Teenage Michael Chang's win against world #1 Ivan Lendl down 2 sets to 0 and then coming back from 2 sets to 1 to defeat world #3 Stefan Edberg in the final will always be one of the most magical runs in sporting history.

Great upload with excellent quality. I think this match took place just couple of months before Federer dethroned Sampras for 8th Wimbeldon title at SW19. At this stage Michael Chang was already in twillight of remarkable career and Federer was just up and coming with massive talent. You have to admire Michael Chang, such a legendary fighter and great player, he tried tenaciously even way off his best form. Credits to both great champions!

At that point in his career Chang had been slowing down maybe half a step from the footspeed he once had from 1989 to `98, but it cost him dearly in ranking (he used to be no. 2 behind Sampras for quite some time) and in winning major titles (his last coming from 1997´s Indian Wells). Federer on the other hand was far away from his best, too, shown in quite a number of strange shot selections - his biggest problem in the early years of his career - not highlighted in this video. From 2002´s Hamburg title on, pieces were falling into place for Federer. - Anyway, thanks for the great upload and the memories. :)

That return was a 1 in a 100 shot. The serve out wide worked so well, but at 40-15 he went for power through the middle. Would´ve definitely been an ace, but it clipped the tape. On second serve he got anxious, it was clearly visible. As Shashank said, he didn´t trust his bh which was so reliable that day. On 40-30 he went to the net which I also didn´t understand since he coped so well with Djokovic from the baseline. If you come to the net, do it with a good approach shot. It´s only tennis, there´re more important things in life, but Wimbledon 2019 will always be the biggest choke imo. Being in that position as a top player, 40-15 up having serve you gotta get the job done.

Nadal and Novak are wall and they exhaust opponents with cross court base shot and force opponent to make an error. Federer constructs a point and hit winners. That will be a sad day when he retires, i really don't enjoy watching Nadal, Novak and other top ten.

And thus Federer ended the era when a decent athlete with a giant racquet had a chance, and he did it with an obsolete tiny racquet and technique reserved for one in a billion. Only age and continually slowing down all surfaces did was his dominance reigned back. If surfaces hadn’t been slowed and racquets not allowed to become giant easier to use trampolines, he would be nearing 60 majors.

His majestic almost mystical game has even more allure without that and adds to why people are so enamored with him. Nadal is really the only beloved tennis player who's grunting doesn't bother fans.

Yan Okimura totally agree. If you add Nalbandian, Roddick, Safin, Davydenko, Agassi, and Hewitt could all easily be considered in the top 10 today. Only Thiem and possibly Medvedev could challenge that roster. As for everyone else today outside the top 4 - no way. What Djok faces today is far less menacing than those early years. Is that his fault? Of course not. But it’s one man’s opinion that today’s game in men’s tennis pales in comparison to years past.

nawoo wait a second, guys like Safin, Nalbandian, Hewitt, Roddick and Davydenko we’re aging?? Lol The one guy that was in your category is Agassi and the dude won 8 slams and his physical regimen has been well documented to the point that it’s the standard for today’s players. Heck, I’d almost take guys like Mardy Fish, Ivan Ljubicic, James Blake, Gaudio, and Coria against these players today. Which by the way, where do we put Nadal in this “weak era?” Gustavo Kuerten? I mean, if it’s so weak then why are 2 of these guys STILL in the top 3-4 players in the world? So, I get that it’s the eras as a whole, but I stand by the early to mid 2000s players over today without a doubt. Side note, in their recent building the best tennis player session, Murray and Djokovic said that guys before the 2000s can’t be compared to theirs. Well, I wonder how they’d feel about playing the likes of Borg, Connors, McEnroe, Courier, et al with today’s racquet technology, diet, and trainers everywhere all over the world ready to make you a monster. I’d actually pay to see how they think they’d handle Pete Sampras and that serve in his prime. Nice try boys.

Then he continued to challenge against Nadal, Djokovic. However Nadal and Djokovic didn’t have to deal with the legends which Federer did. Now to me Federer’a 20 grand slams is much more difficult and valuable than Nadal’s or Djokovic’s…
