Gentle Giants: Is it really The only food you will ever need to feed your pet?

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Pet food review of Gentle Giants. This food is designed and marketed by the actor that played "Robin" in the batman show. I came across this food while doing my normal shopping at my local Walmart. I didn't even know this food existed, and the crazy packaging drew me in. I guess the marketing worked because I've now done this full ( ish) review.

We have been using Gentle Giants kibble intermittently for at least 7 years. The reason we used other brands was because we found them on sale. We initially tried GG on two senior dogs who were about 12 years old. The larger dog of the two had begun to lose hair. She also had tumors. Immediately they both began to thrive. The hair returned on our larger dog. She was able to move much better too. After several months the dogs did succumb to death the bigger dog first. I honestly feel that GG gave us those last years in which the dogs were able to enjoy their time. We are now feeding three large dogs this same food. Among premium dog foods we consider it to be reasonably priced. We’ve been happy with it. Considerably the recalls by so many foods we are glad Gentle Giants has never failed us.

I was feeding my Jack Russell Fromms for years and switched over to GG after I talked to Burt Ward on the phone. Him and his wife started this company. We talked for 45 minutes on the phone. After talking to him I could clearly tell how much they cared about dogs and their health so I decided to switch my Jack Russell over to GG. He loves it.

Any ways that was 7+ years ago she is almost 10 years old now and in perfect health condition. She has never had any health issues her entire life still runs and plays does small hikes. and can even pull me on my skateboard still shes about 120 lbs for the last 6 years Her stool has always been healthy as well with this food always solid

Been feeding this to my 7 y.o. GSD her entire life and she's the epitome of health. Still runs and plays like a puppy with smaller, younger dogs. I'm sold on it. We do also feed her our fat trimmings when we have steak about once a week, but it's not much. She's a grazer and eats twice a day when she feels like it.

I also got a rescue cat a year ago and immediately began feeding her the Gentle Giants cat food. She was a little overweight and has lost a little, which is a good thing because she's way more active now and had a slight skin condition that has cleared up about 90%. Again, I'm sold on this brand.

My friend has two large dogs that had lumps, tumors, hair loss and no energy. GG after around 30 days after switching to it the lumps shrunk to all but nothing the hair filled in and was soft and full and the energy levels exploded with the getting older large dogs playing and going out more and enjoying being an active part of the family again. I thought they had various types for dogs ages so that surprised me, I know they have at least one canned version also.

I started feeding my Giant Schnauzer, 1yr old, puppy, Gentle Giants dry kibble, salmon and mix it with the wet salmon, (two table spoons with water, to make a gravy) and add the kibble. She had been on Royal Canin (supposedly the best) since birth and we saw a difference within two weeks. She is regular, no more gut issues and firm and solid poop (sorry to be gross!) My baby is THRIVING. A patient of mine turned me on to Gentle Giants. Price does not equal QUALITY with dog food! Gentle Giants has been a GAME CHANGER. We rolled the dice and hit the JACKPOT with Gentle Giants; they are the real deal!!

My friend shared her incredible experience with this food in her dog. I do have large dogs. My elder was started to show signs of lethargy and hips etc. I started using it and he within a month switched up and lived to 15 years of age. I have all my babies on it. They love and thrive!!! Great food! My babies never have any health issues. I have had fur babies for 40 years and I have never seen a better health, skin, coat response to any food like this one. I highly reccomend. He started it because he hated that Great Danes died so young. He was thoughtful in creating something over years that would make a difference. I think the packaging is fun and out of the norm. However it has gone up $10t in price. Buy from chewy not amazon. Amazon is over $20 more than chewy. Just a suggestion.

Other than her routine vet visits, which she loves, she's never had any medical problems. GSD's are known to have some gastrointestinal problems, but we've noticed that the ONLY time she gets these is when visiting family leaves (she's such a sweet soul) but it lasts less than a day. I will feed Gentle Giants for LIFE!

I forgot to add that she's at a perfect weight, and I don't know if this is a tribute to the food or not, but she's a "grazer". We feed her twice a day and there is usually food in her bowl. She will grab a bite of food every now and then, but gobbles up the majority on her own schedule. We always joke that her "loves of life" are in order; Laser pointer (just like a cat), garden hose, ball (or toy), then food. LOL

I've been feeding this to my dog for a year or two. Now they've changed the size of the kibble. It's very small like for little dogs. I thought it was a mistake until I called Chewy. They told me they went back to their original size kibble. I think he swallows a lot of it whole now without chewing. He stops eating , like he's waiting for it to get out of his throat. I wish they would have left it the size it was. So it is the magic dog food? It's still cooked to high temperature for processing so I don't know how many good thing get cooked out of the food. That's what I've read about kibble it's the High cooking temperature gets rid of all the good stuff that dogs need in their gut. Sure is a lot of reading on the bag. How much does that cost ?

