As a southerner born and raised in southeast Tennessee, U.S. I have to say alot of the southern Americans I have been associated with have said that as southern Americans they (we) identify with the Irish and Scottish peoples and Countries especially where I'm from in the South, I myself have Irish, Scottish, English and Welsh ancestry as well as German, Dutch, Norwegian Swedish and French. I live south of the Great Smoky Mountains in east Tennessee some of the most beautiful and picturesque areas in East Tennessee from the Smoky Mountains to Lookout Mountain to Starr Mountain to Raccoon Mountain to Tellico Plains, Chattanooga so much more the Smoky mountains are big they expan into North Carolina across the border and in the city of Chattanooga Lookout expans over the border into Northern part of Georgia (state). I live in between both. Come to the States and the South especially some time, I myself would love to see Europe someday.

so when it comes to Washington DC (or District of Columbia) the reason why they aren't a state is that the founding fathers did not want any one state to have the position as capital of the nation. So they took a plot of land from Virginia, unincorporated it at made it the capital. It used to be a perfect 100 sq mile diamond, but lost its southwestern borders when West Virginia succeeded from the Union and never got it back afterwards. Because it lacks statehood, DC has no Federal representation in Congress. Though they informally have representatives to 'influence' federal legislation and can vote on procedural matters. Much like other U.S. territories- namely Puerto Rico. As both DC and Puerto Rico routinely have significant local statehood referendums.

Um, he got one thing historically wrong, South Carolina was technically the first "Rebel" state that would eventually give birth to the Confederacy for the American Civil War. Hey he got all the Texas Facts right lol. Native Texan here and here's another fun fact about Texas- our own State Capital building is taller then the Nation's Capital Building lol. This was done on purpose lol. Another interesting fact, in the USA there is a theme park chain called Six Flags, which originated in Dallas, Texas (it's called Six Flags Over Texas). The Six Flags is a reference to the 6 national flags that have flown over Texas. 1. Spain- Spain did originally own all of Texas and settled here. In fact, San Antonio (home of the Alamo) was settled by Spanish Monks. The Alamo itself is a Spanish Mission. 2. Mexico- It took ownership of Texas after gaining independence from Spain. 3. France- France only owned parts of Eastern Texas but ended up selling it to I think Spain or some other country, I can't remember. 4. Texas Republic- After gaining independence from Mexico, as stated in the video, we became our own nation. 5. USA- We joined the union after going broke as a country. 6. Confederacy- Texas joined the Rebel states because many people were slave owners. But there was a large number of people who wanted to stay with the Union instead, including the one of Texas's most famous historical figures, Sam Houston (city of Houston was named after him). He was one of the heroes who helped Texas gained Independence and key figures in getting Texas into the Union. He strongly opposed leaving the union. At the time he was Texas Governor (think of it this way, Governors are to States as the President is to the USA).

@@TheGhostOf2020 Eh, my memories of Texas History aren't perfect either since it's been almost like 15 years since I took Texas History in college. But I do remember that people just 'kicked him out' or if he was voted out and replaced by someone else. This was an election year after all when the Civil Started. I do think it's why South Carolina was the first to succeed the Union, it was when Lincoln was voted to become President. But yeah I do feel bad for Houston though. Also you have to understand that not every southerner wanted to leave the union either. I had ancestors who weren't slave owners that still fought in the Southern Army because they wanted to protect their homes and family. I am glad slavery is gone in the US, I find it deplorable and evil. Those in the South could have just hired their slaves and offered them sanctuary, but they should have never made them serve them. Still the Civil War was overall a sad affair and you still see the ramifications of it to this day still.

@@lindsey1639 George Wallace was a Democrat and supported Jim Crow policies past by Democrats. The Democrats didn't change their ideology, just the NARRATIVES of how to MANIPULATE the masses by using MSM and Intelligence Agencies to keep people programmed through Propaganda techniques. The same techniques used by SOCIALIST of the past (NAZI'S) and the new SOCIALIST of the present (Democrats). Ideology doesn't change, just the NARRATIVES and PROGRAMMING. This is one reason for trying to destroy HISTORY, so people can't understand who created it. I'm not saying that there isn't or was racism it exists in every corner of the WORLD, it's not a regional phenomenon exclusive to the SOUTH, it's an human issue born from ideology that still pushes it for power to keep people slaves and sheep. One GUARANTEE of being a SHEEP is that they always will be led to the Slaughterhouse. Free thinking is only way of freeing yourself of it and researching on your own and not learning of Indoctrination and Programming of the mind. Glad you still love Alabama but slaves weren't just created from the SOUTH, they had to first be captured and enslaved by their own tribes to be sold 1st to people that bought them. All cultures were at one point enslaved by their own people but the US was first to work to Free them and say it wasn't right and still isn't right to this day happening still around the WORLD. Just an example of his Westcoast bias (not that its negative, just less informed on some Eastern states), while Maryland has high population of wealthy African Americans, to say they have "the richest, highest education black ppl" leaves out the policy brutality that currently exists, and the institutionalized racism that has existed, including when Maryland was segregated. Because of all of this, Baltimore is one of the most dangerous, poverty stricken cities in this country. Other times, he summarizes a state by one city, like Michigan he describes just Detroit. I don't think he meant anything malicious by it, he just knows less about certain areas so keep that in mind.
