@Metal Fan Are we certain of that? I have heard such sentiment voiced by Michael and Eddie, but Geoff has always countered that notion. I know it's a real shame what happened here. I still hold that they are the most underrated super band ever. They really had something special going in their prime. At one time they were going to do a film and were bringing on investors for this. That fell through with all their disputing. I dream of one day this group coming together for collaborative projects which herald the greatness they once had.

Actually, DeGarmo was the primary song writer in combination with Wilton and Tate for most of the time he was with the band. He was also the glue that held the band together. He was the one that kept the business side of the band running as President. After the departure of DeGarmo, Queensrÿvche began a very fast downward spiral. The split was only a matter of time.

@@daviddaniel3996 No it is....Scott and Eddie are an amazing rhythm section, Scott always one of the best drum kits ever back in the day and Chris along with Michael were the equal if Dave and Adrian if Maiden, Michael Sweet and Oz from my boys STRYPER (who again just put out album of the year my material with The Final Battle), Alex and Eric from the BEST thrash band of all time Testament, Warren and Robin from Ratt, KK and Tipton from JP. I love Tate but just like Halford he has lead singer disease. I love the Ryche even more than Priest. Just like JP....I think their top 3 albums are Defenders, Screaming and the Ripper led Jugulator. I did not miss Halford and the first couple missing Tate....I did not miss him..... music matters, not just a voice. I love every member of Ryche but truth be told....losing DeGarmmo was HUGE and Mindcrime 2 a total failure. I support the band. Also truth be told...the band were ALWAYS amazing with the fans, Tate very pretentious....same thing with a drummer of a band I truly love with all my heart.....Rush. Alex and Ged we're awesome with fans but Neil a punk Yet, Neil wanted to write books and have fans but those books but to hell with signing a book and shaking the hand of a fan....nah, dude was too good for that. Talk about the height of pretentious. Again the band matters and if you think a guitar player is just another guitar player ....then do you truly appreciate the music made? Example, I love Ozzy but if not for Randy or Jake.... In zzy could NEVER come up with Bark on his ok w let alone the masterpiece known as Diary of a Madman. I like the first album with Zakk but to me he did not play the Jake stuff as well as he did Randy stuff.....the music as n matters , not just a voice

The name Queensryche should go to Geoff. His voice was the band. That's what I feel. As for those who say, "Geoff is a jerk; Geoff is an asshole," Well, here's my take on it: He obviously has a God-given talent that very few people have; a freaking awesome voice. And when you literally spend 30 years surrounded by nothing but people telling you how great you are, it would be almost impossible for ANYONE not to let it go to their head. But I still and will always love Geoff.

Jeff is a good Vocalist and that is all the credit that I will give him. Back in 1990 when I met Queensryche, I only met Scott, Eddie, Michael and Chris. These guys were gentlemen and thankful and considerate to all the people. Jeff on the other hand, stormed thru everyone, went to the Prevost Tour Buss and slammed the Door. On his way to the Tour Bus, Jeff refused to Autograph anything and did not want his picture to be taken with anyone. That alone pissed me off. Back in 1990, Queensryche has never played a show in Duluth, MN., so first impressions do go a long way with a lot of people. I have met a lot of great Musicians during my Life (Motley Crue, Firehouse, Winger, Cinderella, Faster Pussycat, Poison, KISS, Sammy Hagar, Godsmack, Warrant, Dokken, Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Tesla, Trixter, Metallica and Ozzy just to name a few) and I fully understand that People, regardless of status, do have bad days. Having fame and fortune cane be overwhelming at times, but what Jeff did and how he treated people, was completely rude, unprofessional and completely disrespectful. When you are in the Music Industry, you are to take your Fans seriously and show them respect and gratitude. Here we are 31 years later and I remember that day, like it was yesterday. What a complete disappointment and I still feel sorry for those people who wanted something so simple, such as a Autograph, or even a picture.

One of my most memorable head banging days in the 80's was working my way to the front of the crowd at the legendary Santa Monica Civic to get a 1x fist bump from Tate (opening for Yngwie Malmsteem). I was beyond stoked after pulling it off. I was the first in my So Cal neighborhood to find QR and at 54, certainly one of the last to still enjoy them as much or more as I did then. TY original QR for the countless hours of entertainment and those still to come. ✌🏼

Its really effed up how they pushed Tate out. One of the reasons WHY the band mates did that (IMHO) was for writing credits and publishing credits. Tate was the driving force behind the craftmanship of Queensryche, and a lot of times that bothers other bandmates. Publishing credits and rights goes a LONGGGGGGG way in the music industry.

my bf at the time used to chill and drink with Scott Weiland and a few of their close friends. Scott interestingly enough didn't really like talking about his own music as opposed to other bands, bands that he praised and bands that he flat out said were sh*t. He just happened to bring up Geoff, he said that he didn't know Geoff and never met the guy but that he had an amazing voice and he felt that he was a seriously underrated musician. He said the band f*cked up bcuz of poor marketing and management. I wonder if Scott was referring to his wife (Geoff's) since she was pretty much running the show at the time before the band fired her and Geoff. It's a he said, she said situation. RIP Scott 🤘

