This song has always made me emotional. I'm not really even sure why. It was very interesting for me to learn years ago that it was Walt Disney's favorite, and always made him emotional too

I dunno, long hair makes a huge difference. I can't imagine anyone mistaking her to be male if she had long hair. So yes it is that simple. But as you mentioned the chest and clothes aren't very girly so having short hair can confuse in that context.

Apparently, til the day he died, Walt Disney always wanted to hear that song (even to the point where he'd stop a meeting to have Richard Sherman come in and play it)

At the age of seven I stood in line for hours with my father and two brothers to see „Mary Poppins“ ☂️👵🏻👜 in our local theater 🎟🍿when it debuted in our town. 👨‍👦‍👦👬👭👫👭👫👭👫👭👫👭👫👭👫👭👭👭👬👭👭 . The line went around several blocks! Beginning with the first few minutes I was spellbound! 😻 📽 The world had never seen anything like it. When the movie was over we begged my father to let us stay and watch it again! I seem to remember that he was as happy to do that as we were. When I turned eight years old I choose for my birthday gift🎂🎁 an LP album of the songs from the movie. For those too young to know: an „LP“ stood for „long playing“ record which was spun at 33 rpm vs. a typical small record that was played at 45 rpm. I played that beloved album so many times that I almost wore the grooves off the disk. I was so in love with Julie Andrews back then (O.K. I still love her.❤️) that I would kiss her picture on the album cover- they were big in those days! Something is lost of the visceral tangible joy one experienced in the pre-digital age. 😿 “Feed the Birds” can still bring tears to my eyes. 🐦🐧🐤🐦🐧🐤🐦🐧🐤
