    Geoff is in a class of his own, a very humble human being, and a true friend to those that know him, his teaching skills are second to none, and his advice on life, and self defence is renowned world wide. Take it from me, Geoff is as good as they come as an inspirational martial artist, self defence expert, and those that know him, are blessed to have him in their life. Craig

    I never thought to push off with my foot like a runner when doing that foot twist...That explains why my strikes didn't feel that powerful...Geoff rocks.

    Take a look at "double hip" striking mechanics. There are a couple of videos from Geoff's long time collaborator Peter Consterdine on KZread that give a good breakdown. It feels weird to start (largely because he is showing it in a very exaggerated form, so you can see it), but eventually, the penny will drop, and it becomes just another tool.

    First martial artist to admit FEAR is the biggest stumbling point in reality fighting. No one before or after him is honest enough to admit it. - he also tried telling everyone about the importance of ground fighting too but until the UFC came along no one would listen to him.

    Geoff's material is really good and practical. I seen criticisms for his "Real punching" series, but what many fail to realize it's more about functional for the street (not sport).

    Any self-protection system that uses punching is flawed, which is why Geoff Thompson used knuckle dusters in his time on the doors and people who know what they are talking about use, "Jap Slapping". The operative term being, "Slapping".

    Also the leg drive no longer works with the technique if you swing on a pivot, so then you do this weird push thing which is more pushy and less powerful and can be replaced with a step or step off

    Wait a minute. He says his rear cross punch is different from the boxers cross or straight right as some schools call it. I've trained in boxing at boxing gyms and was always told to push off the flat bottom of the rear foot to transfer leverage force and then continue by twisting the ball of the rear foot and twisting the hips and shoulders ad well as your extending the rear arm and punching through your intended target area. I've watched the video over and can't understand what Geoff is doing differently in his rear punch. To me he's using the same sequencial body mechanics as Canelo or Pacquiao or Tommy Hearns.

    Speed is an important part of power too, along with weight, im not sure how good these alternate rotation are, they are heavier but slower, and they might feel more powerful but may be more pushy, need to test.

    I was in a situation when a guy who had about 4 or five friends with him was being racist and stopped me. I noticed he had a screwdriver driver in his hand so I remembered Geoffs instructions of putting up guard. Before I could try talking my way out of situation the guy tried to attack me. I automatically did similar move to his solar plexus and stopped him in his track. I then ran for it. I know that if I went for power move instead of speed I would have got me messed up bad probably killed.

    @kris9qa Explosive full trunk and body rotation on those power punches, would not want to get hit by this guy. Does he have any tutorials on training for developing those punches, like medicine ball plyometrics, etc.? Would love to add to my very small repertoire of those.

    Im suspicious its going to be more pushy less violent/explosive but it could be heavier and harder, just trying it briefly. It seems less practical regardless

  • @TheDeluar
    @TheDeluar14 жыл бұрын

    By the way when I mentioned speed being more important than power in the situation I once found myself. I do not mean speed with no power at all. I mean sometimes a little less power is prefered if it means you get to hit before being hit. If I went for just speed I would not have been able to stop that guy, yet if I tried to go for loads of power that screwdriver wud've been in my face or neck before I could make contact. Luckily the guy pulled his arm out for power/momentum so telegraphed move

    Yea that alternate swing on its own gets more power than a hip rotation with a central pivot but it just doesn't fit in with anything else, its inferior, its like a short cut that gets you less later on. Combo's and speed with that pivot are god awful, the leg drive doesnt work hence you recommending a pushy version to fit in with the borked mechanics. Worth knowing though, thanks, might have some limited use

    if you dont follow through deeply with the strike the pad wont move much. if the strike is fast and has body weight behind it doesnt have to go deeply into the target to damage. 2-5 cm. without gloves this is enough. try it barefist on yr partners belly, chest...

    If you add something to boxing to enhance it, you better make damn sure its worthy because boxing is already highly effective, and traditional arts are well known for being ineffective or broken, so make sure you get it right otherwise you just regressed rather than progressed

  • @Dan0101010101010
    @Dan01010101010104 жыл бұрын

    Punching as if you were a solid mass is inferior regarding the "hara" idea, good for a beginner again a short cut you get good form fast. But ultimately more pushy and slow, seems better if you are noob, because you get power quite fast its easier to do, but its a flawed inferior way of doing things. Its effective its just not as effective as other methods. Its a nice concept to keep in mind

  • @Rtystic
    @Rtystic15 жыл бұрын

    I'm surpised by although he is a fairly decent sized man...his punching power seems average..I mean his pads are making some noise when he hits them but notice the pad doesn't move much while the much smaller kid/student of his is holding them..even when Thompson punching with all he's got. When I and many other guys I've trained with over the years hit a pad like that..it's loud and it flys the holders arm back with a violent snap. I would have thought his punching power would be huge. Hmmm

  • @Dan0101010101010
    @Dan01010101010104 жыл бұрын

    Yea I think these guys try to add traditional martial arts to boxing to enhance it, but end up making boxing worse not better, their best tentative claim perhaps is making an individual punch on its own harder, but forgetting the overall effectiveness of the whole game, these guys are spastics, but you can still learn from them
