Exactly!! I echo your words. Geoff always tells us a story and makes us really hear it and feel it in our hearts. And none of the versions, not even the original, made me even listen twice. On the other hand, it's always good to hear Geoff again and again...

you said it yourself, the whole point of a reaction channel is to be honest with a reaction. just because a song isnt right for you doesn't mean you don't appreciate the talent. the world would be a boring place if everyone liked the same thing. love the reactions keep it up and dont worry about the haters, if there are any. :)

Everyone's ears are different. I tried to hear it the way you were, and just couldn't. I'm a huge fan of Geoff's piano playing, and for me, I adore the delicacy of beginning, offset by his creamy deep tones. But - that's my ears. I wonder if you're reacting, in part, to the jazz chords (?) he's using here. He did depart from the common rendition...

Hey, you're allowed not to like a song! As someone for whom the Simon & Garfunkel version will always be the one I think of first when I hear the title, I really don't think anything else is going to top them. But I do appreciate that Geoff's motto is "If all you're going to do is a note by note copy of the original, why are you bothering to do it at all?". I do love the imagery and some of the lovely harmonies in this one, and the melancholy beginning, but he loses me a little with the 'wind blowing in his hair' verse near the end, LOL. But it's still on my play list for Geoff, although it may be one that I don't always let play through all the way, it depends on my mood.

This song may take a few listens to hear the story he's telling. I think it was one of his best works. No hate though. He doesn't do karaoke so he's not the best artist to listen to if you don't want to hear a different take on a beloved song. Thanks for your reaction.

I love Simon and Garfunkel's version quite well. In fact, I grew up with it. But, Geoff has to put his stamp on every song; including a very low note here or there. Usually, in unexpected places. All in all, it was a great piece. Not his best, IMHO, but well done. Much better than I could do, that's for sure.

You are entitled to your opinion, even when you are wrong. Geoff has said, Why do something someone else has already done?

......and exhale. You can react any way you want. Geoff don't mind. He is telling you a story and it is an other story than Simon & Garfunkels. It can be surprising to hear something that you expect to sound in a certain way and it just don't. When I listen to Geoff I have stoppet guessing what to expect. I only know that it will not be what I think it is going to be.

It’s ok to have your opinion! I think this version is beautiful but it took me a couple of listens to adjust to how different it was 😅

I do like this one from Geoff, but you have every right to your opinion. (There’s one Voiceplay song I don’t like, but since I’m not a reactor you’ll never hear me say which one!) I will point out a couple things about the video. Although you don’t see them represented in the video, all the backing vocals are also Geoff. And Layne Stein flew the steadycam for the recording.

Thank you for the comment, I did realise all the backing vocals were Geoff too, I just felt it was maybe a little too forced when he was solo with the piano. Mad skills though but just didn't work for me 😊

Hate you for having an opinion? Nope, no way. Far too much intolerance in this world. Sounds of Silence was the first album I ever bought, and holds special meaning for me to this day. While I like this arrangement more than you, S&G's is still my favorite.
