The idea that “we” (insert ethnicity/ nationality) as a people cannot commit genocide because we are obviously good/right/have ourselves been victims is so insidious and evil. We in the US apply it to our history when we deny that we committed a ruthless genocide against indigenous Americans over a period of centuries. Or when we deny that slavery as practiced here was a form of genocide. Or when we ignore the killing of tens of thousands of Koreans, Vietnamese, Afghans, Iraqis because they or their government stood in the way of our hegemony. It is no wonder that the US government refuses to condemn what is taking place in Gaza. To do so would be to acknowledge that we have done the same evil throughout our history. So both parties support the idea that Israel is a democracy like the U.S. is a democracy and democracies don’t commit genocide.

Excellent analysis and points, this should be elevated; have you sent the transcript/summary of your thesis anywhere? It should be printed in a major publication. Thank you for your conscientiousness, research and insights.
