It’s a mystery.
Not so many comments but quit fun to read them. We know from the beginning this movie haven't been made to be "historical accurate" and he deviate, lol. I't's a romantic comedy in costumes ( amazing costumes by the way ) it happen they choose to integrate Willie, Romeo, and Juliet in it, ok, it's a fun romantic comedy. he never attempt to be something else I may say, What 's the formula ? Haters are here to hate ? Go to drink wine, get chilled.

Hello, I am curious to heard why you find my comment disgusting ;)@@hannibalburgers477
Geoffrey Rush's is performance is just about the only appealing thing in "Shakespeare in Love," an otherwise dreary, unconvincing, and most importantly, UNFUNNY injection of modern sensibilities into the world of 16/17th century England. One of the more irritating details is the movie's reference to the villain's plantation in Virginia, ignoring that the first English settlement in North America post-dated the time the plot is set in by several years.

WildwoodClaire1 I agree. The ONLY reason I watched this movie was because of Geoffrey Rush.

thoughts about colonizing had 100 years before that time. attempts were made a decade before romeo was written. the whole movie was a joke about the whole period anyway. suspension of believe was obviously required from the get go. try it sometime and youll enjoy more movies and life itself

Somewhere along the line, you left your sense of fun behind. Can't you tell irreverent comedy (with a very moving heart) from a solemn bio-pic?
If Gwyneth Paltrow wasn't in it it might have been enjoyable to watch. God, anyone would have been better than her.
