Interesting restoration. I wish I could re-assemble an internal combustion engine without the use of a torque wrench. I wonder how many hours service this lovely little engine will give now, compared to how much longer it will last with the use of a slightly better set of tools.

Just think about old cars engine running 1million miles without any torque wrench in that time.

A torque wrench isn't going to fix a clapped out engine, it wouldn't matter if all of the bolts were torqued just right, all of the parts are far beyond OE tolerances. Plus both the engine and the gearbox were full of water, so you have corrosion to deal with on top of that. To do it right, everything would have to be replaced. Crank, piston, rod, valves. Bored and sleeved the block, milled the head, cut new valve seats, etc. You'd spend ten times more than the engine was worth in parts alone, and another in labor. You can buy one of those 5.5 horse engines new for under $300. There's nothing wrong with a shade tree rebuild, especially if you can't afford a new one. If it only makes it a few more months before it throws a rod? Who cares, you got several months out of a clapped out engine that was destined for the scrap heap anyway for not that much money and labor.

Machine clean and like new - environment dirty and poisoned with the old oil... next day you will drink ground water from there or eat some fruits on that ground...
