Near where I grew up in Birmingham, AL, there is an old Catholic church and currently the priest there is a Vietnamese man who became a priest in Vietnam and was transferred to the US by the Catholic leaders when the old priest passed away. I got to meet him when the company I worked for was installing some new speakers to replace the old ones from like 1970. He has such a fascinating story of how he ended up moving to the US and is one of the nicest people I've ever met.

As a Filipino coffee-lover, I think visiting Vietnam is now on my bucket list. Their cuisine is highly underrated and in my honest opinion, probably one of the best (if not THE best) in Southeast Asia (probably could make a case for Indonesian cuisine being better, but whatever.) Out of all the cuisines in SE Asia, which are almost entirely rice-and-noodle-based, they definitely have the best dishes centered around *bread.*

I'm Vietnamese immigrated to the US when I was young. I noticed in some area of Saigon there's graffiti that weren't common when I was young. I hope the Vietnamese govt. crack down on vandalism like graffiti and clean up those dirty graffiti cuz it make the city look ghetto. I live in the US and we got tons of graffiti in city area is really bad.

Haha

Looks like you had a blast!! Surprisingly, the cuisine that seems the closest to Korean is none of their immediate neighboring countries, but rather its tropical/bayou cousin down south. O_O

Hey Barbs, I hope you get to visit Kuching in Sarawak, Malaysia Borneo anytime in the future. I remembered watching your Malaysia episode in the past and it'd be fun if you explore the local food and culture and visit Borneo Cultural Museum or The Rainforest World Music Festival in June which is held every year.

I went to Da Nang last July. Number 1, I was on a budget and the cheapest flight out of my hometown of Daegu (I'm an English teacher in Korea), number 2, I prefer the relatively smaller cities to the big cities. Da Nang was a very chill place. It was probably the best trip I have taken in several years. I hope I get to see more of the country.

even though being born and raised in Saigon, I would recommend 1st time travellers to visit Hue-Danang-HoiAn or Hanoi-NinhBinh-HalongBay area instead of Saigon-VungTau if you would like to learn of our unique culture, history and nice scenery. Saigon has more variety of cuisines though.

Saying Saigon is hectic is like saying Germany is pricey, I mean yes but in its proximity are the Scandinavian countries. Saigon is nothing compared to Hanoi! in terms of being hectic

I've been to almost 80 countries and Vietnam is in my top 10, it ticks so many boxes... Great natural sights, amazing food, good cultural history, low prices, friendly locals when they're not trying to scam you but if you're prepared you're fine... It seems chaotic but everything just works
