Geneva Motor Show 2018 Part 1 | Fully Charged

Ғылым және технология

Jonny Smith takes us on a whirlwind tour of the Geneva Motor Show. Just 5 years ago, an electric car being unveiled or launched would have been a novelty.
Now it's standard procedure.

They are splitting it into episodes, because a lot of people complained that watching 45 minute long shows was too time consuming. I don't mind that, I usually need to go to the bathroom after 30 minutes anyway haha.

Is it just me or am I thinking FullyCharged will be bigger than TopGear and the Grand Tour by 2022 ? All I can say is the presenting is top class, Jonny knows when to apply humour and drop the facts. Nothing worse than someone trying to be funny, none of that here. Well done guys.

That's a very kind comment, thank you. For starters the Grand Tour is over, they are not making any more. Top Gear will continue I'm sure, but as to whether Fully Charged can compete with a massive organisation like the BBC, I think we've got a long way to go yet. That said we are experiencing incredible growth, we are just struggling to keep up with everything.

There were a few EV concepts and production cars that caught my attention. As a Tesla fan, this warms my heart, because the point of the company is to get the industry moving forward on electricity and expanding the possible. Some of those interiors, were giving me scifi vibes, but in the best way possible. I loved the compact more affordable city cars and scooters, because let's face it, most of what is there 99% of the population will not be in the market for and yet why should they be left out of good design and cool tech when they are also closer to the negative affects of pollution in their environment. This gives me hope and excitement for the future and this is only part 1. Great job Johnny!

I am a great fan of Jonny's clarity and his transparency about his opinions. Besides: Full autonomy is something for the test lane. You have old roads with washed out lines, roads on repair etc that would make the full autonomous car become a road obstacles.

I've owned a few Ford vehicles over the years mostly because I've generally had good experiences with them including my current Fusion Hybrid. Funny thing was I was watching this video and wondering, like others, when Ford would come out with an EV car. LOL. Then while reading this comment it dawned on me that we have been leasing a Focus EV for the past year. It's actually a fine little vehicle for our purposes, but I get it, it's really an afterthought in terms of where EV technology is these days.

  • @cuddles6938

    @cuddles6938

They never cared about their Focus EV it was only made to meet California rules. They also have problems getting their cars made without defects. My 2012 Focus has "transmission shudder" which my dealer tried to tell me was "just learning how you drive", which was total b.s. Ford even sent out a memo to dealers to tell them to stop telling customers "it's just learning how you drive" when it was a defect in the transmission design, input shaft seals were crap which allowed fluid where it shouldn't be. Other customers have told me they also had their Clutch Packs replaced in the Dual clutch tranny because they were told "the part was revised". I still have to get it fixed because another Ford dealer when I asked for an appointment to fix that, said they were "so busy during the month of June". I had way better experience with my 2002 Honda Civic and the local Honda dealer ALWAYS took you seriously and fixed your car in a reasonable time. The only issue my Civic had which Honda knew about, was a flawed manufacturing of the ECU which had a crap coating on the circuit board, after 60k or 4 years, the coating would wear off and cause the chips not to have contact with the circuit board. They never did a recall this was before govt started cracking down on these kinds of things so I had to pay $995 USD to get a new one installed, but it solved all my issues. The car was so quiet at 110k miles you forgot you already started it without looking at the dash.

Maybe not so left field, gives Tesla production facilities, supercharger at every sales and service outlets, but it gives Ford a lot more, EV credibility, leap fogging GM, EV Trucks & EV sports cars. Love that there are a lot of variants becoming available. Hope to see availability in The Land Down Under soon. Tried to buy a Fully Electric VW and then a Kia here and the salesmen are not interested. Dealerships just won’t return your call. Once again, stunning presenting and camera work Johnny and Mark. Fantastic editing too. Will keep hitting refresh on KZread for the iPace ep coming up soon hopefully. Well done team.

The pancake in-wheel motor is of course a cool concept. The problem has always been that in everyday driving the motor gets shook to bits as it is in the wheel and receiving every bang from every pothole. From the video, it looks like they have immersed the motor in rubber shock-mount. If this improves the life of the motor by protecting it, I could see it being influential.

I love that Polestar's design too! They just need to ditch the ICE... I'm most excited about the Kona though; it's a real-world-practical EV that's such a "normal" car I think that will appeal to many.

It's always great to see a new video like this, packed with cool stuff. To Jonny, I'm just wondering, when you were exploring the whole place, did you see any new awful diesels? I'm just curious to see if there's any sign that they are actually being phased out and banned, I keep hearing that a lot of manufacturers are doing it but I was very sceptical because of what VW are doing. The Fomm stuff looks great, I hope those come to the UK and I really like the look and idea of the Polestar, wicked name too. I'm all for hydrogen fuel cell technology on its own or mixed with tidy batteries, not the crap ones like they've got now but that Kona, you can't see out of it and there's no steering wheel so if something did go wrong, you'd be stuck in there. "You could even have a fish tank in there... if it was Humane" hahaa, is Jonny vegan? =P The Kite looks awesome, that'll be great fun but how heavy is the jet ski part? if it's heavy, it'll be a bit of pain in the ass to reattach it to the car. The Rimac is so bad ass.

As we get told at York Racecourse when it’s that good the smaller issues become the big issues so for tesler they need to look at the seas maybe subcontract them to someone else. Concept one Hand throttle is like a steam ensign regulator The change battery 2mins means you can have a 2nd charged say leave at work or fiends or even in shop hand over urs and get a fully charged one

agreed with your observations on the polestar 1 (apart from the odd name). on one hand you have a good looking car like that, on the other you have the bmw i3 .....

The whole point of having a car that can do 0-60 in 3.5 sec ist driving it. Fully autonomous cars may have their place, but what they don´t need is sportscar performance. Only messes up the champagne...

That autonomous car hit a pedestrian trying to cross the street outside of a sidewalk in pretty much dark conditions. I've seen other systems where they can detect animals and humans walking along, I'm not sure what system they were using. The Human driver was not paying attention looking down at whatever he was reading.

Simple, autonomy isn't smart enough not to run someone over to be released. Different companies use different systems that are dumber then the next guy. Until it can be proven to recognize a human being without running them over, nobody is going to want one. Who will be at fault, the human or the computer when you hit someone? You could have read between the lines about autonomous cars instead of acting like you had no idea what I was saying, yawn.

Talking about reading between the lines, my whole point was, that even before autonomous cars become normal they start combining that technology with ridiculous performance aspirations. I don´t want an autonomous vehicle, but I do see them becoming the future of cars and on average they will drive safer than humans - not sure about the liability part though.
