    So happy to see you here, Greg! As I have mentioned on Etsy, you make excellent paints. I am beyond thrilled to include your creations in this line-up. Perhaps down the road, I'll upload a video that focuses only on watercolors from The Prodigal Son's Artists Pigment. Thank you again for generously sending the Afghan Lazurite Premium along with my order! It elevated the entire storyline. I added the link to your Etsy store in the Description box to make it easy for viewers of this film to find their way to you. Have a glorious day!

    Hello Stivi! I'm sorry that I haven't responded MUCH sooner but I had no idea that you left this response - I would be beyond deeply honored and grateful for a video solely based on my paints! I only ask that you wait until sometime in late October to mid November - at the end of September I'm going to deactivate the paints for awhile so I have the time to mull, mull and mull some more to restock all the paints I have had available in the past and about 10 new paints. Right now all my time is spent packaging orders - striving to meet deadlines, striving to get orders shipped quicker. Packaging the Pigments is easy and I get those orders out quite quickly - but I also am now just getting them shipped at the last moment. The paint orders take much more time to finish. Cleaning the pans - in many cases having to re-cure them due to the humidity... But I am going to totally restock my entire line of paints even if I have to shut my shop down completely for a while! Thank you so very much for your offer - I am and will be forever grateful!

    Thanks for this superb video, Stivi. What a lovely range of options. And that ultra-rare Fra Angelico is exquisite! 🤯😍Just a few drops and the rich, saturated ultramarine explodes on to the paper, more than enough to cover the strip with a strong wash. Direct from the DM store, it sells for 98 euro (about $105) per full pan, more than 3.5x as much as their Genuine Lapis Lazuli Afghanistan. And no doubt worth every penny. 😁

It is incredibly smooth and delightful to paint with. Michael Harding's Potter's Pink is equally lovely. Please allow me to share. All these Lapis Lazuli paints are not reflective of a one-time massive financial investment. I also waited until I could buy them and I have been using most of them. @@stiviwonders I just watched the video. Those are amazing WC's. You know, I've yet to buy homemade or small company artisan paints. I must get on the ball. I buy something new every month. Last month I took the plunge and ordered 12 Michael Harding watercolors from DickBlick and I even paid the extra 30 some dollars for next day delivery. Della is now on my list, for sure. That and Roman S. paints. Oh, what I loved about Della's WC paints that you picked out were...Quinacridone Orange. That one was simply otherworldly or something, words fail me on that pigment. Also the INSANE granulating properties of the (hope I remember the name) Violet deep, top row, I said to myself...."James, you must have this". Then all the natural mineral pigments. Oh how the scream with such intensely loud granulating powers! I am all for granulation. Even loved them on Hotpress paper, which I use a lot for my botanical art. I must say, Stivi, as I aforementioned; the clever saying (your mantra for the people) "let the colors speak for themselves", it's genius. Yet, for someone so mild mannered in her FANTASTICALLY produced videos, as silence sets the tone. I can TELL, JUST from your response to me and reading the thoughtful insights which are annotated for each swatch, etc. That YOU ARE an AMAZING wordsmith. I truly mean that. People tell me all the time the same, on Facebook especially, so I recognize a fellow lover of the English language. This is highly appreciated my luv. So many people are just...Vanilla boring. Nobody in particular, just 8n general. You know? Countless folks don't seem to use their brain, or care. Lazy maybe? I don't know. I just want to thank you, sincerely, because it's videos like yours that I truly get excited about. OH, I almost forgot. The research you do, historical or other pertinent facts about the pigments or whatnot...THAT is going the extra mile. It's what I do as well. I probably have 5 or 7 THICK books, just on the historical and scientific aspects of ALL the pigments, including a few books on the pigments used in Asia or "Chinese" pigments. They still sell the tried and true pigment chunks from veg and mineral and saps, like yellow from the highly toxic gamboge tree. It's the BEST yellow ever, rich. However, making greens with it are a treasure all its own! Thanks Stevi, James

In a few weeks, there will be another blue watercolor video and that will showcase a new Lapis Lazuli watercolor from a brand in Europe. It is not new but they're replacing their current pigment with an "even more intense lapis," according to them. We'll see how that looks like soon. The ones published here are some of the most reliable Lapis Lazulis out there for a world of applications such as heraldry art, illumination, calligraphy, and watercolor painting. If you'll notice, I didn't use the word "compare or comparison" or even "which is better" in this video (or anywhere on the channel) because those invite unnecessary division or taking brand sides. That takes away from the goal which is to celebrate the beauty of these Lapis Lazuli watercolors, especially Genuine Fra Angelico Blue from Della Magna Watercolors.

