Geoff is quite the experience. I've only once in my life come close to feeling what went through me the first time I heard Geoff's voice. He's so very gifted; not only is his range around 5 octaves, but the richness and resonance that he maintains throughout that range is what makes his voice so remarkable. Of course, add in his skill and creativity at musical arrangement (because he arranges his own pieces, as well as about half for the a cappella group he sings with, VoicePlay), and videography (he does that too)... he's just the total package. As is VoicePlay, honestly; they are a group of guys who are just a titanically skilled as Geoff, and this is the best, most fun rabbit hole you'll ever find to run down. Especially at this time of year- VoicePlay tends toward the theatrical, and they make the most of Halloween in their performances. They've done some great covers of music from Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas (with Oogie Boogie's Song being a standout, and also featuring Geoff as the titular character).

Yes, Geoff's resonance and range is what sets him apart. I have a similar range to Geoff, but cannot come close to matching his resonance or ability. I have heard him live without studio tricks, and he is just as good as it appears recorded.

Yes he has that effect on people. And not just females. :) Geoff is the bass in the acapella group VoicePlay. He started to make solo videos during lockdown I think. His latest is Monster Mash, made for Halloween,. He dances in that one too! It shows his fun side.

Welcome to the bass experience known as Geoff! He's a lot to get used to and his bass drops will shock you on a regular basis. That last note is straight from Helm's Deep. Geoff is amazing as a solo artist, but VoicePlay is a must--a cappella at it's finest. I suggest Hoist the Colours and the Halo theme from VP for the WOW factor and Carry On My Wayward Son for the rock sound. In Halo he breaks his low note record with a B0! Blackbird and High and Dry done as solos will give you all of Geoff's incredible 5 octave range.

The first time I heard this it took me back. It took me WAAAY back. My dad used to read The Hobbit to me. We’d finish it and start it over again. This is exactly how I would imagine Thorin sounding, traveling through the caverns, with the other dwarves holding the harmony in the background. This is the version that SHOULD have been in the movie.

Loved your reaction, it's fun to see someone get caught up in the Geoff Castellucci net! His solo House of the Rising Sun came out just before this one, it is outstanding. Voiceplay (you have to go there) is also phenomenal. Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Carrribean 3 will blow you out of the water. I believe they are set to drop another Halloween piece in a week or so.

I reacted exactly the same way you did when you heard this, and I didn't have the excuse of never having heard Geoff before. A combo of it being the most beautiful song from The Hobbit (I'm a diehard Tolkien fan), the gorgeous bass hums, the arrangement, the strings... It all made me tear up the first couple of times I listened. Also, nerd note: the lyrics don't match the movie version exactly - he mixed verses from the two versions of the song that appear in both The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. I think Geoff's a big Tolkien fan himself 😊As for suggestions, I don't think you could go wrong with any of his - Monster Mash just came out for Halloween and is super fun (very different tone from this one), 16 Tons is just incredible, Blackbird shows his full range and is beautiful.

On his solo songs, he often accompanies himself. His covers of 16 Tons and Blackbird are among my favorites. He is bass (as well as arranging about half of their productions) for Voice Play. Since is is October, check out The Oogie Boogie Song to see a sample of his range. But then be sure to check out their version of the Norse saga My Mother Told Me as well as the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Hoist the Colours. They are worthy of a notice. I hope your husband appreciated it!

In my opinion this might be Geoff's masterpiece, mainly because i feel like the song was written for him to sing it. His voice fits perfectly. It has the seriousness that goes well, if not perfectly well, with his voice. Other things he's done are great too, don't get me wrong, but this one is a league of it's own, even for Geoff's standards.

The quiet look of disbelief you had when Geoff started going really low was wonderful. This is the first video I’ve seen of yours but I hope you do (or already have) reacted to others by Geoff or by VoicePlay, where he’s a founding member. When you started out by commenting that "base cover... so we will see how it is"... I knew you hadn't experienced him before. Welcome to the Geoff club. I'm actually very happy you started with this one because you will get to experience as he is gotten even stronger since then. Last year during the lockdowns he started to doing these independent musics separate from his work with Voiceplay... I'm hitting full notifications because I cannot wait to see your reaction to some of his newer works where he demonstrates his range and even continues to work to extend it. Where in spooky season so I would say look up Headless Horseman from last year and compare it to his new Monster Mash that he released this week. He has been singing for over 20 years and he knows exactly what he is doing.

It is so unique especially because you rarely hear bass voices and specifically bass vocalists that are actually willing to fully explore those lower notes which they can reach. They are rare like contraltos such as Diana. And there is not much music written for bass vocalists as far as I know. Notice how think his neck is in comparison to those other three guys. There is so much resonance. I am trying a bit to convince Tank to react to Nemophila´s new single Revive which is coming out on 13th October.

You do realise that the three other guys are all him? Geoff sings all the parts. He has a very wide range of around 5 octaves.

If you need to review Geoff more, look for 'The Ooogie Boogie Song' by VoicePlay. Geoff is the lead, the entire production is superb, and he hits an E1 that could reduce your headphones to Jelly. You and your reviews are a refined delight. We look forward to many more.