  • @AnimalDocRea

Yeah, I don't think its a magic food. In fact I dont think there is any such thing as a magic food, and if the company tells you it is that's a little suspect to me. If it works for your pet then I would try maybe soaking the kibble so it is soft and more easy to chew?

I guess my question for him would be did he have a veterinary nutritionist help formulate his food since it does not fit into established perameters. There are many people who love animals and have the best of intentions but if they do t surround themselves with those trained and with appropriate knowledge, there intentions may inadvertently fall short. I always have an open mind though, so I can be convinced with a good argument.

I ordered 2 different bags of Gentle Giant for my 4 dogs. They been in Pedigree since puppies. Now I decided to upgraded the quality of their food I don’t even know what that really mean. For last 30 years I’ve search dog food reviews n the unfortunate part that is no one really know what best for dog to eat. Perhaps that the reason some people decided to feed their dog home made. Funny, many years ago the industry tell to people not to feed dog of the table. My vet told me that she feed all her dogs Purina. I asked why? She replied Purina who started dog food industry 100 years ago n they’ve been in the business for awhile. I don’t mean u have to feed your dog Purina. My point is that if your dog like the food that’s good, regardless what brand u choose. The sad part that the dog doesn’t get to choose what food to eat, people do.

Transitioned her to Pedigree Puppy and thought all was well however she vomits at least once a week, gassy daily eats her poop, and constantly eats grass. I know grass eating is normal on occasion however this is daily. This leads me to believe that she has an upset stomach daily and not getting adequate nutrition. If the fat % is the set back for you on this food please advise what can be incorporated additionally because overall… the ingredients are by far better then the current puppy food my puppy is consuming. I was expecting a little more detail or discussion for an 11 min video. Can we talk about the ingredients?? Just a suggestion?

All life stage is a legal definition and defines what the food is legally meant to feed. Marketing does not dictate what life stage. This is a common mistake people make and pet food companies use this to diversify their portfolio by making a less than ideal food that they can sell to many people. So yes, I am against all life stage foods and most people that understand nutrition and pet food marketing machine are as well. That’s why I’m pointing these little tricks out to you. I suggest you become familiar with my foundational playlist on how to read the legal verbiage of pet food labels. There may be some things in there that surprise you.

I recently started feeding my seven-year-old Doberman and three year-old Doberman, gentle giant dog food. I did it because I love my family members and I want them to live along healthy life. I took them off pedigree and all of their expensive, supposedly healthy treats. My seven year old Doberman runs around like a puppy. When he gets up and sits down, there’s no sighs or groans whatsoever. In my opinion, I don’t even see how you could call this review. You were negative from the get-go and you did not even call the manufacturer to get information that you could’ve used to give a fair and unbiased view. I found your review to be quite condescending at times.

  • @AnimalDocRea

    @AnimalDocRea

It’s not a review, it’s a lesson on how to pull out marketing from nutrition. What is right for you pet is dependent on your pets labs, and your personal relationship with your veterinarian. For a senior, it would likely be appropriate to compare against the senior guidelines from SACN as described in the linked text. I’m sorry you found it condescending. I have no emotional attachment to any food, and I actually encourage pet owners to do the same. That emotional attachment is often what allows marketing to cloud judgement.

Kibble is a bad choice in general for your pet. They need 10% of their diet to be offal like liver. Also fat is healthy for dogs, dogs aren't prone to heart disease like humans are. If you are feeding your dog kibble of any brand, you are doing your dog a great disservice. Would you like to eat a diet of only kibble? Why would you think that's what you should give your dog then. Look up mallard reaction foods, you do not want 80% of your diet or your dog's to consist of it

Disclaimer: I've never heard of this food until today and have only cats. Back when I was much younger I had a dog who lived to be 22 years old. Fed commercial food then my own mix that lacked any meat (an ignorant mistake on my part) He died of a tumor. Maybe would have lived to 26 if I'd recognized canines need animal protein back then. That being the case I'm not really surprised at the 25+ age claims. You panned this food because of its packaging. Who cares what the packaging looks like if it is good food? Government suggestions (and that is what they are) are not all that trustworthy. Look at all the different regulations for human diets and how well those have worked out over the years. Government is not God. They make mistakes. Typically more than regular people do. Plus there really is no true regulation on pet food; hence the great amount of really crappy stuff out there being pushed on people. The government agency is backed by big business whose main concern is PROFIT, not the health of animals. There are articles and videos on this fact. Probably the best indicator of how much fat a canine should be eating would be to compare the fat ratio in a prey animal wild dogs are existing on. Is the fat content in Ward's food a loft off from that? Well, okay then if so. Will I be feeding my cats their cat food? Probably not as I'm not a fan of pea protein for cats and would prefer any plant matter be no more than 2%. Still, I would use it over something like Fancy Feast or Friskies any day.
