Genius of Britain Episode 3 HD

"The third programme in the series looks at the scientific titans of the 19th century, whose drive and ambitions created the railways, discovered electricity and devised one of the most explosive ideas ever: evolution. James Dyson looks at the life of Michael Faraday, the impoverished son of a blacksmith who became obsessed with electricity and gave us energy at the flick of a switch. Kathy Sykes explores the many achievements of Lord Kelvin, who amassed over 70 patents, wrote the laws of thermodynamics and was responsible for the first transatlantic telegraph cable."

Whoa! This documentary appears almost "Anti-Tesla" as it describes the progress and success of electricity! Did an adult review this video prior to release? They might need to do so again! Thanks for sharing and the very best of luck!

6:30 'As I move the magnet through the coil, I create an electric charge' No. Charge is not created, charge is motivated into action. A current is created *not* a charge. It's not a small difference.

I guess we need to give thanks to the many superficial folks for reducing competition so the few can rise to the top and make meaningful contributions. It's thanks to them that others rise. Reduced competition. There's a positive side to everything I suppose ...

WRONG! Thompson did NOT design & build the first hydroelectric power station at Niagra Falls. That was accomplished by Nikola Tesla with financing from Westinghouse. HOW could somebody get that wrong or worse yet totally ignore the historical facts that Tesla was the very first to transmit AC currents at long distances? This program seems to be "British biased" & not interested in actual scientific historical facts. Maxwell contributed to communications but again, TESLA was a the very first to demonstrate its practicality. Despite the "legend", the myth that Marconi "invented" radio, the U.S. Supreme Court determined, in 1943 & only ten days after the death of Tesla, that Marconi was NOT the inventor of radio considering that he had "borrowed" at least 10 of Tesla's registered patents to do so.

"In 1893, Thomson headed an international commission to decide on the design of the Niagara Falls power station. Despite his belief in the superiority of direct current electric power transmission, he endorsed Westinghouse's alternating current system which had been demonstrated at the Chicago World's Fair of that year. Q: Long time ago there were apelikes who started fighting against wild animals as tigers and panters and came out of the trees? But also: There were apelikes who ate the meat of such wild animals, and that influenced also the evolution of brains, while the apelikes who stayed in the trees had another diet? Or not?

I'm fascinated how ancient civilizations that have thrived long before Europe had any significance accept perhaps the Greeks, but than suddenly everything have changeg as if overnight. Most if not all the greatest of inventions are white, no hunger, poverty, plague, war, religion, could have stop it, even though the whites were in lesser numbers than most great nations, yet despite of it all, this relatively small race have prevailed against ALL ODDS. **fascinating**.

This documentary is called Genious of Britain and it is obvious that the story of British scientists will be told. Nobody is expecting from you to tell stories of others, but you referred Marconi and Einstein somewhere in the doc. The question is why Tesla wouldn't be referred during Niagra Falls part for the ac current and for the radio signal? I still don't understand this understanding which ignores Tesla.

Actually it was Hertz who invented radio. Tesla developed much of what became transmitting radio technology. But, it was Marconi who produced the first complete viable working system of radio transmitting equipment for the purpose of communication. Tesla at the time was developing radio technology for remote control purposes. This link is to Tesla's own paper, note the last paragraph. en(dot)wikisource(dot)org(slash)wiki(slash)On_Light_and_Other_High_Frequency_Phenomena

I would say the fact that black people were thought of as inferior until recently and that they could not even get an education made it very hard for them to make a notable impact. And even if let's say a black man invented something, a white man would just take credit for it.
