General Grievous abusing stupid battle droids

I have no idea why I find B1 battle droid abuse to be funny. May the 4th be with you all.

The droids do believe in a god. We don't know much about them but gonk droids go around spreading the word and "gonk gonk" is apparently all the droids need to hear to believe. It is illegal to translate it.

He didn't even want to be commander of the droid army in the first place lmao, he's a massive droid racist, just like Obi-Wan. The previous commander, Sev'rance Tann, died some months after the battle on Geonosis, and from that point forward; the separatists just kept annoying Grievous, offering him this promotion that he kept rejecting, Dooku had to come all the way down just to tell him "it's not a choice, take the damn job and lead those stupid droids or else we'll take away your lightsabers"

Most likely, implementing a better AI seen in droids like Tactical Droids is expensive, and requires the droids to possess more processing power, more memory, etc. And so, it makes sense to have the battle droids be "stupid" but just smart enough to battle, since that's their job.

@@lucass8119 Close, They actually have closer to a hivemind AI, individually or in small groups theyre intelligent enough to receive and follow orders but get them in larger platoons or in massive armys like in the fight for naboo or the clone wars and they share sensor data, which translates to them being able to shoot better, make better tactical decisions (as a whole not individually) and sort of "covers" the "fear" they "feel". Youre right in that better AI systems are more expensive and require more processing power etc, But sometimes 16cores running at 2GHz is better than 1 core running at 32GHz, Which is exactly the idea behind B1 droids.

  • @lucass8119

@@bq1013 Occasionally we see individual battle droids make decisions on their own, in the form of quirky one-off response, or running away when the rest charge in and get killed. So, think they do have some generalized AI like all droids, where they have their own personality and can make some decisions. However, I don't think they have the ML training or processing power to make complex decisions, hence why we have tactical droids. It seems to me the b1s are more designed to largely blindly follow orders, whereas the tactical ones are designed to be skeptical and perform reasoning, hence why they are more resilient to deception (i.e. less gullible than b1).

Yeah, they're very expensive, the Separatists only had a few hundred of them in their army throughout the clone wars, because the price of just one Droideka was roughly the same amount as the cost of producing 200 B1 Battle droids Their manufacturers were very eccentric too, some days they arbitrarily decided that they didn't want to be paid in credits and they'd ask to be paid in gungan tongues or some other type of rare meat. They probably would've been made obsolete if Wat Tambor had been allowed to produce his B3 Battle Droid prototype, it was basically a B2 super battle droid but slightly bigger, smarter, had more built-in weapons and it was immune to lightsabers and blaster fire, not because of an energy shield, but because of the metallic plating, which was created utilizing a new process and new, previously undiscovered alloys, it would have been faster than a droideka, easier to produce and much cheaper overall. The only reason they didn't go into production and remained in the prototype stage was because Darth Sidious told them not to make any more. He saw them as a genuine threat to the Republic, just a handful of them would have been able to wipe out an entire legion of clones.

Grievous was Sidious’ way of slowly picking off the Jedi Order with the express notion that the Council wouldn’t be stupid enough to send the Chosen One off to face down the Galaxy’s resident Jedi Hunter, they would send supposedly experienced masters instead, so Sidious got his apprentice AND wiped out a serious chunk of the Jedi Order pre-66, a double win. He just didn’t allow for Kenobi even Yoda to a degree that was a strategic blunder. As a by-product, Grievous and Obi-Wan became well acquainted.

Anakin and Grievous were near each other in space, during the Gungan episode where Grievous was defeated, except Grievous couldn't see him properly, and Anakin was unconious, and than finally during the Uatpau Arc, where Anakin was looking ahead and didn't see him, and Grievous was probably not paying attention to him since Obi-Wan was mocking him.