There will be some instructional painting videos down the road using Magnetite and other pigments from Luca of Della Magna. Thank you for mentioning Elisabetta! I am an absolute introvert that's why I have not said "hello" to her yet but I have heard so many great things about her from some viewers. They're so gracious and that says a lot about the positive energy that Elisabetta is spreading out there. I hope and would love to connect with her one of these days! Thank you again for being here!

    I keep a nice stock of Michael Harding's Lapis Lazuli Blue 15ml tubes because of its pigment performance, luminosity, and vibrancy. It is a sophisticated Lapis Lazuli. The last one called Fra Angelico Blue, as mentioned in the video, is the best form of Lapis Lazuli. The purification process is an art by itself. I recommend for you to look up online about how Fra Angelico Blue is extracted and you'll be amazed!

    Thank you! I've used the one from Stoneground a while back. A. Gallo has a new Lapis Lazuli as well as Roman Szmal. Kremer's didn't make it to this list either because I used up my pan. I have an A. Gallo video coming up that will showcase her new Lapis Lazuli pigment. If time permits it, maybe I'll make a capsule video on Roman Szmal's new Lapis Lazuli. Or perhaps in time, I will film an updated video. Aside from being of excellent quality, I also love supporting brand owners, commercial or artisanal, to have impeccable manners or value systems. When it comes to my tools and videos, I don't only invest money. I also make sure that I am supporting decent human beings. ;-)

    You are inspiring me to upload the film on A. Gallo blues sooner! Michael Harding’s Lapis Lazuli is wonderfully-rich. Can’t go wrong with that one! If you are in the US, Blick offers the best price for it. Also, I highly recommend messaging Della Magna about Fra Angelico Blue. If it helps, the description box down below has a “sweet gift” from the owner. It is still 10% savings! I highly encourage shopping on his website so he doesn’t incur the horrible amounts of fees that Etsy charges him.

    @@stiviwonders ohhhhh, Im absolutely in love with that video, thank you so much for such aesthetics. Dragons blood looks like schmincke`s volcano red, only that the granulation is less crazy, but the hue seems to be very close to volcano red. Quin orange is also interesting - so bright, like flame :)) it would be interesting to compare your swatch of quin orange with nevskaya palitra - "orange", PO64 if im not mistaken....frankly speaking I have a problem with quin gold (ds hue) - apart from mixing it with quin coral to get something like burnt sienna, but brighter and more saturated - i have no idea, where to use it. Same with quin burnt orange - interesting color on its own, but...the only idea which came to my mind was mixing it with ds french ultramarine, coz it empathizes its granulation (well, say which non-gran. paint cant empathize french ultramarine, haha)...

    Hello! The video on these two Lapis Lazuli pigments from Roman Szmal is on queue. The recent addition appears bolder than the Lazurite one and is congruent with what one would expect from a Lapis Lazuli watercolor. Both are beautiful though and can be useful in a variety of ways.

    Wow. Great collection there. Thank you for sharing. Lapiz Lazuli is really diverse basing on these swatches. Now, the question is, which is the best hue or should i ask, what is the standard shade of Lapiz Lazuli?

  • @stiviwonders

    @stiviwonders

    Glad you enjoyed the video! Fra Angelico Blue is definitely the best form. It goes through a special, long, and laborious purification blue that earned Lapis Lazuli its "King of Blue" status. Its purity of tone is unmatched. As for "standard" shade, the correct answer is it depends on the source, grind, grade and handling process. Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan is different from Lapis Lazuli found in other parts of the world. I used "standard" in the video as a way to emphasize the intense, luminous blue that is typically expected from Lapis Lazuli. Based on this, some of the paints featured in the video didn't meet that "usual expectation" but it is also worth noting that this is because of varying grade in Lapis. They are not inferior, they are just in a different league. Also, now we know that most Medieval and Renaissance paintings that showcased this natural ultramarine as centerpiece of their art actually used Fra Angelico Blue. As always, I am glad to see you here! Thank you for watching!
