant to stretch out your engagement time artificially. I don't think this game will take that approach. Multiplayer would not likely reward you with anything substantial really. It's just something to play with. First, it'd be nice for friends to play together. But randoms could have fun together. Sure you might run into a sweat or tryhard, but if the game doesn't incentivize that kind of behavior as previously explained, it's probably not going to fester with them. You can also enact transparency or restrictions. You can have both parties bargain about balancing rules. You can set weight limits, you can set caliber limits. Or you can just trust the other player to not be sweaty. You can choose whether or not you see your opponent's build before facing it, or you can choose to go in blind. Maybe you get limited information about it and its components. Its weight, its gun, or maybe just its gun type. You can agree to only bring certain vehicle types, or the game can decide for you and randomize the restriction. Or you can both agree you want no restrictions. I mean, this game isn't going to be balanced. You need to then maximize communication between players. They will have to pick their own battles. It will be up to the players if they want to be social. If they want to just show their goofy designs and goof around. You could have specific game modes specifically for competitiveness. These would of course introduce limitations. Say, there are 5 rounds, and you get X money to spend on building your tank, and it increases each round. Maybe you unlock new components each round. Maybe there are weight limits, armor thickness limits... But you would of course, not give anyone anything for winning. The experience itself should be fun enough. You don't want to over-incentivize sweat. The game is simply incompatible with that. People can get enjoyment from different things. It's not always about killing the opponent as efficiently as possible. People are capable of giving themselves restrictions and standards. And often challenging themselves, makes it more fun. You can have specific game modes that add fun restrictions and game rules. But you can also have freedom. And self-governance. You can have both. You could even have peaceful matchups where you just show each other your tanks. Maybe you see each other and then you can enable combat, expiring a treaty or something. Have a chat system. Allow people to tell you how cool or interesting or funny your design is. You could have co-op game modes... You could even have specific PVP categories. "Casual: a non-serious creative way to fight and show off tanks" and "sweaty: All players in this game mode should have the expectation to build and be the best." I would say that if the game does not actively incentivize sweaty behavior, you will not see it very often. TF2 for example, you don't actively get penalized progression-wise for choosing to be friendly or hang out and be funny and casual, at least back in the day. Community servers are still like this though. And just because someone COULD join a casual server and choose to steamroll everyone... That doesn't mean I don't want those servers to exist. Take it on the chin, you know it's not always like this and this will pass. People are capable of regulating themselves, if you let them. It's not always about winning or killing efficiently. The journey is fun and important. And if the developer doesn't do anything to screw up and warp people's perceived goals in pursuit of some meaningless KD ratio or bad grindy progression system, it can be very wholesome, and it can work. You said it yourself. This game is meant to express creativity. Why would you then expect sweats to buy and invade it? It's not a sweaty game. It can be unbalanced, but that doesn't mean it's going to be unfun. Just don't dangle a prize in someone's face and take it away and punish them for showing their creativity rather than following a strict meta.

Sorry for being a nerd, but just for the info, Sweden had a lot (at least two LT - Strv m/41S I and S-II as far as I remeber and few SPGs - Sav m/43 (1944) and (1946),Spj fm/43-44 and Pbv 301 SPAAG) based of Lt vz 38/Pz 38 (t) tank before they came up with the S-tank idea, so for me your build reminded more of this part of Swedish tank history - Strv m/ 41 light tank)) P.S. watching your Sprocket vids give me so much inspiration both for my current builds and future geometrics that I am just being happy. Thank you so much and keep up the great work!)
