Genoa, known as Genova in Italian, is a vibrant port city located in northern Italy. As one of the country's major economic hubs and the capital of the Liguria region, Genoa has a rich history, cultural heritage, and maritime significance. Here are some key aspects of Genoa:
Historical and Cultural Heritage:
Old Town (Centro Storico): The historic center of Genoa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its narrow alleyways, medieval architecture, and charming squares showcase its historical significance.
Palazzi dei Rolli: These palaces are a group of prestigious residences that were once used to accommodate important guests and dignitaries during the Republic of Genoa era.

In the church Chiesa del Gesù that you shooted at 8:05 at Matteotti square (behind the newspaper kiosk) there are some paintings by Rubens and by Giandomenico Piola

@@taniaandreea about Genoa, there are some places inside the town and close to it that paradoxically stay off the turisti trail. So Genoa is not the first stage for a tourist who wanna visit Italy, but even about a Genoa trip, really there are some placese that every tourists go to visit (because anyway Genoa has grown up very much for the last 20 years about tuorism) and some other that nobody know. For your next trip to Genoa, I suggest you: - visit all the walls and forts around the town. It's the best heritage of walls and forts after the great China wall. There are so many ways to reach them: you can rent a bike (I suggest an e-bike because the forts are all on the top of some hills behind and very close to the town) and bike along the dirt road that bring you to the hinterland of Genoa, where you could find some tipical restaurants (osterie o trattorie) and where you could taste ravioli, trofiette al pesto and many other inland specialities. Because Genoa is not only a sea town. Otherwise you can take a ride on the funicolar Zecca - Righi and take a walk from the last stop to the way of forts. Finallly you can wait some years: the municipal council is about to build a cable car that leaves from the Principe subway station to the top of one hill where is locate one of the forts. - visit the city parks and the historic villas. Genoa is so large city, so you can move by train from a cape to the other (from east to west and vice versa). I don't recommend you the bus (except for short trips) because from Nervi to Voltri (two last neighborhoods on a side and the other of the town) you have 30 km of city to travel. There are some suburban and metropolitan lines and you can take a ride by train within the municipal perimeter with the same ticket or card that you use for subway, bus, funiculars and public elevators. Mocing this way, you can visit: Parchi di Nervi (Nervi Park), in the east part of the town; Villa Pallavicini (in the West part of the town); Villa Duchessa di Galliera (in the West of the town). - visit all the public transportation system, that imho it worths a visit. Genoa is also a verticale town, rich of hills and hilly neighborhoods. And, as you saw, the town develops on lenght, because it is constrained between the mountaines and the sea. For this reason, the city has developed a diversified public transport system and you can find many different means of travel, some of which are also very original: boats, train, bus, funiculars, elevetors. I see that you visited ascensore di castelletto (one of the best), but i suggest you to take a ride on the Montegalletto elevator (very next to Principe railway station). You will understand why when you will do it. Take a ride on the "trenino di Casella" too: a small railway that departs from Piazza Manin ( a centrale square) and rides under the forts and walls I talked you about before. This trine remind a far West small train, riding through the hills. - Go to the stadium for a match of Genoa cfc 1893, the most ancient football team in Italy. The stadium is the temple of football in Italy, because is obiouvsly the oldest. Genoa is one of the most glorious football clubs in Italy, founded by the English in 1893: it brought football to Italy. - visit all the historical center: esplorare the details (the door, the small corners of many palace where are located small votive aedicules, the museums, the old port, the "caruggi" (the narrow halleys) that Fabrizio De André (one of the best italian folk singersongwriters, born in Genoa) spoke about in his songs. - Visit the natural History museum (in the downtown), close piazza della Vittoria. - if you visit Genoa at Xmas time, don't forget to visit the Christmas artistic chreces: Genoa had, in XVIII century, a school of artistic chreces, called "Maragliano school". the most beautiful, imho, are: San Bartolomeo della Certosa Church (you can reach it with the subway, getting off at Brin station); Madonnetta Church (you can reach it by funicular Zecca-Righi, getting off the Madonnetta station); San Desiderio chrece (you can reach it by bus, from Brignole railway station to the last stop of the ride). There are so many chreces....and so many other underrated and unknown things to do in this town...it is impossible to describe them in this post. I hope I have intrigued you and that you come back soon!