Based on the LONG story told by the other band members, Geoff was a narcissist's narcissist! He and his wife Susan gradually took over control of the entire band in the 90s and 2000s, making ALL the decisions on every aspect of Queensryche, from songwriting, touring, merchandising, legal decisions, etc etc. Supposedly Geoff and Susan froze everyone out, and didnt allow any input into the direction the band was heading. He REFUSED to sing most of their classic songs on tour, focusing only on newer, less popular material. Any time the other bandmates tried to stand up to him or his wife on any of their totalitarian decisions, Geoff would give them the ultimatum "do what we say, or ill quit the band". Then Geoff sold the rights to the Operation Mindcrime concept for a movie, but, as usual, he did it without telling the band. Worse yet, he had set it up so that he alone profited from it, even though it should've been split equally 4 ways. Thats only a few examples, and there are many, many more. Some even worse.

They accepted his leadership because he was business saavy.... BUT, when they all hit certain age, their complexes started to burn deeper and... Nothing more depressive than a No-Leader thinking he can be better than the true leader, and try to take control just because, no more reason than just because. Definitively Geoff at one moment should've hired a "Jerry McGuire" or just beat the $h1t physically out of them to submit them and regain the machine's control... but I guess he did just that for about 30 years until, that breaking day, he must have gotten tired (understandable, he is no 20 anymore...)

DeGarmo was soul and brain of the band, and guitars are the sizzle, the riffs, harmonies... Tate was the alien in the equation. He made it crazy and legit, his voice on top of those melodies, riffs and harmonies was the glorious madness that Queensryche was that I remember through my high-school days. Sure people can rant that new lineup "sounds better", but honestly who gives a fuck? You could get a queensryche cover band of young 20-year olds together and they would sound way better than that, so what does that prove? Nothing. DeGarmo composed queensryche. He played it. Tate sung it. They should have laid the great band to rest once their egos couldn't stay together. It's not a shame, other great bands went through that. Instead, the greedy mediocre cows are trying to cash in on it.

OK kids, there comes a time in almost every band where people can not work with each other due to creative differences. Who was the one snatching peoples Iphones to keep them from taking video? Who was the one telling people in the crowd that they sucked? Take a good listen to Frequency Unknown and the namesake disc released by those who have been the writing core of Queensryche since the departure of Chris Degarmo. I normally do not chime in on things like this but seriously people..... take a break from whatever your world is and breathe in a little reality, if someone can be fired from a band and replaced do you truly think thay had that much of a stake in the brand name from the beginning? if you truly know the history of the band, you know Geoff was a hired gun for the recording of the original EP and had no real interest in staying with the band until a major label deal came along. Yes Geoff ONCE had powerful vocals but his style and direction have changed. The fight for the brand name is all about the ease of marketability of new product. Why should one person have control of it when there are 3 other lifelong, before the introduction of Tate, members still dedicated to the project. For F&#K$ sake people, quit believing the spin of whatever side you choose to takein this situation and look at the facts, This is politics plain and simple, believe whatever side gives the answers that sound best to you instead of doing the research and making your own decision..... that is why the ENTIRE PLANET IS SCREWED, because people believe in the answers handed to them instead of facts and their own point of view. Keep letting everything be handed to you on a sliver platter in false idolatry and you will be nothing more then Soylent Green

Tate HAD a virtuoso voice, and still a good voice, but NO ONE can hit notes they did twenty or thirty years ago...sorry, those are the facts...he ain't what he once was. The only rock singer I have heard that was a virtuoso, (voice and guitar) that has been totally honest about it is Rik Emmett. He used to be abke to hit F#s every night with ease, 14th fret on 1st string of a guitar, but freely admits that before he stopped touring had to tune down an octave....nobody's voice stay 25 forever!

Basically he spoke a lot without saying a thing. Personally I'd love to continue to listen to their music.

The guitars, the voice, the amazing beats, it simply rocked and created a certain state of mind, a nirvana of thought and feeling that reached into the core of your imagination and soul. Queensryche will live on as long as people listen to music. They are timeless. Queensryche 2.0 has some of the musical chemistry. It was a struggle for me to adjust to the band without jeff tate and the voice did not fit the new guys face. Due to my love of the Tate years, i find myself wanting more. Therefore, i keep hoping Queensryche 2.0 will deliver me something i can love. The new rebel yell is decent. It will take me some time to dig the other stuff although the sound is pretty good, better than some of the other stuff since jeff tate left. Looking forward to Tates new recordings.

Makes the fact that Rush has been the same for almost 40 yrs seem all the more amazing. I loved Queensryche back in the day, but they kind of lost me after Promised Land. They are still one of my favorite bands. Maybe someday they can put their ego's aside and they can all get back together Geoff and Chris Degarmo.

Saw his solo tour here in San Antonio a few months ago and my wife and I were just frickin' blown away! Queens... who??? Sorry, there's no Queensryche without Geoff! I'm willing to bet there's plenty of blame to go around...

DeGarmo's departure to Queensryche was what Steve Clark's death was to Def Leppard. Neither band has been the same since losing an indispensable member who was both an awesome guitarist and songwriter.

Their split is part of their story and it is what it is. I'm sure they also wish things would've turned out differently. But we will always have their great music
